Sodium salicylate was administered to cattle and goats IV and PO according to a crossover design. Total urinary excretion of SA and its metabolites was measured for 3 days after dosing. Salicyluric acid (SUA) was the only metabolite detected in urine of either species. Recovery of sodium salicylate and SUA in goats amounted to 67.9 and 34.6% of the dose, respectively, after IV administration. After oral dosing, total recoveries were 30.2% (sodium salicylate) and 71.7% (SUA) of dose. By comparison, cattle excreted significantly (P less than 0.05) less sodium salicylate (54.0%) and more SUA (49.9%) after IV dosing. The same pattern was observed after oral administration, wherein cattle excreted less than 12% as sodium salicylate and more than 99% as SUA. In both species, almost 90% of the drug excreted as sodium salicylate was found in urine within the first 12 hours after an IV dose and within 24 hours after oral dosing. The excretion of SUA was somewhat slower in both species, especially after oral administration. The data suggested that there were only quantitative differences in the metabolism and elimination of sodium salicylate between the 2 species, with cattle excreting a higher proportion of the drug as the glycine conjugate SUA.  相似文献

The DNA isolated from cow-hamster hybrid somatic cells segregating bovine chromosomes was analyzed by Southern blotting and hybridization with a heterologous [32P]-labeled porcine cDNA probe encoding insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I). Thirteen of 25 cow-hamster hybrid cell lines exhibited the bovine-specific IGF-I fragment. Analysis for the retention or loss of bovine IGF-I with markers previously screened against the same panel of hybrid cells revealed a 100% concordance with lactate dehydrogenase B of bovine syntenic group U3 located on bovine chromosome 5. Restriction fragment length analyses of genomic DNA from animals representing five breeds (Angus, Polled Hereford, Simmental, Gelbvieh, and Belgian Blue) and from seven half-sib Angus calves indicated that polymorphisms for the genomic composition of the bovine IGF-I gene may exist in cattle populations.  相似文献

Abstract— Plasma concentrations of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) and insulin-like growth factor binding proteins (IGFBPs) were compared between market sized sunshine and palmetto bass. Differences between male and female fish were examined and both hybrids were sampled before and after a low-water confinement stress. There was no difference in body weight between the hybrid types, however, females were significantly heavier than males in both hybrids. Plasma IGF-I concentrations were significantly higher in pre-stressed palmetto bass when compared with sunshine bass, and male palmetto bass had significantly higher IGF-I concentrations than females. Two hours after a 15-min low-water stress, a significant decrease in palmetto bass IGF-I occurred, but there was no change in sunshine bass IGF-I concentrations. Levels of a 33-kDa IGFBP were similar in pre-stressed palmetto bass when compared with sunshine bass; however, no differences due to gender were evident for either hybrid. Two hours after a 15-min low-water exposure, there was no change in the levels of a 33-kDa IGFBP in palmetto or sunshine bass. A more complete understanding of IGF-I, IGFBPs, and IGF-I receptors may be necessary to explain the role of IGF-I in regulating fish growth.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine if growth hormone (GH) concentration in bovine seminal plasma would be proportional to but less variable than blood plasma GH. The relationship between GH in blood and seminal plasma was also examined critically. Blood samples were collected at 15-min intervals for 5.75 h, while semen was collected at 30-min intervals over the same time period. Average seminal plasma GH concentrations were 3.2 times higher (P less than .05) than blood plasma GH concentrations (40.4 +/- 15.8 ng/ml vs 12.6 +/- 1.2 ng/ml, respectively). The within animal correlation between blood and seminal plasma was consistently low and nonsignificant (P greater than .05). Overall blood plasma GH and seminal plasma GH concentrations were weakly correlated (r = .418; P greater than .05) among bulls. A predictable relationship between blood and seminal plasma GH concentration does not exist under the conditions of this study.  相似文献

Scheduled breeding of gilts after estrous synchronization with altrenogest   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Fertility of 104 gilts artificially inseminated (AI) at a predetermined time (scheduled AI) after estrous synchronization with altrenogest (15 mg X gilt-1 X d-1 for 18 d) was compared with that of 103 gilts checked for estrus (estrus checked) and inseminated after altrenogest. Scheduled-AI gilts were inseminated once on d 5, 6 and 7 after the last altrenogest feeding (d 0). Estrus-checked gilts were exposed to a boar twice daily at 0830 and 1630 h and inseminated after the second and third estrous detection period following first detected estrus. Percentage of gilts assigned to treatment that farrowed (72.8 vs 67.3%), total pigs farrowed (11 +/- .4 vs 11.3 +/- .4) and pigs born alive (10.1 +/- .4 vs 10.5 +/- .4) were similar for estrus-checked and scheduled-AI gilts, respectively. We conclude that scheduled AI can be used with estrous synchronization for gilts and may have advantages in breeding herd management and the use of AI in swine.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether administration of inactivated virus or modified-live virus (MLV) vaccines to feral cats at the time of neutering induces protective serum antiviral antibody titers. DESIGN: Prospective study. ANIMALS: 61 feral cats included in a trap-neuter-return program in Florida. PROCEDURES: Each cat received vaccines against feline panleukopenia virus (FPV), feline herpes virus (FHV), feline calicivirus (FCV), FeLV, and rabies virus (RV). Immediately on completion of surgery, vaccines that contained inactivated RV and FeLV antigens and either MLV or inactivated FPV, FHV, and FCV antigens were administered. Titers of antiviral antibodies (except those against FeLV) were assessed in serum samples obtained immediately prior to surgery and approximately 10 weeks later. RESULTS: Prior to vaccination, some of the cats had protective serum antibody titers against FPV (33%), FHV (21%), FCV (64%), and RV (3%). Following vaccination, the overall proportion of cats with protective serum antiviral antibody titers increased (FPV [90%], FHV [56%], FCV [93%], and RV [98%]). With the exception of the FHV vaccine, there were no differences in the proportions of cats protected with inactivated virus versus MLV vaccines. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Results suggest that exposure to FPV, FHV, and FCV is common among feral cats and that a high proportion of cats are susceptible to RV infection. Feral cats appeared to have an excellent immune response following vaccination at the time of neutering. Incorporation of vaccination into trap-neuter-return programs is likely to protect the health of individual cats and possibly reduce the disease burden in the community.  相似文献
