ABSTRACT

Brassica seed meal amendments and anaerobic soil disinfestation (ASD) control a spectrum of soil-borne plant pathogens via a diversity of mechanisms. Transformations in microbial community structure and function in certain instances were determinants of disease control and enhanced plant performance. For instance, in strawberry field soils, increased strawberry yields in response to ASD were attained in a carbon-source input-dependent manner. ASD conducted with rice bran as the carbon input, but not molasses, resulted in significantly greater yields. Effective ASD treatments, but not ineffective treatments, resulted in increased abundance of bacteria in phylum Bacteroidetes in treated soils, specific genera of which are known to provide biological disease control. Brassica seed meal amendment resulted in development of a soil system suppressive towards disease incited by the root pathogen Macrophomina phaseolina. Brassica seed meal treated orchard soil systems exhibit resistance to re-infestation by soil-borne pathogens, including the plant parasitic nematode Pratylenchus penetrans. System resistance is associated with significant and prolonged changes in rhizosphere microbiology and specifically amplification of specific organisms with potential to parasitize P. penetrans.  相似文献

Lead (Pb) shot were administered orally to young chickens to determine the effects on red blood cells (RBCs). The concentrations of Pb in the blood of young chickens rose rapidly after Pb administration and were maintained at high levels for several days. The number of RBCs with pycnotic nuclei, reticulocytes and enucleated RBCs increased concurrently. Pycnotic nuclei were surrounded by enlarged nucleolemmal cisternae, which sometimes opened to the extracellular space. Gel electrophoresis showed that the presence of pycnotic nuclei was not associated with DNA fragmentation typical of apoptosis. It was concluded that exposure to lead shot changes nuclear morphology in the peripheral blood of domestic fowl.  相似文献

Industry acceptance of alternative sulphite treatments for preventing blackspot in prawns is limited. This study demonstrated that dipping prawns (Penaeus monodon and Fenneropenaeus merguiensis) in a less concentrated solution for longer times provides better control of blackspot formation than the recommended 2 minute dip in 50 mg/L 4-hexylresorcinol. Protection improved as modified dipping times and solution concentrations increased. Blackspot protection provided by most of the modified dip methods was more effective than a 1 minute dip in 1% sodium metabisulphite. The recommended 2 minute dip method should be limited to 125 kg when used on consecutive 25-kg batches of prawns. Yields increased by less than 10% even after 72-hour exposure in the modified dip. The new dipping method meets most international residue standards when applying the modified treatments evaluated.  相似文献

Seven kinds of angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory peptides were isolated from the hydrolysates of wakame (Undaria pinnatifida) by Protease S "Amano" (from Bacillus stearothermophilus) by using three-step high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) on a reverse-phase column. These peptides were identified by amino acid composition analysis, sequence analysis, and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), as Val-Tyr (IC(50) = 35.2 microM), Ile-Tyr (6.1 microM), Ala-Trp (18.8 microM), Phe-Tyr (42.3 microM), Val-Trp (3.3 microM), Ile-Trp (1.5 microM), and Leu-Trp (23.6 microM). These peptides have resistance against gastrointestinal proteases in vitro. Each peptide was determined to have an antihypertensive effect after a single oral administration in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). Among them, the blood pressure significantly decreased by Val-Tyr, Ile-Tyr, Phe-Tyr, and Ile-Trp in a dose of 1 mg/kg of body weight (BW). The present study showed that antihypertensive effect in the hydrolysates of wakame by Protease S "Amano" was attributed to these peptides.  相似文献

A global map of human impact on marine ecosystems   总被引:12,自引:0,他引:12  
The management and conservation of the world's oceans require synthesis of spatial data on the distribution and intensity of human activities and the overlap of their impacts on marine ecosystems. We developed an ecosystem-specific, multiscale spatial model to synthesize 17 global data sets of anthropogenic drivers of ecological change for 20 marine ecosystems. Our analysis indicates that no area is unaffected by human influence and that a large fraction (41%) is strongly affected by multiple drivers. However, large areas of relatively little human impact remain, particularly near the poles. The analytical process and resulting maps provide flexible tools for regional and global efforts to allocate conservation resources; to implement ecosystem-based management; and to inform marine spatial planning, education, and basic research.  相似文献

Tomato and strawberry are the most important protected crops in Lebanon and are seriously affected by grey mould disease, caused by Botrytis cinerea. In the present study, the fungicide sensitivity assays revealed medium to high frequencies of B. cinerea isolates resistant to benzimidazoles, dicarboximides, and anilinopyrimidines on tomato and strawberry. Fludioxonil- and boscalid-resistant mutants were uncommonly found at generally low frequency on both crops. Resistance to fenhexamid was detected in only one site on tomato but in most sites on strawberry with high frequencies, and the occurrence of resistance to QoI fungicides was ascertained on both crops. The majority of the tested isolates (>90%) exhibited multiple fungicide resistance, and isolates resistant to the seven antibotrydial fungicide classes were detected on strawberry in three locations. A high level of resistance was shown by B. cinerea mutants resistant to boscalid, fenhexamid, and QoI fungicides, while two levels of moderate and high resistance to anilinopyrimidines were identified. Genetic analysis revealed point mutations in the target genes commonly associated with resistance in B. cinerea isolates, with all mutants resistant to dicarboximides, fenhexamid, boscalid, and QoI fungicides carrying single-nucleotide polymorphims in BcOS1 (I365S/N, Q369P, and N373S), Erg27 (F412V/I), SdhB (H272R/Y), and cytb (G143A) genes, respectively. The general incorrect use of fungicides has caused the development and spread of fungicide resistance as a widespread phenomenon on protected tomato and strawberry in Lebanon. The implementation of appropriate antiresistance strategies is highly recommended.  相似文献

The response of isolated hepatocytes of Sparus aurata to hypotonic stress was studied by the aid of videometric methods with the aim to investigate the possible involvement of ATP in the regulatory volume decrease (RVD). This study confirms our previous observations showing the ability of these cells to undergo RVD. In addition, it shows that the homeostatic response was inhibited by apyrase, an ATP scavenger, thus suggesting the involvement of extracellular ATP in the RVD response. Experiments performed in the presence of ATPγS or adenosine, agonists of P2 and P1 receptors respectively, and in the presence of suramin or 8-PT, antagonists of P2 and P1 receptors respectively, suggest that ATP exerts its stimulatory effect on the homeostatic response by interacting with P2 receptors. On the other hand, the activation of P1 receptors by ATP metabolites produces opposite effects. In an attempt to clarify the mechanisms involved in ATP release from the cell, we performed some experiments with known inhibitors of the possible mechanisms of regulated ATP release. The results we obtained let us to suppose that the mechanism allowing the exit of ATP from the cell is verapamil sensitive suggesting the involvement of the P-glycoprotein.  相似文献

A method for evaluating the potential threat of selection for resistance to organically-based fungicides in populations of P. viticola is needed to screen a large panel of products alternative to copper in organic viticulture. Populations from an unexposed plot were compared throughout one season with a population sprayed with azoxystrobin (Quadris), reported as engendering selection pressure and resistance, and a population sprayed with an organically-based fungicide (Mycosan). The evolution of the three populations was followed with neutral specific SSR markers and with the specific marker for strobilurin resistance, as control of selection for resistant mutants. A reduction in genetic diversity of the P. viticola population was observed in the population sprayed with azoxystrobin, consistent with directional selection toward higher resistance, confirmed by an enhanced frequency of resistant mutants with respect to the unexposed population. In contrast, a higher diversity and a reduced frequency of resistant mutants were observed in the population sprayed with the organically-based fungicide. Assessing a reduction of genotypic diversity allows the detection of selection for resistance and constitutes a valid instrument for screening a large panel of products with non-specific, different and possibly indirect modes of action.  相似文献
