A field experiment was conducted to follow the transformation of ammonium fertilizer applied in rainfed-upland fields. The study was done during the rainy season on a heavy-textured, poorly rained soil. Ammonium fertilizer was applied in rows, and soil samples from different depths were analyzed to check the vertical distribution of inorganic nitrogen. In order to learn the relation between nitrogen loss and nitrification, the effect of nitrification inhibitor was also checked. Ice variety IR5 was used to check nitrogen uptake. The ammonium content decreased by about 40 per cent up to I month after fertilizing and about 90% up to 2 months after fertilizing in the unplanted plots. Up to 5 months it decreased to a level equal to or lower than that before fertilizer application. The accumulation of nitrate was observed in the lower soil layers-after 3 months, but the accumulated amount was too low to account for the loss of ammonia from the surface. The overall loss of mineral nitrogen within 60 cm of the surface was observed after 5 months in unplanted plots. The addition of nitrification inhibitor retarded the decrease of ammonium nitrogen up to 2 months. After 3 months, the nitrifying activity began to recover. Kahokugata Lake, a closed lake, has been subject to eutrophication. This research was conducted to clarify the actual phenomena
and evaluation of the discharges of N and P from paddy test fields in the lowlands into Kahokugata Lake. A comprehensive mass
balance of N and P was obtained from 4 years of study. About N, the mean value of harvested unhulled rice (79.9 kg/ha) was
greater than mean controlled release fertilizer inputs (56.7 kg/ha). Other inputs and outputs include N in atmospheric acid
deposition (21.4 kg/ha) and N fixation–denitrification (9.2 kg/ha). The rice straw recycled after harvest was balanced by
straw produced in the succeeding year. The runoff and percolation losses discharged into the lake was 11.3 kg/ha, (8.6% of
total inputs). Since the rice harvested was consumed domestically, which taking out from the farmland and, therefore, nitrogen
pollutant into the lake was becoming small, paddy rice at this site is considered an “anti-polluting, purifying or cleansing”
crop. The P content in harvested rice (39.4 kg/ha) was balanced by fertilizer inputs (36.4 kg/ha). Previous studies examining
inflow–outflow relationships without considering a comprehensive mass balance may lead to erroneous conclusions. Our findings
indicate paddy rice in lowlands could be an environmentally friendly crop and can play an important role in reducing pollution

Technology for storing carbon in the subsoil of agricultural land using organic filter materials in underdrains was evaluated as an activity for sequestering CO2 to mitigate global warming. First, the quantity of carbon remaining in wood chips and rice husks in underdrains was determined over 11 years after construction. Moreover, the quantity of CO2 emissions from the construction of two underdrain types was calculated. Then, a survey was conducted to investigate the effect on greenhouse gas emissions of the filter material. The results indicate that greenhouse gas emissions would not increase. The quantity of storage carbon in the wood chip filter material of underdrains during their 15-year service life was estimated to be 6.76 tCO2eq ha?1. Rice husks, in contrast, were found ineffective in storing carbon. Therefore, the selection of the filter material for underdrains is important. The value of storage carbon in the wood chip filter material is similar to the amount of carbon sequestered by no-till farming, which is now being implemented as a global warming countermeasure based on soil management in agricultural land. 相似文献

The fate of prothiofos (O-2,4-dichlorophenyl O-ethyl S-propyl phosphorodithioate) were studied in male rats 1, 3, 8, 24, 48, and 120 hr after oral administration. In the determination of prothiofos by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, pentadeuteroethoxy-labeled prothiofos was used as the internal standard and the carrier of residual prothiofos. Prothiofos was rapidly absorbed from the small intestine and had substantially disappeared from the gastrointestinal tract within 24 hr after dosing. The residual concentrations of prothiofos in all organs analyzed, reached a maximum at 3 hr after dosing, and then diminished exponentially. The major urinary metabolites were 2,4-dichlorophenol (21% of administered prothiofos), its conjugated substances (26%), O-2,4-dichlorophenyl O-ethyl hydrogen phosphorothioate (14%), and O-2,4-dichlorophenyl O-ethyl hydrogen phosphate (25%). While prothiofos was found in the feces (3.8%), prothiofos oxygen analog (prothiofos-oxon) was scarcely detected in any excreta. Results obtained with a single dosing of prothiofos-oxon indicated that the oxygen analog formed from prothiofos in vivo was rapidly degraded through cleavage of the PS bond and the liberation of 2,4-dichlorophenol. The low mammalian toxicity of prothiofos is probably due to depropylthiolation in the molecule. 相似文献

The coal–biomass briquette is an alternative fuel that replaces low-grade coal. It is expected that the use of coal–biomass briquettes will effectively reduce the indoor concentration of sulfur dioxide (SO2) emitted during raw coal combustion. In this study, indoor concentrations of SO2 emitted from combustion of either coal–biomass briquettes or low-grade coal in households in Nanchuan, which is in the rural area of Chongqing City, China, were measured. The acidic gases were collected using passive samplers, and the samplers were taken to the laboratory for extraction and measurement. The SO2 concentrations resulting from the use of coal–biomass briquettes were clearly reduced compared with those resulting from the use of low-grade coal. The concentrations of SO2 to which the inhabitants (housewives) of the houses were exposed were also measured, and were found to be less with coal–biomass briquettes. Although with coal–biomass briquettes exposure concentrations still exceeded the World Health Organization guideline for SO2 (125 μ g m?3), indoor air pollution and adverse effects on human health caused by SO2 could be decreased by substituting coal–biomass briquettes for low-grade coal as a domestic fuel. 相似文献

AbstractSustainable agriculture needs appropriate management of water, chemicals and heat in soil. In this study, we focused on thermal conductivity, which is among the various soil physical properties that are crucial for the sustainable management of agricultural fields. To expand the Mochizuki model, which describes thermal conductivity as a function of water content and solution concentration, we considered the water content, solution concentration and temperature as independent variables. The thermal conductivity of Tottori dune sand was measured under conditions of various combinations of these three independent variables. We observed that the thermal conductivity increased linearly with increasing water content, 0.054–0.276 m3 m?3, for fixed temperature and solution concentration, and varied linearly with solution concentration for fixed temperature and water content. These results are consistent with the Mochizuki model. Using the Mochizuki model, the experimental parameters, which are dependent variables of water content and solution concentration, are shown as functions of water content. From regression analyses of the relationships between the experimental parameters and temperature, we expanded the Mochizuki model into a new practical formula that quantifies the soil thermal conductivity as a function of water content, solution concentration and temperature. 相似文献

A benomyl-tolerant strain (94110Tr) ofTrichoderma spp. was isolated from airborne fungi in a growing room for sawdust-based cultivation ofLentinula edodes (Berk.) Pegler in Hokkaido. The strain was identified asT. harzianum Rifai, so the antifungal activity of benomyl (BEN), thiabendazole (TBZ), benzalkonium chloride (BAC), chlorhexidine digluconate (CHG), and glutaraldehyde (GLA) were tested against six strains ofT. harzianum, including 94110Tr. It was found that 94110Tr was more resistant than the others not only to BEN but also to TBZ, but it had no explicit tolerance to BAC, CHG, or GLA, similar to the other strains. CHG and GLA showed potent antifungal activity against most of the six strains.
