Summary This report examines the relationship between seedling vigor, -amylase enzyme activity and -amylase mRNA accumulation in ten varieties of rice (Oryza sativa L.) grown at two temperatures (15°C and 30°C). A significant, positive correlation was observed between seedling vigor, -amylase enzyme activity, and the accumulation of mRNA from one rice -amylase gene (RAmy1A) at both temperature regimens. The results of this study support previous experiments which have correlated -amylase enzyme activity to seedling vigor. We have extended this correlation to the expression of one of ten genes that comprise the rice -amylase multigene family. These results suggest that the expression of -amylase gene RAmy1A is an important, and possibly rate-limiting factor in determining seedling vigor in rice. 相似文献

Cerebrovascular disease results from any pathological process of the blood vessels supplying the brain. Stroke, characterised by its abrupt onset, is the third leading cause of death in humans. This rare condition in dogs is increasingly being recognised with the advent of advanced diagnostic imaging. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the first choice diagnostic tool for stroke, particularly using diffusion-weighted images and magnetic resonance angiography for ischaemic stroke and gradient echo sequences for haemorrhagic stroke. An underlying cause is not always identified in either humans or dogs. Underlying conditions that may be associated with canine stroke include hypothyroidism, neoplasia, sepsis, hypertension, parasites, vascular malformation and coagulopathy. Treatment is mainly supportive and recovery often occurs within a few weeks. The prognosis is usually good if no underlying disease is found. 相似文献

Giardia intestinalis cysts were detected in faeces from 12.9% of 124 brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula) trapped in Auckland, Hawke's Bay, the Wairarapa and Wellington; in faecal material from 61.0% of 77 ship rats (Rattus rattus) from areas of Auckland, Hawke's Bay and Wellington; and in faecal material from 25.3% of 182 house mice (Mus musculus) from the North Island. Further studies were made using C57 mice pretreated with a corticosteroid and inoculated with Moraxella bovis by instillation, as a model for infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis. Strains of M bovis which had previously been tested in cattle produced a generally similar range of pathogenicity when tested in mice. The pathology in the mouse model closely resembled that in cattle and the value of the model for studies on M bovis was confirmed. 相似文献
