This study aimed to characterize the physiological and morphological traits that are associated with adaptation to unflooded soil conditions in rice. Four indica rice cultivars (Puluik Arang, Badari Dhan, Shwe Nang Gyi, and Ratul), which were previously identified as highly or less adaptable to unflooded soil conditions, were grown under flooded and unflooded (soil water potential; -0.10 MPa) soil conditions. Water uptake was measured every day for three weeks, and then the leaf water potential, the stomatal conductance, the dry matter weight, shoot and root morphological traits were measured. Puluik Arang and Badari Dhan exhibited greater leaf area expansion and higher maintenance of root development under the unflooded condition than that by other cultivars. The leaf water potential and stomatal conductance of fully expanded highest leaf in Puluik Arang and Badari Dhan were not affected by unflooded soil regime. Leaf area and root morphological traits were significantly correlated with water uptake regardless of soil moisture regimes. These results suggested that Puluik Arang and Badari Dhan exhibited great water uptake capacity through physiological and morphological adaptation of shoot and root traits to unflooded condition, resulting in great biomass productivity under the condition.  相似文献

Strobilurus ohshimae is an edible mushroom, and it specifically forms its fruiting bodies on buried sugi (Cryptomeria japonica) twigs. In this research, we studied lignindegrading activity of S. ohshimae. We isolated 18 strains of S. ohshimae from various regions of Japan, and determined their lignin degradation rates on sugi wood meal medium. All the strains of S. ohshimae degraded approximately 6%–12% of sugi lignin in 30 days, and these lignin degradation rates were 1.5–3 times higher than those of Trametes versicolor, which is a typical lignin-degrading fungus. Among the three main lignin-degrading enzymes, activity of lignin peroxidase and manganese peroxidase was not observed, while 4340U/g of laccase was produced in 30 days. To investigate the effect of wood species on lignin degradation by S. ohshimae, the lignin degradation rate and laccase productivity on sugi wood meal medium were compared with those on beech (Fagus crenata). In T. versicolor, both lignin degradation rate and laccase productivity were higher on beech than on sugi. Conversely, in S. ohshimae, lignin degradation rate and laccase productivity were higher on sugi than on beech. Therefore, it was suggested that coniferous lignin is not always difficult to degrade for the fungi that inhabit softwood. The rumen microbiota comprises a vast range of bacterial taxa, which may affect the production of high-quality meat in Japanese Black cattle. The aim of this study was to identify core rumen microbiota in rumen fluid samples collected from 74 Japanese Black cattle raised under different dietary conditions using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing. In the rumen of fattening Japanese Black cattle, 10 bacterial taxa, showing >1% average relative abundance and >95% prevalence, irrespective of the dietary conditions and the fattening periods, were identified as the core rumen bacterial taxa, which accounted for approximately 80% of the rumen microbiota in Japanese Black cattle. Additionally, population dynamics of the core rumen bacterial taxa revealed two distinct patterns: Prevotella spp. and unclassified Bacteroidales decreased in the mid-fattening period, whereas unclassified Clostridiales, unclassified Ruminococcaceae, Ruminococcus spp., and unclassified Christensenellaceae increased during the same period. Therefore, the present study reports the wide distribution of the core rumen bacterial taxa in Japanese Black cattle, and the complementary nature of the population dynamics of these core taxa, which may ensure stable rumen fermentation during the fattening period.  相似文献

Three dogs presented for the evaluation of cardiac murmurs were diagnosed with aberrant arteriovenous shunts. All cases demonstrated the following findings: 1) relatively soft continuous murmur loudest at the left heart base resembling patent ductus arteriosus (PDA); 2) shunt flow signals in the pulmonary artery on echocardiography; and 3) no PDA on selective angiography, but evidence of anomalous shunting vessels from thoracic aorta to pulmonary vasculature. An aberrant arteriovenous shunt should be considered when a continuous murmur of relatively small intensity is heard.  相似文献

C-reactive protein (CRP) was isolated from the acute phase serum of dogs subjected to surgical stimulation. Its properties were characterized. Canine CRP was isolated by ion-exchange chromatography using DEAE-Sephacel and DEAE-Sephadex A-50 and affinity chromatography using protein A-Sepharose CL 4B in combination with agar-block electrophoresis. In immunoelectrophoresis, canine CRP had the same γ-mobility as human γ-type CRP. The molecular weight of purifined canine CRP was estimated by gel filtration and sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis to be approximately 157 000 and 155 000 respectively. This CRP was a thermolabile protein which completely lost its antigenicity by heating at 70°C for 15 min. The serum concentration of CRP in normal beagle dogs ranged from 0.198 to 0.826 μg ml−1 (0.486±0.170 μg ml−1). The concentration was acutely increased by surgery as it was in man and was rapidly decreased with convalescence. Dogs can be a useful animal model for investigation of the mechanism of CRP production and the function of CRP.  相似文献

A 13‐month‐old female Toy Poodle was presented for progressive ataxia and intention tremors of head movement. The diagnosis of Sandhoff's disease (GM2 gangliosidosis) was confirmed by deficient β‐N‐acetylhexosaminidase A and B activity in circulating leukocytes and identification of the homozygous mutation (HEXB: c.283delG). White matter in the cerebrum and cerebellum was hyperintense on T2‐weighted and fluid‐attenuated inversion recovery magnetic resonance images. Over the next 2 years, the white matter lesions expanded, and bilateral lesions appeared in the cerebellum and thalamus, associated with clinical deterioration. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy showed progressive decrease in brain N‐acetylaspartate, and glycine‐myo‐inositol and lactate‐alanine were increased in the terminal clinical stage. The concentrations of myelin basic protein and neuron specific enolase in cerebrospinal fluid were persistently increased. Imaging and spectroscopic appearance correlated with histopathological findings of severe myelin loss in cerebral and cerebellar white matter and destruction of the majority of cerebral and cerebellar neurons.  相似文献

An epizootiological survey with histopathological methods was conducted for porcine circovirus in 220 diseased pigs (1-200 days old) in 49 farms from 1985 to 1999. Histopathological lesions containing PCV antigen were detected mainly in the lymphoid tissues from 42 of 189 diseased pigs (22.2%) in 4 of 45 farms (8.9%) from 1990 to 1999. The rate of positive pigs gradually increased from 1997 onward and PCV infection was found in 50% of diseased pigs in 1999. Histopathologically, the lesions in the lymphoid tissues (including lymph nodes, Peyer's patches, tonsil and spleen) were highly correlated with the presence of numerous spherical basophilic intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies with PCV antigen, and consisted of lymphocellular depletion and infiltration of macrophages. Although most affected cells showed cytoplasmic reactivity for PCV, intranuclear antigen was also seen in the lymphocytes, macrophages and ileal epithelial cells. Ultrastructurally, macrophages and giant cells contained electron-dense, round to ovoid lysosomal bodies, in which there were concentric circle or paracrystalline arrays of small nonenveloped icosahedral viral particles, approximately 15-17 nm in diameter. Other consistent infectious agents were present in 90.5% of cases, and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus infection was in 52.4% of the cases with PCV. The histopathological findings suggested that PCV induced systemic immunosuppression in the infected pigs and made them more susceptible to infection of the organisms. Because of the presence of PCV antigens in the intestinal epithelium, feces may play a significant role in dissemination of PCV.  相似文献

Three cases of bovine gamma(delta) T-cell lymphoma without skin involvement are described. Case 1 was a 17-month-old Holstein heifer with generalized lymphadenopathy. Case 2 was a 4-year-old Holstein cow that had multiple tumour masses in the uterine body and horns. Case 3, a 23-month-old Holstein bull was presented with generalized tremor, nystagmus and hyperesthaesia, and there were several tumour masses in the meninges. Cases 1 and 2 had epitheliotropic neoplastic infiltrates in the tonsillar epithelium and endometrial glands, respectively. Immunohistochemistry showed CD3+, WC1+, CD79a- lymphoma cells in all cases, and perforin was positive in two cases. Electron-dense granules were present in many neoplastic cells of all cases. These findings supported the cytotoxic gamma(delta) T-cell origin of the present lymphomas. Bovine gamma(delta) T-cell lymphoma may originate in a wide variety of anatomical sites and may be classified into several histological subtypes.  相似文献
