In this study, it was verified whether silicon (Si) affected plant hydraulic resistance, which was one of the significant factors affecting water uptake. Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench. was grown hydroponically under varying silicon levels and exposed to osmotic stresses. Under osmotic stress, reduction in growth, photosynthesis, and transpiration were alleviated as supplied silicon levels increased. These alleviative effects were ascribed to enhancement of water uptake. Although shoot/root ratio was not affected by silicon, estimated apparent hydraulic resistance was lower in silicon-supplied sorghum than silicon-deficient one under osmotic stress. Simultaneous measurement of transpiration and water uptake rates indicated that under osmotic stress silicon-deficient sorghums showed unbalanced water relation that transpiration rate exceeded water uptake rate, while they were balanced in silicon-supplied sorghums. The results indicated that silicon improved hydraulic resistance, allowing sorghum to avoid from decrease in water uptake rate that happens to silicon-deficient sorghum under water stress.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the effects of dietary soybean curd residue (SCR) and soy sauce cake (SSC) on the growth performance, carcass traits and physiochemical and intramuscular fatty acid (FA) characteristics in Japanese Black steers. Ten steers (29.7 ± 0.3 months old, 856.6 ± 24.4 kg body weight) were assigned to either treatment C, fed a conventional concentrate or T, fed the test diet including dried SCR and SSC for 3 months. In growth performance, dry matter (DM) intake and average daily gain, and carcass traits did not differ significantly between the treatments. Color of beef was affected by the dietary treatments and meat samples from T showed higher a* value and chroma than those in C. On FA composition, there was no significant difference between the treatments in neutral lipids, whereas in polar lipids, meat samples from T had higher C16:1 (P < 0.05) and tended to have higher C16:0 (P = 0.05) and C18:1 (P = 0.08), but lower C17:0 (P = 0.098), C18:2 (P = 0.06) and C20:4 (P = 0.07) than those from C. The study suggested that SCR and SSC could be used as a substitute for conventional concentrate and would influence meat color and intramuscular FA composition of polar lipids.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this study, the functional components of 19 microalgae and 6 bivalve species were investigated in the context of the application in bivalve feeding and human health food. Principal component analysis was performed to detect any association between the functional components and individual microalgal species or taxonomic group. The proportions of the functional components differed depending on the taxonomic group or species of microalga. The genera Cheatoceros, Thalassiosira, and Isochrysis contained high concentrations of fucosterol and fucoxanthin, which are present in large amounts in brown algae. Diatoms, haptophytes, and eustigmatophytes, which are used as feed for bivalves, were rich in fucosterol and eicosapentenoic acid (EPA); further, haptophytes were rich in docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). In addition, the microalgae associated with red tide, i.e., the raphidophytes, were found to be rich in fucoxanthin, β-sitosterol, and EPA, whereas dinoflagellates were rich in DHA. Seven bivalve species also contained high concentrations of fucosterol, EPA, and DHA, as did microalgae, which were used to feed by bivalves. These results are useful in selecting microalgae effectively as feed of the bivalves.  相似文献

This study examines the following in the Japanese mitten crab: (1) the structure of the exoskeleton with special reference to its calcification; (2) the progression of post-molt cuticle formation and calcification. In the crab, the structure and calcification state of the exoskeleton at the molt and during the inter-molt stage were similar to those of other crustaceans. During the inter-molt, the exoskeleton consisted of four cuticle layers; the outermost epicuticle, the exocuticle, the endocuticle and the innermost membrane layer. Intense calcification was observed in the exo- and endocuticle. At the molt, the synthesis of the epi- and exocuticle was already complete, and the addition of the endocuticle began after the molt. Calcification of the exocuticle initiated soon after the molt, but there was a delay between endocuticle matrix synthesis and calcification. Histology showed that the process of calcification was similar to that in other crustaceans. However, calcium concentrations within the exoskeleton continued to increase and never reached the levels of the inter-molt stage at the end of the experiment. This suggests that the Japanese mitten crab is relatively slow to calcify compared to other crustaceans.  相似文献

In this study, an inexpensive camera-observation system called the Crop Phenology Recording System (CPRS), which consists of a standard digital color camera (RGB cam) and a modified near-infrared (NIR) digital camera (NIR cam), was applied to estimate green leaf area index (LAI), total LAI, green leaf biomass and total dry biomass of stalks and leaves of maize. The CPRS was installed for the 2009 growing season over a rainfed maize field at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Agricultural Research and Development Center near Mead, NE, USA. The vegetation indices called Visible Atmospherically Resistant Index (VARI) and two green–red–blue (2g–r–b) were calculated from day-time RGB images taken by the standard commercially-available camera. The other vegetation index called Night-time Relative Brightness Index in NIR (NRBINIR) was calculated from night-time flash NIR images taken by the modified digital camera on which a NIR band-pass filter was attached. Sampling inspections were conducted to measure bio-physical parameters of maize in the same experimental field. The vegetation indices were compared with the biophysical parameters for a whole growing season. The VARI was found to accurately estimate green LAI (R2 = 0.99) and green leaf biomass (R2 = 0.98), as well as track seasonal changes in maize green vegetation fraction. The 2g–r–b was able to accurately estimate total LAI (R2 = 0.97). The NRBINIR showed the highest accuracy in estimation of the total dry biomass weight of the stalks and leaves (R2 = 0.99). The results show that the camera-observation system has potential for the remote assessment of maize biophysical parameters at low cost.  相似文献

AgNO3处理可以调节“OHB61-5”苦瓜材料的性别表现。AgNO3对第1雌花节位、雌花数量、雌雄花的比率、两性花数量都有较大影响,随着质量浓度的增高(50~200mg/L),第1雌花发生的节位上升(6.86~16.4个),两性花数量逐渐增多(5.33~15.13个),雌花数量减少(14.3~4.6个),雌雄花比率降低,与对照和低质量浓度10mg/L处理间达极显著水平差异;低质量浓度10mg/l。处理对性别分化的诱导效应与对照差异不显著。外源GA,处理问对“OHB61—5”性别分化的影响差异不显著,GA3(25mg/L)处理与对照问差异达显著水平。温度处理上,2种不同的材料在3性状(雄花数、雌花数、无花节位数)的效应均达极显著差异,但温度水平在3性状的效应对于OHB41-2达到极显著水平差异,而对于OHB61-5没有达到显著差异。  相似文献

The major outer membrane protein (MOMP) of Haemophilus somnus shows antigenic and molecular mass diversity that forms the basis of a preliminary grouping system for H. somnus strains. In this study, the gene encoding MOMP of H. somnus strain 8025 was cloned in three overlapping fragments by PCR techniques, and then sequenced. The gene consists of a 1164-bp open reading frame encoding a deduced 380-amino acid protein with a 19-amino acid signal sequence, giving a mature protein with a calculated molecular mass of 39,913 Da. Significant homology was found between MOMP and porin protein sequences of bacteria in Pasteurellaceae species. When expressed in Escherichia coli, the protein from the MOMP gene directed by the T7 promoter was identical in size (approximately 40 kDa) to native MOMP and reacted with MOMP-specific antibodies. Comparisons of the MOMP gene sequences from six unrelated strains of H. somnus to that of strain 8025 revealed that the genes of three MOMP type 1 strains were highly conserved with that of strain 8025 in length and sequence. However, two MOMP type 3c strains and one MOMP type 3a strain differed markedly from the MOMP of strain 8025 in their 3'-terminal halves. Their deduced MOMP amino acid sequences differed in sequence (3c, 80.5 and 82.7% identity; 3a, 62.4% identity) and in length (3c, 384 and 376; 3a, 316), indicating that the molecular differences are the basis of antigenicity and molecular mass differences of H. somnus MOMP. In the predicted MOMP secondary structure, the variable sequences primarily mapped to putative surface-exposed loops, and a variable and surface-exposed epitope of MOMP-specific antibody was identified in the seventh-largest loop. These findings are useful for understanding the structural and immunological characteristics of H. somnus.  相似文献
