The olive industry generates residues which can be applied as amendments to soils in their original form (olive cake) or after composting or vermicomposting processes. The addition, fresh or incubated, of these amendments to soil and of their different organic fractions was studied in relation to the sorption/desorption of three sulfonylurea herbicides, bensulfuron‐methyl, chlorsulfuron and prosulfuron. Herbicide sorption was low or very low, slightly promoted by the addition of the agricultural by‐products, especially olive cake, and mainly affected by pH of the soil solution, with the organic carbon content having no significant effect on herbicide retention. Desorption was only reduced when fresh olive cake was added. The incubation of soil and amendments for 3 months did not modify herbicide sorption, but made desorption reversible except for olive cake. The transformation of the organic matter of the amendments due to humification and maturity processes are likely to be responsible for this behaviour. Different organic fractions were removed to assess the influence of each fraction on sulfonylurea sorption. Only the removal of all studied organic fractions increased herbicide sorption, revealing the role of humin and mineral fractions in this process. Therefore, the use of organic amendments is not useful for reducing the risk of movement of ionisable molecules in soil.  相似文献

Fifteen gamma-interferon gene knockout mice were each orally inoculated with 5 x 10(3) Sarcocystis sporocysts derived from Virginia opossums (Didelphis virginiana) fed nine-banded armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus) muscle containing sarcocysts. Three mice were inoculated with similarly obtained homogenates, but in which no sporocysts were detected. Mouse M8 was pregnant when inoculated and gave birth during the trial. Fifteen of 15 (100%) mice inoculated with sporocysts developed neurologic signs and/or died by day 30 d.p.i. One of 3 (33.3%) mice inoculated with homogenates in which no sporocysts were detected developed clinical signs and died at 34 d.p.i. All young of mouse M8 had maternally acquired antibodies to Sarcocystis neurona, but none developed clinical neurologic signs or had protozoal parasites in their tissues. All brains from mice that developed clinical signs contained merozoites that reacted positively to S. neurona antibodies using immunohistochemical techniques. Evidence from this study further supports the nine-banded armadillo being an intermediate host of S. neurona.  相似文献

Five Virginia opossums (Didelphis virginiana) were fed muscles of brown-headed cowbirds (Molothrus ater) containing sarcocysts of Sarcocystis falcatula. Shedding of sporocysts was confirmed in all five opossums by fecal flotation. Counts were conducted daily for 2 weeks and then biweekly until the animals were euthanized and necropsied. The average prepatent period was 9.8 (7-16) days. The number of sporocysts shed varied greatly between the opossums with maximum mean shedding occurring at 71.6 (26-112) days post-infection (DPI). Average sporocyst production was 1480 sporocysts/gram of feces (SPG). Maximum output was 37,000 SPG. Average fecal yield in captivity was 17.5g of feces/day. Opossums shed 25,900 sporocysts/day (average) and a maximum of 647,500 sporocysts/day. All opossums shed sporocysts until time of euthanasia (46-200 DPI). Histologically, numerous sporocysts were present in the lamina propria at necropsy, primarily in the proximal half of the small intestine. Sporocysts were generally in clusters within the lamina propria of the luminal two-thirds of the villi. Sporocysts were found less frequently in the epithelium. No evidence of ongoing gametogony or other development was evident.  相似文献

Long-term agroecosystem experiments can be defined as large-scale field experiments more than 20 years old that study crop production, nutrient cycling, and environmental impacts of agriculture. They provide a resource for evaluating biological, biogeochemical, and environmental dimensions of agricultural sustainability; for predicting future global changes; and for validating model competence and performance. A systematic assessment is needed to determine the merits of all known experiments and to identify any that may exist in tropical and subtropical environments. The establishment of an international network to coordinate data collection and link sites would facilitate more precise prediction of agroecosystem sustainability and future global change.  相似文献

Nine dogs with allergic dermatitis were bathed twice weekly with a 0.01% fluocinolone shampoo for 6 months to evaluate the shampoo's effects on the adrenal–pituitary axis, serum chemistries, complete blood counts and cutaneous histology. A group of 5 normal control dogs were bathed twice weekly for 6 months with the shampoo vehicle to determine whether or not the stress of bathing would have any effects on the monitored indices. Skin biopsies were evaluated at the beginning and end of the study, and serum chemistries and serum cortisols postadrenocorticotrophic hormone administration were evaluated every 8 weeks. There was no effect of the drug over time on serum chemistries or cortisol. Individual dogs in the treatment group had decreased epidermal and dermal thickness as well as decrease in size or number of sebaceous glands after treatment. None of the dogs exhibited the combination of morphologic changes characteristic of an atrophic dermatosis due to hyperadrenocorticism.  相似文献

Atomic force microscopy was used to characterize the sliding of molybdenum oxide (MoO3) nanocrystals on single-crystal molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) surfaces. Highly anisotropic friction was observed whereby MoO3 nanocrystals moved only along specific directions of the MoS2 surface lattice. The energy per unit area to move the MoO3 nanocrystals along their preferred sliding direction was an order of magnitude less than required to slide macroscopic MoS2-bearing contacts. This extreme friction anisotropy was exploited to fabricate multicomponent MoO3 nanostructures. These reversibly interlocking structures could serve as the basis for devices such as mechanical logic gates.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to characterize cytoskeletal intermediate filament proteins and glycoconjugates of syncytiotrophoblast, cytotrophoblast and decidual cells of feline endotheliochorial placenta. Samples from 12 normal pregnant female cats, after 45 ± 5 days of gestation, were obtained removing the uterine horns by hysterectomy. Sections were processed for routine observation and for immunohistochemistry using anticytokeratin, antivimentin and antidesmin antibodies. In addition, lectin histochemistry was performed using a panel of several biotinylated lectins to characterize glycosides expression profile. Cytotrophoblast and syncytiotrophoblast showed immunoreactivity only with acidic and basic cytokeratins. Decidual cells were only positive to vimentin, consistent with their origin from endometrial fibroblasts. Trophoblast expressed a broad population of glycans, highly exposing terminal N‐acetyl glucosamine residues and non‐sialylated galactose and N‐acetyl galactosamine oligomers. Oligosaccharides bound by Phaseolus vulgaris erythroagglutinin were the only highly branched Nlinked residues evidenced in cats, and they were restricted to the syncytium. Unlike results reported on humans, mice and rats on lectin affinity of decidual cells, sialid acids and complex Nlinked oligosaccharides were not demonstrated in cats. Glycosylation of proteins determines many of their final properties, thus becoming essential for the embryo‐maternal dialogue during implantation and placentation. Changes in glycosylation pattern have been related to pathological pregnancies in other species. Hence, the knowledge about glycosylation profile of the normal cat placenta may lead to a better understanding of both normal and pathological reproductive events.  相似文献
