Stereotactic radiotherapy is a highly conformal treatment option for intracranial and extracranial malignancies. Stereotactic radiotherapy utilizes specialized equipment specifically designed to avoid normal tissue while delivering ablative treatments with submillimeter precision and accuracy. Linear accelerator based stereotactic radiotherapy incorporates on‐board image guidance utilizing cone beam computed tomography (CT). Many institutions lack the ability to provide image guidance with cone beam CT but delivery of highly conformal treatments with submillimeter precision and accuracy is still feasible. The purpose of this retrospective, pilot study was to describe clinical outcomes for a group of dogs with neurological disease that were treated with an stereotactic radiotherapy technique utilizing intensity modulated radiation therapy, megavoltage computed portal radiography, a bite plate, thermoplastic mold, and mask based positioning system. Twelve dogs with neurological clinical signs were included. The diagnosis of intracranial tumor was made based on advanced imaging (12/12) and confirmed via histopathology (3/12). Twelve courses of stereotactic radiotherapy, utilizing three fractions of 8.0 Gy, were delivered on alternating days. Self‐resolving neurological deterioration was observed in two patients during stereotactic radiotherapy. Neurological progression free interval and median survival time were 273 days (range: 16–692 days) and 361 days (range: 25–862 days). Stereotactic radiotherapy using computed portal radiography may be a safe treatment option for dogs with intracranial tumors.  相似文献

Strain (sub-clonal, line, or intraclonal) selection for certain characteristics within some potato varieties has been very successful e.g. improved skin type (Russet Burbank from Burbank), improved skin color (Red LaSoda from LaSoda; Red Norland and Dark Red Norland from Norland), and improved vine vigor and yield (Norgold Russet M from Norgold Russet). In 1989, strain selection with Russet Norkotah was initiated by the Texas Potato Variety Development Program. Some 192 giant hill and/or tall type plants were selected from seedsmen and/or commercial Russet Norkotah fields in Colorado, while 183 were selected from commercial fields in Texas. Replicated yield trials with the final 13 of the original strain selections and Russet Norkotah were conducted in 1992, 1993, and 1994 in both Colorado and Texas. A mixed model analysis of variance was performed followed by disjoint cluster analysis in order to group strains into high, medium, and low yielding classes or clusters. Canonical discriminant analysis was performed to confirm the three clusters and to determine the extent to which various yield attributes are related and can be used to separate the three clusters. Several strains including TXNS (Texas Norkotah Strain) 112, TXNS 134, and TXNS 278 were identified as superior in Colorado, while TXNS 223, TXNS 249, and TXNS 296 were similarly identified for Texas growing conditions. These strains usually outyielded Russet Norkotah by 20–30%.  相似文献

Fractures of the central tarsal bone are a rarely recognized cause of acute severe hind limb lameness in nonracehorses. Diagnosis of these fractures can be challenging and little is known about their configuration or outcome. The objectives of this retrospective case series study were to describe the clinical features, imaging findings, and outcomes of fractures of the central tarsal bone in a sample of nonracehorses. Medical records from 2001 to 2014 were searched for cases of central tarsal bone fractures in nonracehorses. All available imaging findings including radiography, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and/or nuclear scintigraphy were reviewed. History, clinical presentation, and outcome were collected from the records. Four horses met the inclusion criteria. All had a similar configuration as a simple nondisplaced slab fracture in a dorsomedial to plantarolateral orientation. Initial radiographs failed to reveal the fracture in three of four cases. When additional plantarolateral‐dorsomedial oblique radiographic views were obtained, the fracture could be identified in all cases. Fractures of the central tarsal bone seemed to occur in a consistent dorsomedial to plantarolateral orientation in this sample of nonracehorses, which is different from the configuration previously reported in racehorses. While CT can be used for detection and assessment of these fractures, authors propose that radiography can also identify these fractures with the appropriate view. Authors recommend the use of several plantarolateral to dorsomedial radiographic projections at varying degrees of obliquity for horses with a suspected central tarsal bone fracture.  相似文献

A 6‐year‐old castrated Goldendoodle dog was presented for left‐sided lameness of 3 weeks’ duration. Focal, moderate to marked increased 99mTc‐methylene diphosphonate (99mTc‐MDP) uptake was detected in the right caudal lung lobe, caudal angle of the left scapula, and the distal aspect of the left femur with whole body bone phase scintigraphy. Radiographs identified a well‐circumscribed, oval‐shaped soft tissue opaque mass in the right caudal lung lobe; a suspect oval‐shaped osteolytic lesion in the proximal third of the left scapula; and an osteolytic lesion in the distal aspect of the left femur. Metastatic pilomatricoma was confirmed histologically at all three sites.  相似文献

We investigated the effects of an ambient dose of ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation on chamber-grown Pseudotsuga menziesii var. glauca (Beissn.) Franco (Douglas-fir) seedlings, to determine if the presence of UV-B radiation in the growth light regime induces tolerance to environmental stresses such as high light and drought. Douglas-fir seedlings were grown without UV-B radiation or with 6 kJ m-2 day-1 of biologically effective UV-B, which is ambient for the intermountain regions of Idaho. Non-stressed seedlings grown with UV-B radiation had 35% lower seedling dry mass, 36% higher concentrations of UV-B absorbing compounds per unit leaf area, 30% lower stomatal frequencies, 25% lower light-saturated photochemical efficiencies of Photosystem II and 45% lower light-saturated stomatal conductance than non-stressed seedlings grown without UV-B radiation. After 4 days of high-light stress, seedlings grown with UV-B radiation had 32% higher light-saturated carbon assimilation rates (A(CO2)) than seedlings grown without UV-B radiation. After water was withheld from the seedlings for up to 15 days, seedlings grown with UV-B radiation had 50% higher A(CO2) and 40% higher seedling water potentials than seedlings grown without UV-B radiation. The results support the hypothesis that UV-B radiation can act as an environmental signal to induce tolerance to high-light and drought stress in Douglas-fir seedlings. Possible mechanisms for the enhanced stress tolerance are discussed.  相似文献

In mammals, X-inactivation establishes X-chromosome dosage parity between males and females. How X-chromosome counting regulates this process remains elusive, because neither the hypothesized inactivation "blocking factor" nor the required cis-elements have been defined. Here, a mouse knockout and transgenic analysis identified DNA sequences within the noncoding Tsix and Xite genes as numerators. Homozygous deficiency of Tsix resulted in "chaotic choice" and a variable number of inactive X's, whereas overdosage of Tsix/Xite inhibited X-inactivation. Thus, counting was affected by specific Tsix/Xite mutations, suggesting that counting is genetically separable from but molecularly coupled to choice. The mutations affect XX and XY cells differently, demonstrating that counting and choice are regulated not by one "blocking factor," but by both a "blocking" and a "competence" factor.  相似文献

Intraclonal selection has been used to develop improved versions of existing popular potato cultivars. The approach is usually undertaken to overcome trait deficiencies that limit production/acceptance of the cultivar. Because of close genetic relationships, discriminating between strains and the original cultivar is more difficult than discriminating between conventionally derived hybrid cultivars. The objective of this investigation was to determine the genetic relationship between several Russet Norkotah intraclonal selections (strains) using statistical analysis. Russet Norkotah and seven Russet Norkotah strains (TXNS102, TXNS112, TXNS223, TXNS278, TXNS296, CORN3 and CORN8) were grown in 2000 and 2001 in New Brunswick, Canada, and several plant and tuber traits were measured. Hierarchical cluster analysis and canonical discriminant analysis demonstrated that the Russet Norkotah strains differ in a significant manner from the original cultivar and are therefore distinct and unique cultivars.  相似文献
