The purpose of this study was to investigate the minimum effective dose of recombinant canine interferon-γ (rCaIFN-γ) for the treatment of dogs with atopic dermatitis (AD). Thirty-four dogs with AD from 17 animal hospitals in Japan were administered half or one-fifth of the approved rCaIFN-γ dose of 10 000 units/kg, three times a week for 4 weeks, followed by once weekly for an additional 4 weeks. Pruritus, excoriation, erythema and alopecia were evaluated and scored by the investigators on weeks 2, 4, 6, 8 and 12. The efficacy rate (number of excellent cases + number of good cases/total number of cases) at week 8 in the 2000 units/kg group was 36.4% for pruritus, 36.4% for excoriation, 45.5% for erythema and 36.4% for alopecia. In contrast, in the 5000 units/kg group, the efficacy rate was 64.3% for pruritus, 57.1% for excoriation, 78.6% for erythema and 78.6% for alopecia. The efficacy rate of the 5000 units/kg group was high for all signs evaluated and comparable to that of the 10 000 units/kg group reported in a previous study. The results of this study showed that 2000 units/kg of rCaIFN-γ is less effective than 5000 units/kg to treat dogs with AD, and the efficacy of the 5000 units/kg dose is comparable to that of 10 000 units/kg at week 8. 相似文献

To reduce the availability of soil cadmium (Cd) to soybeans (Glycine max (L.) Merr.), we employed a liming by partial mixing (PM) technique in two drained paddy fields on Gray Lowland soils, which had 0.1 mol L–1 hydrochloric acid-extractable Cd concentrations as high as 1.08 and 1.40 mg kg–1. Among the different application methods tested, PM application (PM2) using a width of 20 cm and a depth of 20 cm was found to be most appropriate for reducing the seed Cd concentration and to obtain the optimum yield at Site A. Under PM2, a liming rate of 38% of that for broadcast incorporated into the surface 15 cm layer (Bc) was suitable to reduce the seed Cd concentration at Site A, whereas the lime rate with PM2 was set at 50% of that for Bc (PM2-50) at Site B due to the higher availability of soil Cd. The root system was limited within the range of lime and fertilizer application for PM2 as well as PM2-50; thus, the lime and fertilizer were supplied successfully to the rooting zone. The soil pH value was lower under PM2 at Site A and PM2-50 at Site B compared with Bc, whereas the seed Cd concentration was lower for PM2 and PM2-50. This may be explained by the intensive uptake of calcium and magnesium with PM2 as well as PM2-50. The seed Cd concentration in the cultivar “Ryuhou” at the target pH of 6.5 was approximately 30% lower with PM2-50 than Bc at Site B. In addition, the average seed Cd concentrations in one cultivar and two lines, characterized by the lower Cd uptake with higher retention in roots and higher accumulation in leaves, were approximately 40% lower compared with “Ryuhou.” Thus, the combination of liming with PM2-50 at the target pH of 6.5 and a low-Cd cultivar (or lines) minimized the seed Cd concentration. The highest seed Cd concentration was found in the first year of soybean cultivation, which was considered to be caused by the release of Cd from organic nitrogen compounds during the nitrogen mineralization process. 相似文献

To clarify the socioeconomic factors influencing global paper and paperboard demand, a panel data analysis was conducted covering the period 1961–2014. This study used paper and paperboard demand as the dependent variable, and a country’s economic level, Internet usage rate, plastic packaging demand, and time trend as the explanatory variables. An inverse U-shaped quadratic relationship, such as an environmental Kuznets curve, was found between economic level and paper and paperboard demand, which saturates and begins to decline as economic level increases. The economic level representing the turning point differs significantly with the use, ranging from around 37,000 US$/person for newsprint paper to around 66,000 US$/person for printing and writing paper. For both newsprint paper and printing and writing paper, demand declines owing to the spread of the Internet as the economic level rises, although this reductive effect is greater for printing and writing paper than for newsprint paper. A substitution relationship is not found between wrapping paper and corrugated cardboard on the one hand and plastic packaging on the other hand as the economic level becomes higher. 相似文献

Objective
To determine the effects of brimonidine tartrate ophthalmic solution on sedation, heart rate (HR), respiratory frequency (fR), rectal temperature (RT) and noninvasive mean arterial pressure (MAP) in healthy cats.Study design
Randomized, blinded crossover study, with 1 week washout between treatments.Animals
Six healthy purpose-bred cats.Methods
Brimonidine tartrate ophthalmic solution 0.1% (one or two drops; 58.6 ± 3.3 μg per drop) or a control solution (artificial tear solution) was administered to six healthy cats. Behavioural observations and measurements of HR, fR, RT and MAP were recorded before and at 30, 60, 90, 120, 180, 240, 300 and 360 minutes after topical administration. Behavioural scores were analysed using Friedman’s test for repeated measures to evaluate the time effect in each treatment and treatment effect at each time point. Physiological variables (HR, fR, RT and MAP) were analysed using two-way analysis of variance for repeated measures to evaluate the time and treatment effects. The level of significance was set at p < 0.05.Results
Dose-dependent behavioural and physiological responses were noted. A dose of two drops of brimonidine resulted in sedation in the cats and decreased HR and MAP. Significant sedative effects occurred between 30 and 120 minutes and for physiological responses up to 360 minutes. The most frequent adverse reaction was vomiting, occurring within 40 minutes in all six cats administered two drops and five of the six cats administered one drop of brimonidine.Conclusions and clinical relevance
The results demonstrated that ocular administration of brimonidine 0.1% ophthalmic solution induced sedation in cats and some cardiovascular effects usually associated with α2-adrenoceptor agonists. A Bengal tiger was presented for evaluation of weakness, ataxia and inappetance. Computed
tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a mass extending from the
T7-8 vertebral body to the left rib and compressing the spinal cord. On CT, the bone
destruction and sequestrum were shown. On MRI, the multilobulated mass appeared hypo- to
isointense in T1-weighted and hyperintense in T2-weighted images. The tiger died after
imaging, most likely from renal failure. Chordoma without metastasis was diagnosed on
necropsy. The imaging characteristics were similar to those found in chordoma in humans.

Nineteen free-ranging maned wolves (Chrysocyon brachyurus) were captured in central Brazil from April through November 2003. Oral cavity examination revealed 34 teeth with crown trauma in twelve animals. Canine teeth were most commonly affected (44.2%), followed by premolar (29.4%) and incisor teeth (26.5%). Trauma to maxillary teeth (67.7%) was more frequent compared with mandibular teeth (32.3 %). The majority of dental fractures were located at the cuspid portion of the crown (56.0%). Slab fractures were the most frequent type (37.0%), followed by horizontal (24.0%), oblique (24.0%) and longitudinal fractures (15.0%). Complicated crown fracture (pulp exposure) was diagnosed in 13 (38.2%) of these teeth while pulpitis noted by tooth discoloration was diagnosed in 8 (23.5%) teeth. 相似文献

Black saxaul (Haloxylon aphyllum) is a native tree species tolerant of aridity and salinity. It is planted to alleviate environmental damage due to the formation of the Aralkum desert and improve vegetation of the Aral Sea region. To investigate the environmental factors that determine seedling mortality and growth after rooting, we focused on soil properties and topographic factors in a study plot. We found that a hard clay layer that was low in hydraulic conductivity underlay accumulated sandy sediments at different depths. The soil in low seedling mortality areas was consistently sandy and low in salinity from the surface to a depth of 100 cm. In areas of high seedling mortality (75–100%), soils with a high content of silt and clay, with high salinity were detected within 100 cm depths. This suggests that accumulated sand sediment over a depth of 100 cm is required for root development. Plant height was positively correlated with depth of the hard clay layer. Significant relationships with plant height were also detected in chemical and physical properties at 80–100 cm such as electric conductivity (ECe), sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), and sand ratio. However, these properties had no significant relationship at 0–20 cm or with the relative elevation of the plot, suggesting that the subsequent growth of seedlings depends more on the sub-soil environment than on-surface conditions. The assessment of sub-soil condition is recommended to make site selection for reforestation much more reliable. 相似文献

Turkey males subjected to a low intensity step-down (LISD) lighting programme showed significantly heavier body weights after 20 weeks of age and significantly better feed conversions after 14 weeks of age compared with males reared in a high intensity step-up lighting (HISU) programme. Although both nonchilled and chilled carcase weights were higher, the dressing percentages were lower for males of the LISD lighting regimen. Males of the HISU lighting programme had significantly fewer leg abnormalities, shorter tarso-metatarsi, lighter drumstick weights, and lighter tibia weights. Males on the HISU lighting programme from 15 to 19 weeks of age had larger testes; however, after 20 weeks of age they were larger in males on the LISD lighting regimen. Cleaning and disinfecting the drinking troughs daily rather than weekly had no effect on any production variable measured. 相似文献

A female golden retriever was referred to assess a history of a palpable abdominal mass. A serum chemistry analysis revealed elevated concentrations of blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, calcium, and parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTH-rP). Exploratory laparotomy revealed an ovoid mass within the right ovary. This mass was removed surgically by performing an ovariohysterectomy. The right ovarian mass was diagnosed as a serous papillary adenocarcinoma. Following surgery, the dog recovered, and the serum calcium and PTH-rP concentrations decreased. Therefore, concentrations of PTH-rP and calcium might be associated with serous papillary adenocarcinomas. Serial evaluation of the serum PTH-rP and calcium was useful for evaluating the prognosis. 相似文献
