Most dogs in a closed breeding unit were shown to be asymptomatic excretors of campylobacter organisms by eight weeks old. Increasing serum antibody levels, which were correlated with the excretion of organisms, were demonstrated in the puppies and serum antibodies were also demonstrated in adult dogs. The significance of these findings with respect to the pathogenicity of campylobacter in dogs and their zoonotic implications are discussed.  相似文献

Nine stable hybridoma cell lines were established which secreted specific monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) to bovine gamma-interferon (BoIFN-gamma). Specific binding of each of the MAbs to recombinant BoIFN-gamma (rBoIFN-gamma) was demonstrated in an indirect ELISA, whilst none of the MAbs bound to rBoIFN-alpha or rBoIFN-beta. In a Western blot the MAbs reacted with the 16 kDa and 32 kDa polypeptides present in rBoIFN-gamma preparations. Competitive ELISA's showed that four MAbs bound to one epitope on rBoIFN-gamma, and the other five MAbs bound to a separate epitope. Two MAbs, each recognising different epitopes, were shown to neutralise the anti-viral activity of natural BoIFN-gamma.  相似文献

Microcellular starch foams (MCFs) are made by a solvent-exchange process and consist of a porous matrix with pores generally ranging from approximately 2 microm to submicrometer size. MCF may potentially be useful as a slow-release agent for volatile compounds because of its ability to sorb chemicals from the atmosphere and to absorb liquids into its porous structure, and because it can be compressed to form a starch plastic. MCF made of high-amylose corn and wheat starches was prepared with or without 2% (w/w) silicone oil (SO) or palmitic acid (PA). The MCF was loaded with 1% of various volatile compounds with vapor pressures ranging from 0.02 to 28 mm. The MCF depressed the vapor pressure from 0.37 to 37% compared to a control containing no MCF. Incorporating SO or PA in the matrix of the MCF had little effect on sorption of volatiles. Compressing MCF at 1.4, 6.9, and 69 MPa made a starch plastic with varying porosity. The vapor transmission rate of various volatile compounds through MCF was positively correlated to the vapor pressure of the test compound but was inversely proportional to the compression force used to form the starch plastic. The results indicate that uncompressed and compressed MCFs could be effective slow-release agents for a variety of volatile compounds, especially if used together.  相似文献

The ability of a hand‐held chlorophyll meter (SPAD‐502 Chlorophyll Meter3, Minolta Camera Co., Ltd., Japan) to determine the N status of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) was studied at field sites in Alabama and Missouri. Meter readings on the uppermost fully‐expanded leaf were compared to leaf‐blade N and petiole NO3‐N at first square, first bloom and midbloom as to their seed cotton yield predictive capability. Nitrogen was applied at rates of 0, 45, 90, 135, 180 and 225 kg ha‐1 to establish a range of cotton chlorophyll levels, tissue N concentrations, and seed cotton yields. A typical curvilinear cotton yield response to N fertilizer was observed in Alabama experiments.

Because of adverse weather conditions, cotton yield in Missouri experiments did not respond to N. Chlorophyll meter readings were significantly correlated to leaf‐blade N concentration at all three stages of growth for all experiments. In Alabama, chlorophyll meter readings compared favorably to leaf‐blade N and petiole NO3‐N with respect to their seed cotton yield predictive capability at all three stages of growth. It appears that hand‐held chlorophyll meters would be as reliable as leaf‐blade N and petiole NO3‐N for predicting supplemental N fertilization requirements of cotton. However, more research will be required prior to use of chlorophyll meter readings for routine cotton‐N recommendation purposes.  相似文献

The effects of feeding on blood flow to the equine foot are poorly understood. In a temperature-controlled room, duplex Doppler ultrasonographic observations were made pre- and postprandially of the lateral proper palmar digital artery of 5 horses, randomly assigned to twice and 4 times daily feeding in an unbalanced 2 period crossover design. Arterial diameter and blood velocity were measured over 4 h and additional observations made of heart rate, blood pressure, total plasma protein, packed cell volume, plasma glucose and insulin. There was no effect of the feeding regimen on any variable. Postprandially, there were significant increases in arterial diameter, blood velocity, total plasma protein, plasma glucose and insulin; the other variables were unchanged. It appeared that the normal postprandial response was an increase in blood flow to the foot. The value of ultrasonography for noninvasive investigation of the peripheral vasculature of the conscious horse was established; and in the future it may have a role in the diagnosis of vascular diseases of the foot.  相似文献
