A 7-year-old female boxer dog died suddenly without any clinical signs. It was suspected that the dog had arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) due to ventricular premature complexes and ventricular tachycardia at 3 years of age. The final diagnosis of ARVC was confirmed by histological characteristics, such as loss of cardiocytes and fibrofatty replacement, occurring in the right and left ventricular walls. In the cardiocytes, non-lipid vacuoles were observed. Cardiac fibrosis and intimal thickening of the small arteries occurred without fatty replacement in the inner muscle layer including the papillary muscles of the left ventricular wall. This paper describes the pathomorphological details of an ARVC case with coincidental cardiac fibrosis in the inner muscle layer of the left ventricular wall.  相似文献

"Fishy aftertaste" is sometimes perceived in wine consumed with seafood. Iron in wine has been reported to be a key compound that produces fishy aftertaste. However, cost-effective methods to remove iron from wine have not been developed. Here, we describe a cost-effective and safe iron adsorbent consisting of alcohol-treated yeast (ATY) cells based on the observation that nonviable cells adsorbed iron after completion of fermentation. Treatment of cells with more than 40% (v/v) ethanol killed them without compromising their ability to adsorb iron. Drying the ATY cells did not reduce iron adsorption. Use of ATY cells together with phytic acid had a synergistic effect on iron removal. We term this means of removing iron the "ATY-PA" method. Sensory analysis indicated that fishy aftertaste in wine-seafood pairings was not perceived if the wine had been pretreated with both ATY cells and phytic acid.  相似文献

Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) arrays are widely used for genetic and genomic analyses in cattle breeding; thus, data derived from SNP arrays have accumulated on a large scale nationwide. Commercial SNP arrays contain a considerable number of unassigned SNPs on the chromosome/position on the genome; these SNPs are excluded in subsequent analyses. Notably, the position‐unassigned SNPs, or “buried SNPs” include some of the markers associated with genetic disease. In this study, we identified the position of buried SNPs using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool against the surrounding sequences and characterized the relationship between SNPs and genetic diseases in Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals based on the genomic position. We determined the position of 285 buried SNPs on the genome and surveyed the genotype and allele frequencies of these SNPs in 5,955 individual Japanese Black cattle. Eleven SNPs associated with genetic disease, which contained five buried SNPs, were found in the population with the risk allele frequency ranging from 0.00008396 to 0.46. These results indicate that buried SNPs in the bovine SNP array can be utilized to identify associations with genetic disorders from large scale accumulated SNP genotype data in Japanese Black cattle.  相似文献

To evaluate the clinical usefulness of tissue and serum gelatinase activity as a prognostic marker of canine tumors, tissue samples from 60 tumors and corresponding serum samples from the same animals were collected at the time of biopsy and surgery. On the basis of histopathology and clinical aggressiveness of metastasis and recurrence (MR), the cases were divided into 6 categories: non-inflammatory (Inf(-)) and inflammatory (Inf(+)) benign, and the Inf(-) MR(-), Inf(-) MR(+), Inf(+) MR(-), and Inf(+) MR(+) malignant. Gelatinase activity was determined semi-quantitatively using gelatin zymogram with a gelatinase standard from cultured canine peripheral blood mononuclear cells stimulated with lipopolysaccharide. No significant difference in gelatinase activities in tissue extracts was evident between the benign and malignant tumors. Inf(+) benign tumors, as well as Inf(-) MR(+), Inf(+) MR(-) and Inf(+) MR(+) malignant tumors, showed significantly higher tissue gelatinase activity than Inf(-) benign. The tissue activity in Inf(-) MR(-) malignant was significantly lower than in Inf(+) MR(-) and Inf(+) MR(+) malignant. The serum activity was significantly higher in the malignant cases than in the control and the benign. Inf(-) MR(+), Inf(+) MR(-) and Inf(+) MR(+) malignant tumors induced significantly higher gelatinase activity in serum than Inf(-) benign tumors. Gelatinase activity in serum was positively correlated with that in tumor extracts. Increased gelatinase in tumor tissue and serum may be correlated with inflammation as well as tumor aggressiveness, and thus should be used in combination with histopathology for predicting tumor metastasis or recurrence.  相似文献

Spores and infection structures such as germ tubes and appressoria of Magnaporthe oryzae, the fungus causing blast disease of wheat, produced an extracellular matrix (ECM) on the surfaces of host leaves during fungal differentiation. The chemical components and function of the ECM were studied to understand the pathological roles using two immunological techniques and ECM-digesting enzymes. The ECM was characterized by fibrous and amorphous materials, located in the spaces between fungal cell walls and plant cuticles. Immunohistochemical and immunoelectron microscopy suggested that ECM includes components positively reacted with antibodies of four animal cell adhesion factors (collagen VI, vitronectin, fibronectin and laminin) and an animal integrin α3. ECM, incubated on a cellulose membrane, was rapidly digested by matrix metalloproteinases (collagenase and gelatinase B), resulting in the detachment of most infection structures from membrane surfaces. Both ultrastructural observation and immunological responses showed that more ECM was located at the appressoria than at the spores and germ tubes. This result suggested that appressoria needed a powerful adhesion force for aggressive action of penetration pegs into plant cuticles. An erratum to this article can be found at  相似文献

In humans, iron (Fe) and zinc (Zn) deficiencies result in major worldwide health problems. Transgenic technologies to produce Fe- and Zn-biofortified rice varieties offer a promising potential solution. Nicotianamine, the precursor of phytosiderophores, chelates Fe2+ and Zn2+ and plays an important role in transporting these metals to both vegetative and reproductive organs within the plant. Our objective was to increase Fe and Zn contents in rice grains by overexpressing the barley nicotianamine synthase gene HvNAS1. HvNAS1-overexpressing transgenic rice showed increased HvNAS1 expression and subsequent increases in endogenous nicotianamine and phytosiderophore content in shoots, roots, and seeds. Fe and Zn concentrations in polished T1 seeds from transgenic plants increased more than three and twofold, respectively; Fe and Zn concentrations also increased in both polished and brown T2 seeds. These results suggest that the overproduction of nicotianamine enhances the translocation of Fe and Zn into rice grains.  相似文献

Veterinary staff carrying methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) can be a source of MRSA infection in animals. To identify risk factors of MRSA carriage among veterinary staff, MRSA carriage and epidemiological information (sex, career, contact with MRSA-identified animal patients and others) were analyzed from 96 veterinarians and 70 veterinary technicians working at 71 private veterinary clinics in Japan. Univariate analysis determined sex (percentage of MRSA carriage, male (29.2%) vs. female (10%); P=0.002) and career (veterinarians (22.9%) vs. veterinary technicians (10%); P=0.030) as risk factors. Multivariable analysis revealed that sex was independently associated with MRSA carriage (adjusted odds ratio, 3.717; 95% confidence interval, 1.555–8.889; P=0.003). Therefore, male veterinary staff had a higher risk of MRSA carriage than female staff.  相似文献

We investigated for dynamics of Campylobacter clones on 2 different managerial broiler farms. Campylobacter isolates were differentiated by resistance typing and molecular typing methods. On farm I, the same C. jejuni clones resistant to fluoroquinolone and oxytetracycline were isolated after one and half years again and another susceptible clone was invaded. The susceptible clone was isolated again after half year. Broiler flocks on the farm may be repeatedly infected with a few C. jejuni clones. On farm II, new clones including antimicrobial resistant one, were often invaded. The change of predominant C. jejuni clone in each flock on both the farms was observed, in the absence of antimicrobial selective pressure.  相似文献

Coffee contains antioxidants like chlorogenic acid and its isomers. In this report, effects of coffee on the nitrite-induced N2O3 formation were studied using whole saliva and bacterial fraction prepared from the saliva. The formation of N2O3 was measured by fluorescence increase due to the transformation of 4,5-diaminofluorescein to triazolfluorescein. Coffee inhibited the nitrite-induced fluorescence increase, and 50% inhibition was observed at several microg of coffee/mL in bacterial fraction of saliva as well as whole saliva. During the inhibition of the fluorescence increase, concentration of chlorogenic acid and its isomers decreased. It is discussed that the reduction of NO2 by chlorogenic acid and its isomers contributed to the coffee-dependent inhibition of the fluorescence increase as N2O3 is formed from NO and NO2. When coffee was added to whole saliva, chlorogenic acid and its isomers bound to cells in the saliva. The rate of the fluorescence increase in bacterial fraction, which was prepared at defined periods after the ingestion of coffee, was increased to the rate before the ingestion of coffee with a half-time of about 1 h. This result suggests that chlorogenic acid and its isomers remained in the oral cavity for a few hours after ingestion of coffee. The significance of coffee drinking and rinsing of the mouth with coffee for the health of the oral cavity is proposed.  相似文献

Plant breeding programs in local regions may generate genetic variations that are desirable to local populations and shape adaptability during the establishment of local populations. To elucidate genetic bases for this process, we proposed a new approach for identifying the genetic bases for the traits improved during rice breeding programs; association mapping focusing on a local population. In the present study, we performed association mapping focusing on a local rice population, consisting of 63 varieties, in Hokkaido, the northernmost region of Japan and one of the northern limits of rice cultivation worldwide. Six and seventeen QTLs were identified for heading date and low temperature germinability, respectively. Of these, 13 were novel QTLs in this population and 10 corresponded to the QTLs previously reported based on QTL mapping. The identification of QTLs for traits in local populations including elite varieties may lead to a better understanding of the genetic bases of elite traits. This is of direct relevance for plant breeding programs in local regions.  相似文献
