The effect of the porcine myogenin (Myog) 3' polymorphism on birth weight, growth rate, carcass weight, lean weight, lean meat percentage and back-fat thickness has been investigated in Hungarian Large White pigs. MYOG genotypes were determined by PCR-RFLP assay. The obtained MYOGA frequency value was 0.6275. Due to the small number of BB piglets the effect of the MYOG genotypes on birth weight was not significant; however, an increasing tendency was observed from genotype AA to BB. The growth rate difference between MYOG genotypes was significant: BB animals showed the highest growth rate values during the fattening period. Since few results are available on the possible use of MYOG gene polymorphism in selection to improve carcass and growth traits, by this study the authors hope to provide additional data on this particular subject. 相似文献
Lasiurus sindicus is a highly nutritive, drought tolerant, perennial grass, endemic to the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, India. In order to characterize the diversity of bacteria associated with roots of this grass that had survived severe drought stress, 16S-rRNA gene clone libraries were established from RT-PCR amplified products of the total RNA extracted from the washed roots and rhizosphere soil samples. Eight major bacterial taxa were identified in a total of 121 16S-rRNA gene clones. The majority of sequences belonged to Gram-positive bacteria, Actinobacteria being the most predominant ones, closely followed by Firmicutes. Most of the sequences showed similarity with sequences from cultivated bacteria or uncultivated environmental clones associated with arid, semi-arid environments, cold deserts and contaminated soils. PCR amplification of nifH genes using total DNA as template produced a total of 48 nifH clones from the rhizosphere soil and root samples and revealed a predominance of nifH sequences closely affiliated to Pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes, isolated in a previous study from root samples of Lasiurus sindicus. Some nifH sequences showed close similarity to cultivated diazotrophs like Azospirillum brasilense, Rhizobium sp., and a variety of uncultured nitrogen fixing bacteria. The aim of this study was to detect three triazine pesticides and their metabolites in the drip water and the sediment of the Amaterska cave system. Diversity of the bacterial community in the sediment was also assessed, and the potential role of bacteria in degradation of these pesticides was evaluated.
Materials and methods
Triazines and their metabolites were analyzed in the soil, drip water, and sediment of the Amaterska cave system area in seven sampling sites (S1–S7) based on the above ground cover that included forest, permanent grassland, and agriculture cropland. The bacterial community in the cave sediments (S1–S6) was also analyzed using the Illumina sequencing of the V3 and V4 regions of 16S rDNA.
Results and discussion
Triazines were present in the soil and drip water in all sites below grassland and agricultural land but not under the forest area. Only atrazine metabolites were detected in the surface soil. In contrast, atrazine was detected in all cave sediments regardless of above ground cover, and this is likely due to the occasional alluvial influx. The overall prevalence of bacteria potentially capable of atrazine degradation in the cave sediment ranged from 13.4 to 64.0% of the entire bacterial community. The concentrations of atrazine in the cave sediment were 16 to 70 times higher than in those in drip water.
Conclusions
High concentrations of atrazine in the cave sediment indicate a slow degradation rate of triazines in the cave likely due to low temperatures and absence of photolysis. The main source of atrazine in the Amaterska cave system is likely not drip water but the alluvial influx. Bacteria potentially capable of triazine degradation in the cave sediment were detected; however, their role in this process remains to be investigated.
Since the electric tools are increasingly entering the field of forestry, the aim of this study was to establish the consequences of using electric powered chainsaws on work and its energy efficiency, as well as health of workers. For this purpose, 40 trees were felled in two young spruce stands, half with a cordless electric chainsaw and one half with a petrol chainsaw. Results showed that electric chainsaws are a good alternative to petrol chainsaws for use in small-scale forestry, since in terms of work efficiency their use is comparable to petrol chainsaws and they provide a lower level of energy consumption, and lower exposure of fellers to noise and hand-arm vibrations. Similar to other fields, the results confirmed a positive impact of hand toll electrification on man and environment. The development of electric tools for forestry is expected to intensify with the development of more powerful batteries which are currently still regarded as the major bottleneck. 相似文献
Wind throw is a common disturbance in forest ecosystems. Because many forests are intensively used our knowledge on forest
dynamics after such disturbances is limited. In the Bavarian Forest National Park/Germany after the wind throw event in summer
1983, we started our long-term observation in nearly natural Norway spruce forests within 5-year intervals up to 2010. A part
of the affected stands was cleared, while another part was left untouched for natural development. Here, we focused on the
tree species regeneration, using an individual-based approach. We expected that tree species regeneration in both management
types would follow different succession pathways. Indeed, we found different regeneration characteristics, depending on whether
the area had been cleared or left unmanaged. For example, for the target species Norway spruce, a chronic regeneration during
the first two decades with low numbers, but a high survival rate of individuals, and for the pioneer species birch, pulse
regeneration with high numbers of individuals only at the beginning and high individual loss during the following years occurred.
Unmanaged and cleared wind throw areas, respectively, offer different quantities of micro-sites: the pit and mound structure
as mineral soil disturbance was limited to less than 1/4 in the untouched area, whereas there was mineral soil disturbance
more or less everywhere on the cleared parts. Type and intensity of disturbance allow a wide range of succession pathways
after wind throw, based on the fundamental processes of germination and competition. Therefore, for protection area management
as well as for forest management, the human activity immediately after the event is crucial. Because each management impact
will change the succession pathway fundamentally any impact has to be omitted in protection areas with the main goal of natural
vegetation succession. Also in managed forests abdication of any impact on small areas may improve the natural structures

A common quail (Coturnix coturnix) from a private keeping died unexpectedly and showed a moderate lymphocytic infiltration of the colonic mucosa associated with numerous protozoa-like objects at the pathological examination. These organisms were further identified using chromogenic in situ hybridization (ISH) and gene sequencing. ISH was performed on paraffin embedded tissue sections and produced a positive signal using a probe specific for the 18S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene of the order Trichomonadida, but remained negative with probes specific for the 18S rRNA gene of the common bird parasites Histomonas meleagridis, Tetratrichomonas gallinarum or Trichomonas gallinae. The trichomonads were found on the mucosal surface, inside the crypts and also immigrating into the lamina propria mucosae. DNA was extracted from the paraffin embedded tissue and the entire 18S rRNA gene, ITS-1 region, 5.8S rRNA gene, ITS-2 region and a part of the 28S rRNA gene were sequenced using primer walking. The acquired sequence showed 95% homology with Tritrichomonas foetus, a trichomonad never described in birds. A phylogenetic analysis of a part of the 18S rRNA gene or of the ITS-1, 5.8S and ITS-2 region clearly placed this nucleotide sequence within the family of Tritrichomonadidae. Three different parasites of the phylum Parabasala (Tritrichomonas foetus, Trichomitus rotunda and Tetratrichomonas buttreyi) have been described in pigs. In a previous study (Mostegl et al., 2011) approximately 47% of 91 paraffin wax-embedded intestinal samples of pigs which were Trichomonas-positive by in situ hybridization using a probe with a broad reactivity spectrum contained other species than T. foetus. Out of these, intestinal trichomonads from three pigs (pigs 1-3) were further analyzed by gene sequencing of a part of the 18S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene using primer walking. Subsequently, the partial sequences achieved by the different primer pairs were combined to a sequence of about 1000 bp for each trichomonad. In all three pigs unique sequences were acquired which showed only moderate similarities to sequences available in the GenBank. Alignments and the BLAST analysis showed a high degree of homology between sequences of trichomonads from pig 1 and pig 3 with only 1% difference. These sequences were found to be 92% similar to Hypotrichomonas acosta, a trichomonad isolated from squamate reptiles. The trichomonad sequence detected in the intestine of pig 2 showed about 10% nucleotide differences compared to pigs 1 and 3. This sequence was 97% similar to two Trichomitus batrachorum (a frog symbiont) sequences. A phylogenetic analysis using the neighbor-joining and maximum likelihood methods supported the data of the BLAST analysis.
