Free-standing aligned carbon nanotubes have previously been grown above 700 degreesC on mesoporous silica embedded with iron nanoparticles. Here, carbon nanotubes aligned over areas up to several square centimeters were grown on nickel-coated glass below 666 degreesC by plasma-enhanced hot filament chemical vapor deposition. Acetylene gas was used as the carbon source and ammonia gas was used as a catalyst and dilution gas. Nanotubes with controllable diameters from 20 to 400 nanometers and lengths from 0. 1 to 50 micrometers were obtained. Using this method, large panels of aligned carbon nanotubes can be made under conditions that are suitable for device fabrication.  相似文献

The relationship between the serological classification system for serogroup B and for serogroup H of Bacteroides nodosus and cross-protection between subgroups within these serogroups was examined. Protection against ovine footrot following vaccination was achieved against other subgroup strains provided sufficient cross-reactive antibody was induced by shared pilus antigens. Within serogroup B, better cross-protection against one subgroup was obtained with a pili vaccine than a whole cell vaccine which correlated with higher pilus antibody titres induced by the former. For serogroup H, a lack of cross-protection and serological reactivity between subgroups was demonstrated, which indicates that the prototype strain of subgroup H2 should be designated a new serogroup.  相似文献

The experimental fragmentation of landscapes of a natural ecosystem resulted in declines in the abundance and distribution of most species in the multispecies animal community inhabiting the landscapes and the extinction of many species. These declines caused the deterioration of the positive interspecific relation between local population abundance and distributional extent in this community. However, when patches were connected by habitat corridors, an immigration "rescue effect" arrested declines in both abundance and distribution and maintained the observed positive relation between them. These results demonstrate the importance of metapopulation dynamics and landscape connectivity for the persistence of populations in fragmented landscapes.  相似文献

The free modulation of interlayer distance in a layered high-transition temperature (high-Tc) superconductor is of crucial importance not only for the study of the superconducting mechanism but also for the practical application of high-Tc superconducting materials. Two-dimensional (2D) superconductors were achieved by intercalating a long-chain organic compound into bismuth-based high-Tc cuprates. Although the intercalation of the organic chain increased the interlayer distance remarkably, to tens of angstroms, the superconducting transition temperature of the intercalate was nearly the same as that of the pristine material, suggesting the 2D nature of the high-Tc superconductivity.  相似文献

The microscopic particle motions from the crystal to the disordered state of a dusty plasma with micrometer-sized silicon dioxide particle suspensions in a radio-frequency glow discharge system were studied through an optical microimaging system. Small-amplitude random motion around the lattice sites of the crystal state, relative domain motion with varying boundaries, cooperative hopping in the liquid state, and highly disordered motion with increasing radio-frequency power were observed. Chaotic states with different spatial scales under the coherent and stochastic coupling between dust particles and self-organized background plasma fluctuations were also demonstrated.  相似文献

Observations with the High Resolution Imager on the Rontgensatellit reveal x-ray emissions from Jupiter's equatorial latitudes. The observed emissions probably result from the precipitation of energetic (>300 kiloelectron volts per atomic mass unit) sulfur and oxygen ions out of Jupiter's inner radiation belt. Model calculations of the energy deposition by such heavy ion precipitation and of the resulting atmospheric heating rates indicate that this energy source can contribute to the high exospheric temperatures(>800 kelvin at 0.01 microbar) measured by the Galileo probe's Atmospheric Structure Instrument. Low-latitude energetic particle precipitation must therefore be considered, in addition to other proposed mechanisms such as gravity waves and soft electron precipitation, as an important source of heat for Jupiter's thermosphere.  相似文献

Holstein steer calves (130 kg) were used to monitor venoarterial concentration differences of plasma peptide and serum protein amino acids across the hindlimbs. Calves were fed purified diets containing soy protein or urea as the sole source of dietary N. Twenty-four hourly feedings per day were imposed to promote "steady-state" metabolism. Negative venoarterial differences of glutamic acid (P less than .10), valine (P less than .10), lysine (P less than .05) and histidine (P less than .01) were observed in soy-fed calves and isoleucine (P less than .10) in urea-fed calves from the peptide fraction. Negative venoarterial differences of amino acids from the peptide fraction were generally similar for the two dietary treatments, except for glutamic acid (P less than .01). A large negative venoarterial difference of glutamic acid was observed when soy protein was fed and, conversely, a large positive venoarterial difference was observed when urea was fed. Two groups of serum proteins were evaluated: fraction I (primarily globulins) and fraction II (primarily albumin). Hindlimb amino acid venoarterial concentration differences for soy-fed calves were inconsistent and nonsignificant for both fractions I and II. Conversely, hindlimb negative venoarterial concentration differences in urea-fed calves for both fractions I and II were large and statistically significant for many amino acids. Fraction II venoarterial differences were much greater than differences observed in fraction I. Soy and urea treatment differences were also much more pronounced in fraction II, being statistically significant for 8 of 17 amino acids. These data indicate venoarterial concentration differences of serum protein amino acids that react differently to varied nutritional regimens.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
