ObjectiveTo compare n. facialis-m. nasolabialis (nF-mNL) and n. ulnar-mm. carpi flexorii (nU-mCF) sensitivity to vecuronium during halothane or isoflurane anaesthesia.Study designRandomized, prospective, experimental study.AnimalsForty-four client-owned dogs (19 male, 25 female) undergoing surgery; mean age: 5.0 years; mean body mass: 24.7 kg.MethodsThirty minutes after acepromazine (0.05 mg kg?1) and morphine (0.5 mg kg?1), anaesthesia was induced with intravenous (IV) thiopental and maintained with either halothane (n = 22) or isoflurane (randomly allocated) in oxygen. The lungs were mechanically ventilated and end-tidal inhaled anaesthetic (Fe’IAA) maintained at 1.2 × MAC values. Neuromuscular transmission at nF-uNL and nU-mCF was monitored using the train of four count. Vecuronium (50 μg kg?1 IV) was injected (t = 0) after 15 trains, 50-60 minutes after inhalational anaesthesia began, when Fe’IAA had been constant for >15 minutes. Times of the disappearance (-) and reappearance (+) of the fourth (T4) and first twitch (T1) were recorded allowing the calculation of: latent (t = 0 to T4-) and manifest onset times (t = 0 to T1-) duration of blockade (T1- to T1+) and drug effect (T4- to T4+) and recovery time (T1+-T4+). Student’s paired t-test was used to compare simultaneous responses at nF-uNL and nU-mCF. An unpaired t-test was used to compare anaesthetic effects.ResultsLatent and manifest onset times were significantly (p < 0.05) briefer, blockade and drug effects were significantly longer and recovery from blockade were significantly slower in the nF-mNL unit in both halothane and isoflurane recipients. Profound block duration and drug action were significantly longer and recovery from blockade were significantly slower in halothane recipients at both nerve-muscle units.Conclusion and clinical relevanceThe nF-mNL was more sensitive than nU-mCF to vecuronium, particularly in halothane-anaesthetized dogs. 相似文献

A 5-year-old, male German shepherd dog was evaluated for a 5-week history of vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and weight loss. In abdominal radiographs, there was an unusual corrugated appearance within a loop of intestine. Sonographically, this loop also had a similar corrugated appearance with alternating hyperechoic and hypoechoic bands. Lymph nodes within the abdomen and thorax were enlarged, and a thoracic mass was also detected. Ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspirates of the mesenteric lymph nodes were highly suggestive of lymphoma. After postmortem examination, a diagnosis of multicentric lymphoma with involvement of the gastrointestinal tract was made. 相似文献

Controlled cross circulation (CCC) was performed in six pairs of dogs for 45 minutes with aortic cross clamping and cardioplegia. Data were collected in donor dogs at 10 minute intervals three times before, three times during, and three times after CCC and included arterial blood pressure, pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP), central venous pressure (CVP), cardiac index (CI), heart rate (HR), blood gas analysis, temperature, maximum rate of rise of left ventricular pressure dP/dt max/End diastolic volume (EDV), blood volume (BV), complete blood count (CBC) and activated clotting times (ACT). Pulse pressure (PP), systemic vascular resistance (SVR), oxygen delivery (Do2 ), and left ventricular cardiac work (LVCW) were calculated. Arterial blood pressure, CVP, blood gas analysis, temperature, BV, CBC, and ACT were measured in recipient dogs. During CCC, donor hemodynamic changes resembled those observed in models of acute onset arteriovenous fistulas. Insidious BV shifts can occur despite the use of occlusive roller pumps. After CCC, donor hemodynamics resembled acute blood loss, characterized by decreases in mean arterial pressure (MAP), CVP, PCWP, and CI, and increases in SVR and dP/dt max/EDV. Acetabular angles (AAs) and dorsal acetabular rim angles acquired by computed tomographic (CT) imaging have been used to assess patient response to juvenile pubic symphysiodesis surgery. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of patient positioning and slice selection on these angles, and an attempt was made to devise a repeatable method of measuring these angles that would eliminate positioning effects. We found significant variation in AAs with small differences in pelvic tilt and slice selection. Dorsal acetabular rim angles were not affected. As a result of positioning differences from one CT study to the next, every attempt should be made to standardize pelvic tilt, or eliminate its effect on AAs by standardizing gantry angle in relation to an anatomic landmark that will not change over time. The floor of the sacral vertebral canal may be a reasonable landmark for this purpose and deserves further study. 相似文献

Photographic subtraction was made of 38 canine portal venograms to remove the images of the overlying abdominal structures and enhance the radiographic contrast of portal veins. The improved visual quality of the subtracted portogram aided in the detection of portosystemic shunts and intrahepatic portal veins. A 13-year old Thoroughbred cross gelding (528 kg) underwent lameness investigation. Because of his temperament, general anesthesia was required to facilitate ultrasound of the left fore fetlock and intra-articular medication of three joints. Anesthesia was induced with ketamine/diazepam after acepromazine/detomidine premedication. Anesthesia was maintained for 40 minutes with a guaifenesin/detomidine/ketamine intravenous infusion. Recovery from anesthesia was initially uneventful, although of a moderate duration (70 minutes). Once standing, the horse proceeded to box walk in an agitated state and became recumbent on two occasions. The horse was manually restrained, at which time its rectal temperature was 41.8°C. Cooling measures were employed (fans, ice-water enemas, wet rugs, intravenous fluid therapy (IVFT), and topical application of surgical spirit) until rectal temperature reached 38.7°C. IVFT was continued for a further 16 hours. Four days after recovery from anesthesia, bilateral triceps, deltoideus, trapezius, and rhomboideus muscle swelling was observed. Blood creatinine kinase was elevated (24,898 IU/L). Treatment for postanesthetic myopathy was initiated (hot packing of the muscle groups, topical dimethylsulfoxide [DMSO] cream application, and oral phenylbutazone). Myoglobinuria was not observed at any time. Muscle swelling decreased over the following 3 days. The horse was discharged on day 11 and has since returned to work. 相似文献

Analysis of individual breaths after exercise has potential for pulmonary function testing. The aims of this study were to investigate the dependence of measurements of pulmonary function in single breaths on time postexercise and tidal volume (VT) after treadmill exercise. Five Thoroughbred horses without evidence of airway disease were used. Horses had been previously acclimated to treadmill exercise and to wearing a face mask. A Quadflow spirometer recorded airflow rates continuously during 90 seconds after intense treadmill exercise to fatigue. Indices of function were based on ratios of times within each breath and analyses of the shape of relative flow–time curves within inspiration and expiration. Restricted maximum likelihood, general linear regression, repeated-measures one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and two sample t-tests were used, with statistical significance at P < .05. Time postexercise had no effect on several ratios based on time for inspiration (TI) and expiration (TE), and times to peak flows (TI/TT, TE/TT, TE/TI, Tpef [peak expiratory flow]/TE, and Tpif [peak inspiratory flow]/TI). Many variables were significantly dependent on VT. Occasional big respiratory cycles with VT more than 10% greater than in the previous breath had significantly different means for relative flow (Rf)/(TE/TI), epz50% (50% of the time from Tpef to end of expiration), epz75% (75% of the time from Tpef to end of expiration), and ipz75% (75% of the time from Tpif to end of inspiration). Predicted means for these variables differed by 10–20%. This study establishes guidelines for the selection of breaths after exercise, and describes a new approach to measurement of relative flow and time relationships. It was concluded that several time-based ratios have potential for measuring pulmonary function. However, care is needed when selecting breaths for calculation of most of the new relative flow–time variables. 相似文献

Study Design —Axial pin extraction was measured in vitro in avian bones.
Animal Population —Four cadaver red-tailed hawks and 12 live red-tailed hawks.
Methods —The pullout strength of four fixator pin designs was measured: smooth, negative profile threaded pins engaging one or two cortices and positive profile threaded pins. Part 1: Pins were placed in humeri and tibiotarsi after soft tissue removal. Part 2: Pins were placed in tibiotarsi in anesthetized hawks using slow-speed power or hand insertion.
Results —All threaded pins, regardless of pin design, had greater pullout strength than smooth pins in all parts of the study ( P < .0001). The cortices of tibiotarsi were thicker than the cortices of humeri ( P < .0001). There were few differences in pin pullout strengths between threaded pin types within or between bone groups. There were no differences between the pullout strength of pins placed by slow-speed power or by hand.
Conclusions —There is little advantage of one threaded pin type over another in avian humeri and tibiotarsi using currently available pin designs. There were few differences in pin pullout strengths between humeri and tibiotarsi bones. It is possible that the ease of hand insertion in thin cortices minimizes the potential for wobbling and therefore minimizes the difference between slow-speed drill and hand insertion methods.
Clinical Relevance —Threaded pins have superior bone holding strength in avian cortices and may be beneficial for use with external fixation devices in birds. 相似文献

Technetium-99m methoxy-isobutyl-isonitrile (sestamibi) is a radiophartnaceutical used for the evaluation of myocardial perfusion. Increased uptake of sestamibi has also been documented in tumors. The objective of this study was to document the extracardiac biodistribution of 99m Tc sestamibi in the normal dog. Nine normal beagles were given 0.35 mCi/kg 99m Tc sestamibi intravenously, and 60 second images were made of the entire body at 1 hour post injection. A defined distribution pattern was recognized, with good visualization of the heart, liver, gallbladder, small intestine, kidneys, urinary bladder, popliteal lymph nodes, parotid salivary glands and zygomatic salivary glands. Splenic uptake was not seen.
