The consumption of colostrum at a low level can compromise the survival and growth of piglets. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of farrowing induction on colostrum yield, IgG concentration and the survival and performance of piglets until the weaning. Sows of parity 3 to 7 were assigned into two groups: Control (n = 48), sows with spontaneous farrowing; and induction (n = 48), sows induced to farrow on day 114 of gestation with a PGF2 analogue. Colostrum and blood samples were collected from the sows, at farrowing and 24 hr later. Blood samples from the piglets were collected at 24 hr after birth. The performance of the piglets was evaluated in a subsample of 28 litters from each group. All piglets were weighed at 7, 14 and 20 days of age. The farrowing length, the number of piglets born alive, stillborn piglets, weight at birth, litter weight at birth and colostrum yield were not significantly affected (p > .05) by farrowing induction. There was no difference between the groups (p > .05) in the percentage of sows with obstetric interventions. Serum IgG concentration, in both sows and piglets, and colostrum IgG concentration were similar between the groups (p > .05). Furthermore, survival rate, piglet weight and litter weight at 7, 14 and 20 days of age were also similar between the groups (p > .05). Therefore, it can be concluded that the farrowing induction performed on day 114 of gestation does not affect the colostrum yield, the IgG concentration in colostrum and serum of piglets, and the litter performance until the weaning. 相似文献

An experiment was performed to determine the effects of adding municipal solid waste (MSW) and poultry manure (PM) to a soil polluted with chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), and Cr + Pb on the biological parameters of the soil. Soil was mixed with two solutions of Cr(NO3)3 and/or Pb(NO3)2 to give three concentrations (0, 100, and 250 mg Cr kg?1 soil and 0, 100, and 250 mg Pb kg?1 soil) and treated with MSW or PM. When the soil was contaminated with the metals without combining, the greatest adenosine triphosphate (ATP), urease, and phosphatase inhibition percentages occurred for 250 mg Pb kg?1 soil. When the heavy metals were mixed, the inhibition of the biochemical parameters increased. The application of MSW and PM decreased the inhibition of the biochemical parameters and microbial population in the polluted soils. The inhibition percentage was greater for the soil amended with MSW than with PM, possibly due to the high humic acid concentration. 相似文献

A 6-year-old spayed female domestic shorthair cat with a 3-week history of inappetence, weight loss, and hiding was examined. A palpable abdominal fluid wave, dehydration, and a small tear on the left flank were noted during initial examination. When the cat was gently restrained for blood sampling, the skin on the dorsal neck tore, leaving a 15 cm x 7 cm flap of skin. Clinicopathological abnormalities included nonregenerative anaemia, hypoalbuminaemia, increased globulin concentration, and mildly elevated aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase activities. Abdominal fluid was viscous and had a total protein of 5.3 g dL(-1) with 316 cells microL(-1), consistent with a modified transudate. Cytology of the abdominal fluid revealed 86% nondegenerate neutrophils, 13% macrophages, and 1% small lymphocytes. Histopathological evaluation and indirect immunohistochemistry confirmed a diagnosis of feline infectious peritonitis, hepatic lipidosis and feline skin fragility syndrome. Feline skin fragility syndrome has not previously been reported in association with feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). Its inclusion as a clinical sign associated with FIP may facilitate a diagnosis. 相似文献

A kinetic study of the alkylating potential of potassium sorbate (S)-a food preservative used worldwide-in 7:3 water/dioxane medium was performed. The following conclusions were drawn: (i) Potassium sorbate shows alkylating activity on the nucleophile 4-(p-nitrobenzyl)pyridine (NBP), a trap for alkylating agents with nucleophilic characteristics similar to those of DNA bases, (ii) The NBP alkylation reaction complies with the rate equation r = k(alk)[H+][S][NBP]/(K(a) + [H+]), K(a) being the sorbic acid dissociation constant and k(alk) the rate constant of NBP alkylation by the undissociated acid. In the range of pH 5-6, the alkylation time ranges between 18 days (pH 5.2) and >1 month (pH > or = 6). (iii) NBP alkylation occurs through a reaction with deltaH# = 78 kJ mol(-1), which is much higher than those of NBP alkylation by stronger alkylating agents. (iv) The absorption coefficient of the sorbate-NBP adduct was determined to be epsilon = 204 M(-1) cm(-1) (lambda = 580 nm), this value being rationalized in terms of the adduct structure. Concentrations of PCBs, PCDDs, and PCDFs, heavy metals (Cu, Cd, Zn, Pb, and Hg), and arsenic have been determined in a great variety of food samples purchased in different markets across the city of Huelva, located in southwestern Spain and under strong industrial activity. All samples analyzed presented concentrations below the maximum allowed by the European Community regarding PCDD/Fs, with the exception of samples within the meat group. An estimation of the daily intake resulted in 1.15 pg of WHO(PCDD/Fs)-TEQ/kg of body weight/day for a 70 kg person and 2.63 pg of WHO-TEQ/kg of body weight/day when PCBs were included, therefore accounting for a similar or even higher percentage than PCDD/Fs and showing the importance of their inclusion in monitoring studies. Meat and meat products, together with vegetable oils and dairy products, were the major food groups contributing to the estimated daily intake. For heavy metals and arsenic, the concentrations found were under the value proposed by European regulations, and estimated daily intakes were well below those proposed by the WHO for all metals investigated. PAHs have been analyzed in food samples from marine origin, values ranging from 8.22 to 71.4 ng/g of fresh weight. Pyrene was the most abundant compound, accounting for >80% in the samples investigated. The most carcinogenic PAHs, such as benzo[a]pyrene and dibenz[a,h]anthracene, were in all cases below the limits of detection. The low field region (5.8-9.0 ppm) corresponding to aromatic protons and the region 1.8-3.0 ppm of the (1)H NMR spectra were used for characterization and chemometric differentiation of 52 apple juices obtained from six cider apple varieties. The data set consisted of 14 integrated areas corresponding to resonances from acids and phenolic compounds. Multivariate procedures based on hierarchical cluster and discriminant analysis were performed on selected signals of the spectra to determine whether it was possible to distinguish the different juices. Cluster analysis was able to satisfactorily classify the six apple varieties. Discriminant analysis, by means of stepwise procedure for variables selection and leave-one-out for cross-validation, was applied to 40 samples from the year 2001, obtaining recognition and prediction abilities of 100%. The most discriminant variables corresponded to poliphenols, (-)-epicatechin, phloridzin-phloretin, and p-coumaric, chlorogenic, and malic acids. The classification model was applied to 12 samples from apples harvested in the years 2002 and 2003, and the prediction ability was 91.7%. 相似文献

Muscadine (Vitis rotundifolia) grape juice was assessed for color and phytochemical stability as influenced by anthocyanin copigmentation with a water-soluble rosemary extract, fortification with ascorbic acid, and processing by heat or high hydrostatic pressure (HHP). The roles of polyphenolic cofactors in the presence and in the absence of ascorbic acid were assessed as a means to improve the overall processing stability of the juice. Addition of rosemary extract from 0 to 0.4% (v/v) readily formed copigment complexes with anthocyanins and resulted in concentration-dependent hyperchromic shifts from 10 to 27% that corresponded to increased antioxidant activity. The presence of ascorbic acid was generally detrimental to juice quality, especially in the presence of rosemary extract, and resulted in overall anthocyanin, ascorbic acid, and antioxidant activity losses. Although thermal and high-pressure processing methods were detrimental to juice quality, HHP resulted in greater losses after processing, likely due to action from residual oxidase enzymes. Although physicochemical attributes were enhanced by copigmentation with rosemary extract, methods to inactivate residual enzymes should be addressed prior to copigmentation to prevent degradation of anthocyanins in the presence of ascorbic acid. 相似文献

Native beta-lactoglobulin binds and increases the activity of Kluyveromyces lactis beta-galactosidase. Construction of a three-dimensional (3D) model of beta-lactoglobulin showed that lysine residues 15, 47, 69, and 138 are the most exposed ones, thus the ones more likely to interact with beta-galactosidase. Molecular docking estimated the interaction energies of amino acid residues with either lactose or succinic anhydride, showing that Lys(138) is the most likely to react with both. Affinity chromatography demonstrated that succinylated beta-lactoglobulin diminished its ability to bind to the enzyme. Furthermore, when activity was measured in the presence of succinylated beta-lactoglobulin, its activating effect was lost. Since succinylation specifically blocks Lys epsilon-amino groups, their loss very likely causes the disappearance of the activating effect. Results show that the activating effect of beta-lactoglobulin on beta-galactosidase activity is due to the interaction between both proteins and that this interaction is very likely to occur through the Lys epsilon-amino groups of beta-lactoglobulin. 相似文献
