Growth hormone (GH) is an essential polypeptide required for the normal growth and development of vertebrates. We have studied
the effects of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) emitting different spectra (red, green, and blue) on the GH of yellowtail clownfish
Amphiprion clarkii. Full-length GH cDNA from the pituitary of the yellowtail clownfish was first cloned and then the expression of GH mRNA under
different light spectra was measured. GH mRNA expression was significantly higher under green and blue light than under red
light spectra. These results indicate that in yellowtail clownfish, short-wavelength LED enhances growth more than long-wavelength
LED, and that LED lights are more effective for enhancing growth than white fluorescent bulbs. Injection of melatonin resulted
in significantly higher expression levels of GH mRNA compared to the control. We therefore conclude that green and blue light
enhance GH levels and that melatonin plays a role in modulating growth of the yellowtail clownfish. 相似文献

The in vitro susceptibilities of 128 isolates of east1 + Escherichia coli from pre-weaned and post-weaned pigs with diarrhoea were tested with nine commonly used anti-microbial agents by an agar dilution minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) procedure according to National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards guidelines. For the isolates from preweaned and post-weaned pigs, most of them were susceptible to low concentrations (MIC90) of tetracycline (4 and 2 microg/ml), ceftiofur (2 and 2 microg/ml), and colistin (4 and 2 microg/ml). Estradiol acts as a neuroprotective factor against ischemic brain injury. This study investigated whether estradiol modulates neuroprotective mechanism through the activation of Akt and its downstream target such as Bad in global ischemic injury. Adult female gerbils were ovariectomized and treated with estradiol prior to ischemic injury. Transient cerebral ischemia was accomplished by bilateral clipping of the common carotid artery for 5 min. Brains were collected on 1, 3, 5 day after injury. In hippocampal CA1 region of non-treated gerbils, most of neuronal cells exhibited pyknotic nuclei and showed the positive reaction of TUNEL staining on 5 day after injury. However, estradiol significantly reduced the neuronal cell death. Potential activation was measured by phosphorylation of Akt at Ser473 and Bad at Ser136 using western blot analysis. The levels of pAkt and pBad were significantly decreased in non-treated gerbils on 1-5 day after injury. However, estradiol prevents the global ischemic injury-induced decrease of pAkt and pBad. Our findings suggest that estradiol prevents cell death due to global ischemic injury and that Akt activation and Bad phosphorylation by estradiol mediated these protective effects. 相似文献

Interleukin-6 (IL-6), a multifocal cytokine produced by lymphoid and non-lymphoid cells, regulates immune responses, acute-phase reactions against bacterial infections, and haematopoiesis. After cloning and sequencing of porcine IL-6, the expression pattern of porcine IL-6 mRNA was evaluated through real-time RT-PCR using porcine immune cells (spleen cells and alveolar macrophages) following stimulation with LPS. The sequence has been reported to GenBank with Accession no. AF 518322. The nucleotide sequence was different at the 89th and 205th positions in comparison with M80258, but only at the 205th with M86722. Comparison of porcine IL-6, Accession no. AF 518322, with IL-6 of human, canine, ovine, and mouse showed homologies of 78%, 81%, 82% and 73% in nucleotide sequence and 42%, 69%, 61% and 42% in amino acids. Expression of IL-6 mRNA was induced by stimulation with LPS. IL-6 mRNA expression in alveolar macrophages peaked at 2 h and decreased sharply to control levels at 4 h, whereas it peaked at 14 h and decreased at 24 h in spleen cells after stimulation with LPS (1 microg/ml). These results suggest that IL-6 mRNA expression in porcine immune cells is cell-type specific and the results of this study could be used as the basis for research on the porcine immune system. 相似文献

We fabricated high-quality c axis-oriented epitaxial MgB2 thin films using a pulsed laser deposition technique. The thin films grown on (1 i 0 2) Al2O3 substrates have a transition temperature of 39 kelvin. The critical current density in zero field is approximately 6 x 10(6) amperes per cubic centimeter at 5 kelvin and approximately 3 x 10(5) amperes per cubic centimeter at 35 kelvin, which suggests that this compound has potential for electronic device applications, such as microwave devices and superconducting quantum interference devices. For the films deposited on Al2O3, x-ray diffraction patterns indicate a highly c axis-oriented crystal structure perpendicular to the substrate surface. 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to compare direct (analog) viewing of thoracic radiographs with digitized images obtained with a radiographic scanner and seven digital cameras for detection of pulmonary nodules. Direct viewing of the analog radiographs was significantly better than all digitized methods (P<0.01). Significant variations exist between the radiographic scanner and the digital cameras. The scanner (Kodak LS75) was significantly better than the Kodak DC 4800 and the Sony DSC-707 cameras (P<0.05). The Nikon 995, Canon EOS-D30, and Ricoh i500 were significantly better than the Sony DSC-707 (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between the Kodak DC 3800, Kodak DC 4800, and the Sony DSC-707. For pairwise comparison of raters (when evaluating the radiographs individually compared with the consensus), the raters matched the consensus rating from 85% to 92% with no significant difference between raters. 相似文献

Two miniature Schnauzer dogs with chronic pancreatitis were investigated. Both dogs showed systemic hypertension and increased concentrations of triglycerides and C-reactive protein. Abdominal radiography revealed cylindrical calcification in the retroperitoneum, and computed tomography (CT) showed extensive calcification of the abdominal and peripheral arteries in both dogs. Metastases and other dystrophic conditions that can cause arterial calcification were excluded based on the laboratory tests, and the dogs were diagnosed with atherosclerosis ante mortem. Atherosclerosis should be considered when extensive arterial calcification is observed on abdominal radiography or CT in miniature Schnauzers. 相似文献

A series of composite fibers composed of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) are prepared by
varying co-flowing wet-spinning conditions such as spinning geometry and PVA concentration, which affect aligning shear stress
for MWCNTs during the wet-spinning. Then, structural features, mechanical and electrical performances of MWCNT/PVA composite
fibers are investigated as a function of the aligning shear stress of the wet-spinning process. SEM images of the composite
fibers exhibit that MWCNTs are wetted effectively with PVA chains. Polarized Raman spectra confirm that the alignment of MWCNTs
is enhanced along the composite fiber axis with increasing the aligning shear stress of the spinning process. Accordingly,
initial moduli and tensile strengths of the composite fibers are significantly increased with the increment of the aligning
shear stress. In addition, it is found that electrical conductivities of MWCNT/PVA composite fibers increase slightly with
the aligning shear stress, which is associated with the formation of efficient electrical conduction paths caused by well-aligned

The compounds that bind steroid hormone receptors including estrogen receptors (ERs), progesterone receptor (PR) or androgen receptor (AR), and induce or modulate a steroid hormone receptor-mediated response could be defined as endocrine disruptors (EDs). Currently, there are no standard methods to determine whether a chemical is an endocrine disruptor or not. Most results of in vitro and in vivo data are derived from assays that measure estrogenic activity, thus fewer data are available from assays that measure androgenic and progestogenic activities. In this review, we introduce a novel in vivo model to detect EDs using immature rats in the induction of Calbindin-D(9k) (CaBP-9k) mRNA and protein by estrogenic compounds. In addition, we summarize other biomarkers and screening methods for EDs in mammals to describe the usefulness of indicated biomarkers, although mammalian models are very few based on experimental findings. 相似文献

Twenty-eight hundred and seventy-two cases of respiratory disease in pigs were analyzed for their etiologic agents.
