In order to study the metabolic fate of chlorinated fatty acids in fish, goldfish were fed either 9,10-dichlorostearic acid or oleic acid, chosen as the unchlorinated analogue, both radiolabelled at either the carboxyl (1st) or the terminal (18th) carbon of the fatty acid chain. By keeping the fish in hermetically closed aquaria, all the respired, assimilated and excreted radioactivity could be accounted for. Fish fed 9,10-dichlorostearic acid labelled in the terminal end respired radioactive CO2 to a much lower degree than fish fed the other test compounds. As a consequence, the radioactivity bound in lipids was higher in the group of fish fed dichlorostearic acid labelled in the terminal end. It is suggested that the chlorine atoms in the middle of the carbon chain obstruct the metabolic turn-over of 9,10-dichlorostearic acid, which may have an impact on the residence time of these compounds in the ecosystem.  相似文献

A method based on matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) was developed for the gas chromatographic (GC) determination of chloramphenicol (CAP) residues in animal muscle tissue. Muscle tissue was blended with octadecylsilyl-derivatized silica (C(18)). A column made from the C(18)/muscle tissue matrix was washed with n-hexane and acetonitrile/water (5 + 95), after which CAP was eluted with acetonitrile/water (50 + 50) and partitioned into ethyl acetate. The final extract was evaporated, and a trimethylsilyl derivative of CAP was prepared with Sylon HTP and detected by GC with an electron capture detector (ECD) and a mass spectrometer. For quantitation, the internal standard used was the meta isomer of CAP (m-CAP) for GC-ECD. Muscle tissue samples were fortified at three concentration levels. At 5, 10, and 15 microg/kg levels the respective mean recoveries were 93, 96, and 98%, and the repeatabilities were 13, 11, and 3%. The detection and quantitation limits with ECD were 1.6 and 4.0 microg/kg, respectively. No statistically significant difference was observed in the efficiency of CAP extraction from muscle tissue of various animals (bovine, porcine, and poultry) by the MSPD technique.  相似文献

An attempt to predict the rate of spread of and economic losses due to Parafiliaria bovicola infections in Swedish cattle was made for a 20-year period using the best epidemiological data available. By 1990, yearly losses in the absence of a control program may amount to 40 million Swedish crowns (8 million U.S.$). The estimated losses were compared to four presumptive eradication measures: (i) pharmaceutical treatment of cows with cutaneous Parafilaria bleeding, (ii) culling of bleeding cows, (iii) indoor management of bleeding cows, and (iv) pharmaceutical treatment of young livestock going to slaughter. Only the first three control programs will theoretically result in eradication of the parasite. The calculated benefit—cost ratios were 30.0, 5.9, 5.9 and 1.9 for (i), (ii), (iii) and (iv), respectively.  相似文献

Degree of the association between line per se performance (LP) and testcross performance (TP) is important in breeding programs and simultaneous improvement of commercial hybrids and their parental lines. This experiment was designed to study genetic variability and genetic correlation for several agronomic traits in two maize (Zea mays L.) broad-based populations (NS12-SG and NS14-SG). Independent trials with 80 entries of S1 progenies as well as their testcrosses were arranged according to an incomplete block design with replicates in sets. Grain yield, stay green, anthesis-silking interval, stalk water content and grain moisture were evaluated in four environments. The anthesis-silking interval had the highest genetic variation, followed by stay green. High heritability estimates (>0.50) for all traits, pointed out that further selection would be possible. Genetic correlations between line per se and testcross performance were lowest for grain yield (0.396** and 0.592**, for NS12-SG and NS14-SG, respectively), and highest for grain moisture (0.937** and 0.821**, respectively). High correlations between line per se and their testcrosses for stay green, anthesis-silking interval, stalk water content and grain moisture indicated that additive gene action might be more important than dominance in controlling the expression of these traits.  相似文献

Monilinia fructicola, the most destructive pathogen of the genus Monilinia, has recently been introduced into Serbia and many other European countries. Since then, many studies have been conducted to evaluate the characteristics of Monilinia species that have a role in the establishment and survival of the pathogen in new areas. The present study assessed the capacity of M. fructicola to repress and replace Monilinia laxa in Serbia based on: fungicide sensitivity, growth rate and aggressiveness at different temperatures, as well as frost hardiness of the isolates of both species. The results showed that the isolates of M. fructicola, compared to M. laxa, were significantly less sensitive to the following fungicides: iprodione, tebucanozole, chlorothalonil, azoxystrobin, fluopyram, and boscalid. In addition, M. laxa isolates exhibited little variation in sensitivity to all of the tested fungicides, whereas M. fructicola isolates displayed a wide range of sensitivity. The temperature of 5°C favored M. laxa growth and aggressiveness, while at 30°C M. fructicola grew faster and had higher lesion expansion rate. These results support an assumption that M. fructicola will continue to spread in Serbian orchards in coming years, particularly on stone fruits harvested during hot summer weather.  相似文献

To determine seasonal changes in circulating leptin concentrations, as well as leptin fluctuations in various patterns of seasonal ovarian activity, blood samples were taken in 107 Lipizzan fillies aged 1–4 years over the whole year from January to December. Serum concentrations were measured in samples obtained once a month (leptin) or twice a month (progesterone), and evaluated with respect to the age of animals (yearlings, 2-, 3- and 4-year olds) and the pattern of ovarian activity (anoestrous, seasonal cycle, prolonged cyclicity, continuous cyclicity). The mean and monthly leptin concentrations in 3- and 4-year olds were significantly higher than in yearlings and 2-year olds (p < 0.001). Circulating leptin levels in 3- and 4-year olds increased significantly in summer, to peak in August and then decline significantly (p < 0.001) in autumn. The fluctuations in younger fillies were less evident. The highest mean serum leptin concentrations were observed in fillies exhibiting continuous cyclicity and the lowest in those, exhibiting seasonal cyclicity (p < 0.001). In anoestrous fillies, leptin concentrations were lower than in fillies with prolonged or continuous cyclicity but higher than in fillies with seasonal cyclic activity (p > 0.05).  相似文献

Conversion of meadow and forest ecosystems to agricultural land generally leads to changes in soil structure. This comparative study presents the composition and stability of structural aggregates in humus horizons (0–30 cm) of noncarbonate silty‐clay Fluvisols in the Kolubara River Valley, W Serbia. Aggregates collected from under a native forest were compared to aggregates from meadows and arable fields which underwent crop rotation for > 100 y. The results show that size distribution and stability of structural aggregates in the humus horizons of arable soil are significantly impaired due to long‐term anthropogenization. In the humus horizons, the content of the agronomically most valuable aggregates (0.25–10 mm) decreased by a factor of ≈ 2, from 68%–74% to 37%–39%, while the percentage of cloddy aggregates (>10 mm) increased by a factor of ≈ 2, from 23%–31% to 48%–62%, compared to forest aggregates. The long‐term‐arable soil had significantly (p < 0.05) lower aggregate stability, determined by wet sieving, than meadow and forest soils. The lowest aggregate stability was found in aggregates > 3 mm. Their content is ≈ 2.5–3 times lower in arable soil (13%–16%) than in forest soil (32%–42%) at a depth of 0–20 cm. The largest mean weight diameters of dry aggregates (dMWD) with a range between 12.6 and 14.7 mm were found in arable soil, vs. 9.5–9.9 mm in meadow and 6.5–8.3 mm in forest. The arable soil had significantly lower mean weight diameters of wet‐stable aggregates (wMWD) and a lower structure coefficient (Ks) than forest and meadow soils. The dispersion ratio (DR) of arable soil was significantly higher than that of forest and meadow soils. Forest and meadow showed a significantly higher soil organic‐matter content (SOM) by 74% and 39%, respectively, compared with arable soil, while meadow uses decreased the SOM content by 57% compared with forest at a depth of 0–10 cm. In conclusion, the results showed that long‐term conventional tillage of soils from natural forest and meadow in the lowland ecosystems of W Serbia degraded soil aggregate–size distribution and stability and reduced SOM content, probably resulting in lower productivity and reduced crop yields.  相似文献

REASONS FOR PERFORMING STUDY: The onset of puberty and duration of seasonal cyclicity in Lipizzan fillies and young mares have been determined mostly by empirical data, but very little is known about the hormonal changes at puberty and during the seasonal cyclicity in this breed. OBJECTIVES: To determine the onset of puberty and the course of the cyclicity in young Lipizzan mares from age 1-4 years. METHODS: Blood samples were collected twice a month for 2 years from 46 Lipizzan fillies age 1-4 years. Progesterone concentrations, indicating ovarian activity, were measured using an EIA kit. Values above 6.4 nmol/l were taken to indicate luteal phase and those below 3.4 nmol/l, oestrus. RESULTS: Fifty percent of Lipizzan fillies entered puberty during the first spring after their birth at mean +/- s.e. age 15.25 +/- 0.31 months and 50% during the second spring, at age 25.2 +/- 0.57 months. For several fillies of all ages, manifesting anoestrus during the winter months, the oestrus started in March and reached a peak in June to September. The duration of the oestrus activity was age-dependent, at 2.37 +/- 0.62 months in yearlings and 8.56 +/- 0.46 months in fillies age 4 years. In December, >50% of fillies age 2-4 years still exhibited oestrus activity and some entered anoestrus in January the following year. A small proportion of fillies age 3-4 years remained cyclic during the whole year, indicating that factors other than photoperiod can be involved in regulating seasonal cyclicity. CONCLUSIONS AND POTENTIAL RELEVANCE: Our results demonstrate the influence of seasonal factors on the onset of puberty and on the course of oestrus activity in the majority of Lipizzan fillies. However, certain exceptions were also demonstrated but reasons for the prolonged periods of oestrus activity in some Lipizzan fillies were not identified, and the role of the hormone leptin should be studied in future investigations.  相似文献
