An aggregation index (AI) to quantify spatial patterns of landscapes   总被引:43,自引:0,他引:43  
There is often need to measure aggregation levels of spatial patterns within a single map class in landscape ecological studies. The contagion index (CI), shape index (SI), and probability of adjacency of the same class (Qi), all have certain limits when measuring aggregation of spatial patterns. We have developed an aggregation index (AI) that is class specific and independent of landscape composition. AI assumes that a class with the highest level of aggregation (AI =1) is comprised of pixels sharing the most possible edges. A class whose pixels share no edges (completely disaggregated) has the lowest level of aggregation (AI =0). AI is similar to SI and Qi, but it calculates aggregation more precisely than the latter two. We have evaluated the performance of AI under varied levels of (1) aggregation, (2) number of patches, (3) spatial resolutions, and (4) real species distribution maps at various spatial scales. AI was able to produce reasonable results under all these circumstances. Since it is class specific, it is more precise than CI, which measures overall landscape aggregation. Thus, AI provides a quantitative basis to correlate the spatial pattern of a class with a specific process. Since AI is a ratio variable, map units do not affect the calculation. It can be compared between classes from the same or different landscapes, or even the same classes from the same landscape under different resolutions.  相似文献

A long-term experiment set up by G. W. Dimbleby to test the effect of birch as a soil improver on a heather moor podzol is described. After 30 yr, an acid woodland type of vegetation developed under the birch trees with Deschampsia flexuosa and Vaccinium myrtillus locally dominant. The mean annual dry matter production of stems and branches was approximately 2.9 t ha?1. The raw humus layer removed as an experimental treatment had re-formed. Its pH, about 3.4, had remained unchanged for 15 yr. The mean extractable Ca content of the upper 3 cm horizon of the birch plots and of the control plots under heather had increased and on some of the birch plots the concentrations of exchangeable Ca were somewhat higher than those under heather. The N content of the Ol + Of, Oh and Ea horizons was higher under the birch than under heather but there was no evidence of movement of Fe out of the ironpan under the influence of birch. The profile under birch remained a fully differentiated podzol.  相似文献

Abstract. The 96-h medium tolerance limit of Furanace (nifurpirinol: P-7138) for channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus at 21°C was 0-94 mg/1. The most effective treatment level for channel catfish, experimentally infected with Aeromonas hydrophila , was 2mg/1 for 6.5 h. Commercial infant formulas were analyzed simultaneously for thiamine and riboflavin by an automated fluorometric method and by the AOAC manual fluorometric methods. For 10 products, the mean thiamine and riboflavin results determined using the automated method ranged from 104 to 113% and 90 to 112%, respectively, of those by the AOAC manual methods. The coefficients of variation for thiamine and riboflavin ranged from 1.05 to 3.90% and 0.60 to 2.48%, respectively, for the automated methods, and 1.48 to 3.86% and 0.69 to 10.9%, respectively, for the manual methods. Using the automated method, mean recoveries of thiamine and riboflavin added to samples were 103 and 104%, respectively. The automated method used a common sample preparation to determine both thiamine and riboflavin, and gave results equivalent to, or better than, those obtained by the manual methods.  相似文献

A method is given for determining monosodium glutamate (MSG) in soups and soup bases by gas-liquid chromatography (GLC) of the trimethylsilyl ether derivative of glutamic acid. This method compared favorably with existing methods including GLC of the trifluoroacetate (TFA)/butyl ester derivative, and analysis on an amino acid analyzer. In addition, some samples were analyzed by GLC/mass spectrometry. The MSG content of various products ranged from approximately 0.2% in some condensed soups to 13.1% on bouillon cubes. The method, which can detect as little as 0.05%, requires only a 10 min single step derivatization at room temperature and is preferred to the TFA/butyl ester technique.  相似文献

A method was devised for the extraction and measurement of adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP) in soil that minimizes sorption of ATP on the soil colloids. Soil was ultrasonified for 1 min with a solution containing trichloracetic acid (0.5 m). disodium hydrogen orthophosphate (0.25 m) and paraquat dichloride (0.1 m). The ATP content of the filtered extract was determined without further treatment in a scintillation spectrometer by the firefly luciferin-luciferase system. Recovery of added ATP was greater using the extratant containing trichloracetic acid, orthophosphate and paraquat than with trichloracetic acid alone or with a sulphuric acid extradant. Recoveries of added ATP ranged from 45% to 84% in thirteen different soils; ATP contents from 0.64 to 9.03 μg g?1 soil.  相似文献

Fungal succession on untreated and fungicide- and insecticide-treated leaves of Eucalyptus pauciflora was compared. Natural succession on untreated leaves fits the general scheme for succession on deciduous tree leaves. Initial colonizers are species of Coelomycetes and Moniliales. When the numbers of Coelomycetes decrease in the late stages of decomposition, the frequency of Penicillium species and species of Zygomycetes increases. The succession is affected only marginally by DDT and dieldrin treatment while benomyl severely restricts the occurrence of most fungal species. The effect of benomyl persists even after exposure for 48 weeks in the field.  相似文献

Densitometer records were made from the scales of a number of fish species, mainly from pikeperch. Analysis of the records showed that the pattern of hollows, representing the circuli in the curves, was very regular. No arrangement into groups of narrowly interspaced circuli could be demonstrated. It was therefore concluded that the circuli of the surface layer do not produce the “growth-checks”. Ringlike structures were also present in the fibrous basal plate. These were about 3–5 μm closer together than the circuli. These two circular gratings of slightly different inter-ring spacing will create an interference pattern, in this case a circular moiré pattern, having no direct relation to the structures present in the two layers forming the scale.  相似文献

Abstract. The specificity and kinetics of the immune response of rainbow trout ( Salmo gairdneri ) to single injections of an O-antigen extracted from the bacterial pathogen Yersinia ruckeri , which causes enteric redmouth in fish, were investigated by the passive haemolytic plaque assay and serum antibody quantitation. Doses ranging from 5 ng to 500 mg in 10-fold increments were injected intraperitoneally into groups of trout held at 17 × 1°5°C. The occurrence of plaque forming cells (PFC) and humoral antibody was followed for 35 days after injection. Trout gave an immune response to doses of 500 ng and above. Seven days after injection no humoral antibody was detected, but PFC were found in the spleen. The maximum PFC numbers occurred 11 days after injection. On day 21, few PFC were found, whereas serum antibody titres were highest. The antibody from immunized trout showed little or no cross-reactions with sheep red blood cells passively labelled With antigens from other fish pathogens.  相似文献
