The possibility of estrus prevention in the queen by the oral administration of chlormadinone acetate was examined. The animals used were 29 mature and 15 immature queens. For 16 mature females, 4-12.5 mg was given daily by mouth for 7 days every 3 months. Ten of the 16 queens given this treatment came into estrus within 4 months of the first treatment. For 28 females including the immature, 2-12.5 mg was given once a week throughout the experiment. This treatment prevented estrous activity for at least 1 year. In the queens in this study, the side effects were not observed excepting an increase in body weight during treatment. Our results showed that oral administration of this drug weekly is safe and reliable for long-range prevention of estrus in queens.  相似文献

Alpha-Hemoglobin stabilizing protein (AHSP) functions as the erythroid-specific molecular chaperon for alpha-globin. AHSP gene expression has been reported to be downregulated in hematopoietic tissues of animals suffering from prion diseases though the mechanism remains to be clarified. Herein, we demonstrate that MELhipod8 cells, a subclone of murine erythroleukemia (MEL) cells, have prion protein (PrPc) on the cell surface and have highly inducible expression of the AHSP and alpha- and beta-globin genes, resembling the expression pattern of the PrP and AHSP genes in bipotential erythroid- and megakaryocyte-lineage cells followed by erythroid differentiation in normal erythropoiesis. Moreover, MELhipod8 cells exhibit greater effective erythroid differentiation with a population of hemoglobinized normoblast-like cells than that observed for the parental MEL cells. These findings suggest that MELhipod8 cells could provide a mechanism for downregulation of the AHSP gene in prion diseases.  相似文献

The multiplication of Akabane virus was not inhibited in the presence of 5-iodo-2′-deoxyuridine, indicating the presence of RNA. The virus was considered to have an envelope, as it was sensitive to ether and chloroform. It was readily inactivated by deoxycholate and trypsin, but was not precipitated by protamine sulphate. The virus was very labile at pH 3 and also rather heat-labile. Akabane virus was readily filtered through membrane filters of 200 or 100-nm pore size, but not through 50-nm filters. Equilibrium centrifugation in a CsCl density gradient gave a peak of infectivity and hemagglutinin at a density of 1.22 g/ml. The peak fractions thus obtained contained numerous virus particles, roughly spherical, variable in size, 70 to 130 nm in diameter, and mostly having a ragged, closely adherent envelope with projections, when examined, following phosphotungstic acid negative staining, in an electron microscope.  相似文献

Pufferfishes belonging to the genus Tetraodon form one of the largest groups in the family Tetraodontidae. This group consists of more than 20 species distributed across freshwater, as well as brackish and coastal waters, of Africa and Southeast Asia. However, their phylogenetic and evolutionary relationships are still ambiguous. In the present study, mitochondrial genes encoding 16S rRNA and cytochrome b were sequenced for 17 Tetraodon species collected from various areas mentioned above. Supermatrix analysis based on the complete sequences of the two genes from Tetraodon species was performed using a tree with 50 tetraodontid species (including 7 Tetraodon species) as a backbone. The obtained phylogenetic tree classified Tetraodon species into three groups, correlating well with their habitats, such as Asian freshwater, Asian brackish water, and African freshwater. We also showed that salinity tolerance of Asian freshwater species T. cochinchinensis was apparently lower than that of Asian brackish water species T. nigroviridis, suggesting that the speciation of Tetraodon species in the Asian freshwater group was caused by the molecular evolution associated with osmotic regulation.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: The complete nucleotide sequence of the mitochondrial genome for the Japanese anchovy Engraulis japonicus (Teleostei: Clupeiformes) was determined. The entire genome was purified by gene amplification using the long polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique, and products were subsequently used as templates for PCR with 56 fish-versatile primers that amplify contiguous, overlapping segments of the entire genome. Direct sequencing of the PCR products demonstrated that the genome (16 675 base pairs [bp]) contained the same 37 mitochondrial genes (two ribosomal RNA, 22 transfer RNA and 13 protein-coding genes) as those found in other vertebrates, with the gene order being identical to that in typical vertebrates. A major non-coding region between the tRNAPro and tRNAPhe genes (1024 bp) was considered to be the control (D-loop) region, as it has several conservative blocks characteristic to this region.  相似文献
