The herbicide benzoylprop-ethyl (SUFFIX,a ethyl (±)-2-(N-benzoyl-3,4-dichloro-anilino) propionate) is applied post-emergence for the control of wild oats (Avena spp.) in wheat. During application some falls onto the soil and in the present work the possible uptake of residues from the soil, particularly by rotation crops has been studied using radioisotope techniques under indoor and outdoor conditions. Soil application at 1 kg/ha gave lower residues in wheat in the year of application than were found in previous studies using overall foliar-soil application. In the radiochemical experiments soil residues did persist into the following year, but residues in potatoes and wheat grown in these soils, although generally below the limit of determination (0.005 mg/kg), were occasionally just above this level (0.006 mg/kg). On the results of the present work, residues in rotational crops from soils treated in the previous year are unlikely to reach the limits of normal analytical determination. 相似文献

The degradation of [14C] benzoyl prop ethyl (SUFFIX,a ethyl N-benzoyl-N-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-2-aminopropionate) in four soils has been studied under laboratory conditions. The major degradation product of benzoylprop ethyl at up to 4 months after treatment was its corresponding carboxylic acid (II). On further storage this compound became firmly bound to soil before it underwent a slow debenzoylation process which led to the formation of a number of products including N-3,4-dichlorophenylalanine (IV), benzoic acid, 3,4-dichloroaniline (DCA), which was mainly present complexed with humic acids, and other polar products. Although these polar products were not identified, they were probably degradation products of DCA, since they were also formed when DCA was added to soil. No 3,3′,4,4′-tetrachloroazobenzene (TCAB) was detected in any of the soils at limits of detectability ranging from 0.01-0.001 parts/million. Since N-3,4-dichlorophenylalanine (IV) and 3,4-dichloroaniline were transient degradation products of benzoylprop ethyl, the metabolism in soil of radiolabelled samples of these compounds was also studied. In these laboratory experiments the persistence of the herbicide increased as the organic matter content of the soil increased and the time for depletion of half of the applied benzoylprop ethyl varied from 1 week in sandy loam and clay loam soils to 12 weeks in a peat soil. 相似文献

Epidemiological studies assessing the health benefits of drinking black tea are equivocal. Such disparity may reflect an inability of semiquantitative assessment to consider how infusion time and addition of milk affect the bioavailability of potentially beneficial antioxidant polyphenols. Six brands of tea demonstrated similar increases in antioxidant capacity and total phenolic and catechin contents with increasing infusion time. These results were unaffected by the addition of milk. Consumption of black tea (400 mL) was associated with significant increases in plasma antioxidant capacity (10%) and concentrations of total phenols (20%), catechins (32%), and the flavonols quercetin (39%) and kaempferol (45%) (all p < 0.01) within 80 min. This was unaffected by adding milk. Infusion time may therefore be a more important determinant in the absorption of polyphenols from black tea. Observational studies assessing the health benefits of tea consumption require recording of brewing methods as well as frequency of consumption. 相似文献

We studied the effects of baiting on feral swine (Sus scrofa) movements and corresponding likelihood of disease spread under real and simulated culling pressure. Our objectives were to determine the proportion of feral swine that used the bait station site, and if baiting of feral swine altered areas of utilization, distances from location centroids to treatment location (control or bait station), and movement rates by survivors during culling activities. We hypothesized that the bait station would increase the sedentary nature of feral swine, thus reducing the potential for dispersal and hence disease dispersal. Our experiment was conducted between February and May 2011 on the Rob and Bessie Welder Wildlife Foundation (WWF) in San Patricio County, Texas. We trapped 83 feral swine and placed GPS collars on 21 animals. We established and maintained a centralized bait station on one side of the WWF from 13 March to 27 April. We conducted population-wide culling activities, including trapping, controlled shooting, drive shooting, and aerial gunning, from 3 to 27 April and removed 143 feral swine (4.6feral swine/km(2)). Areas of utilization did not differ between treatments (control or bait station). However, we found location centroids of bait station site feral swine to be closer to the treatment location than those of control site animals and daily movement rates of bait station site feral swine to be 39% greater than movement rates of control site animals. Based on our observation that only 62% of feral swine trapped in proximity to the bait station used it, we cannot recommend baiting as an alternative to fences for containing animals during culling activities. However, there is value in using bait stations to describe patterns of feral swine movements, facilitate observation, and improve efficacy when conducting removals. 相似文献

Cyclopropenoid fatty acids (CPFAs), found in cottonseed, have been shown to have detrimental health effects to susceptible livestock. Previous quantitative analytical methods for the determination of CPFAs expressed these acids in terms of their relative abundance with respect to other fatty acids in the oil, necessitating the concurrent analysis of other fatty acids. The proposed analytical method describes the quantitation of three relevant CPFAs for cotton (malvalic acid, sterculic acid, and dihydrosterculic acid) in cottonseed in micrograms per gram fresh weight of sample. The method involves extraction of the oil, saponification, and derivatization of the free fatty acids with 2-bromoacetophenone to give the phenacyl esters. These esters are then separated by dual-column reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography and quantitated via external standards. This is the first method to include external calibration standards for CPFAs and, as such, is capable of direct quantification with no further data conversion required. CPFA data generated from the analysis of cottonseed, cottonseed meal, and cottonseed oil produced in the United States in 2002 are presented. 相似文献

A 2-year-old, 4 kg, healthy, domestic shorthair female cat presented with ulcerated subcutaneous nodules on the commissures of its mouth. The cat was negative for feline leukaemia virus and feline immunodeficiency virus. Skin mycobacteriosis was diagnosed after detection of numerous acid-fast bacilli in Ziehl Neelsen-stained smears from the ulcers. Feline leprosy was suspected following preliminary polymerase chain reaction results: positive for Mycobacterium genus but negative for Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complexes. Mycobacterium lepraemurium was later identified following DNA sequence analysis of the 5' end of the 16S rRNA gene and the 16S-23S internal transcribed spacer region. Microscopic lesions consisted of pyogranulomas containing mainly large foamy macrophages with 10-100 intra-cellular acid-fast bacilli per field. The cat was cured after surgery and a 14-week course of clofazimine (30 mg daily) and clarithromycin (50 mg twice daily). 相似文献

The origin of tetrodotoxin (TTX) is highly debated; researchers have postulated either an endogenous or exogenous source with the host accumulating TTX symbiotically or via food chain transmission. The aim of this study was to determine whether the grey side-gilled sea slug (Pleurobranchaea maculata) could obtain TTX from a dietary source, and to attempt to identify this source through environmental surveys. Eighteen non-toxic P. maculata were maintained in aquariums and twelve were fed a TTX-containing diet. Three P. maculata were harvested after 1 h, 24 h, 17 days and 39 days and TTX concentrations in their stomach, gonad, mantle and remaining tissue/fluids determined using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Tetrodotoxin was detected in all organs/tissue after 1 h with an average uptake of 32%. This decreased throughout the experiment (21%, 15% and 9%, respectively). Benthic surveys at sites with dense populations of toxic P. maculata detected very low or no TTX in other organisms. This study demonstrates that P. maculata can accumulate TTX through their diet. However, based on the absence of an identifiable TTX source in the environment, in concert with the extremely high TTX concentrations and short life spans of P. maculata, it is unlikely to be the sole TTX source for this species. 相似文献

The aim of this work was to investigate whether the application of soluble chitosan in potato micropropagation can improve
microplant quality in vitro, help acclimatisation ex vitro, and increase yield and seed quality of minitubers. Potato cv.
Désirée microplants were treated in vitro with soluble chitosan added to the semisolid tissue culture medium in different
concentrations. Microplants were subsequently transferred to the greenhouse and sprayed with chitosan solutions or remained
unsprayed. Untreated microplants were also established ex vitro and sprayed with chitosan, or left unsprayed as a control.
Morphological and physiological parameters of plant growth were assessed in vitro and ex vitro. Plantlet quality was evaluated
using a ranking system. Minitubers derived from greenhouse plantlets were planted in the field in subtropical conditions,
and growth and yield parameters evaluated. The chitosan concentration most beneficial to the in vitro growth of microplants
varied between years. In treatments with the best in vitro growth, minituber number and yield in the greenhouse was also increased.
Foliar chitosan application at the acclimatisation phase stabilised the effect of in vitro treatment on yield parameters.
The seed quality of minitubers derived from chitosan treatments in vitro alone and in combination with foliar treatment at
acclimatisation was improved, giving rise to field plants with increased tuber numbers and yields. The combination of chitosan
in vitro and foliar application during the acclimatisation phase ex vitro had a greater effect on minituber seed quality than
the concentration applied in vitro. 相似文献
