The investigations were carried out on 37 skulls from the Van-Yoncatepe early Iron Age necropolis (in eastern Anatolia) (first group) and 11 skulls from the scythians castle from Bileskoje Iron Age (second group). The major distance between both occipital condyles and both bases of the jugular processes, the major width of the foramen magnum, height of the foramen magnum, height of the skull, height of the occipital triangle and the length of the dorsal notch were measured. A dorsal notch was present in seven dogs (six male and one female) from Van-Yoncatepe. The average length of the dorsal notch was 2.5 mm. The investigation states that the dorsal notch occurred in dogs from the Iron Age. This anatomical formation had no association with their death. 相似文献
1.?An experiment determined the effect of 6 different lysine concentrations (40, 52, 58, 65, 90 and 130 g/kg CP) in two protein concentrations (210 and 260 g/kg) on the efficiency of energy utilisation of broiler chickens and turkeys. Ninety-six male Ross 308 broiler chicks and 96 male BUT Big 6 turkey poults were fed at 90% of ad libitum during a 12 d bioassay period. At the end of the bioassay, birds were slaughtered and carcase crude protein, fat and gross energy were measured and nutrient metabolisability determined.
2.?Broiler chickens had lower AME and AMEN than turkeys. AME was higher in the 260 g/kg than in the 210 g/kg protein diet; however, no difference was evident in AMEN between any of the diets in both species. A significant species × lysine interaction indicated that the decrease in AME and AMEN with increasing lysine was greater in turkeys than in broiler chickens.
3.?Turkeys had lower weight gains and efficiencies of energy retention than broiler chickens. The effects of different lysine concentrations on growth and the efficiency of energy retention were significant and growth responses were quadratic but there were negative linear responses in the efficiency of energy retention in both species at both crude protein concentrations. The efficiency of energy retention was increased with decreasing lysine concentrations throughout the wide range of concentrations used in the experiment. 相似文献
Objective To investigate the relationship of the iridocorneal angle as it appears on ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) to increases in IOP post-phacoemulsification in the canine eye. Animals studied 47 eyes of 28 dogs of various age, sex, and breed. Methods The ciliary process and limbus were used as a reference points to measure the angle opening distance (AOD), which was set by multiplying 0.45 by the distance between the ciliary process and limbus (when measured from the ciliary process). Pressure measurements were taken at five set points: Before, immediately post-, one day post-, 1 week post-, and 1 month post-phacoemulsification. Results A weak relationship between the AOD and the IOP one day post-phacoemulsification (Intercept: 2.83, Slope: –1.24, P -value: 0.0155) was observed. No relationship immediately post-operative (Intercept: 3.45, Slope: –1.34, P -value: 0.0651), 1 week post-phacoemulsification (Intercept: 2.31, Slope: –0.01, P -value: 0.9829), 1 month post-phacoemulsification (Intercept: 1.85, Slope: –0.49, P -value: 0.1533) was observed. The pre-operative measurements made with UBM were: Distance from limbus to ciliary process (DLCP): (Minimum: 1.152, Maximum: 2.992, Mean: 1.91, SD: 0.468); AOD (Minimum: 0.104, Maximum: 0.764, Mean: 0.40, SD: 0.172). Conclusions The relationship between AOD as measured by UBM pre-operatively is weakly associated with IOP pressure elevations at day one post-phacoemulsification. Further study is required prospectively to establish the importance of this relationship. Initial measurements of the canine iridocorneal angle were created, suggesting a method to be used in the future to establish true canine normal measurements. 相似文献
An approximately eight-year-old female grey parrot (Psittacus erithacus erithacus) was presented with a two months history of blindness. The radiographic examination showed a dilatation of the proventriculus, ventriculus and gut. Ophthalmoscopy and electroretinography revealed degeneration of the retina. A proventricular dilatation disease was suspected. The bird was euthanased because of deteriorating condition and poor prognosis. The pathological examination showed an atrophy of the ventricular muscles and lymphoplasmacytic infiltrates of the myenteric plexus of the proventriculus, ventriculus and gut as well as moderate lymphoplasmacytic infiltrates of the cerebrum with moderate neuronophagia. Lymphoplasmacytic infiltrates in the retina, indicating proventricular dilatation disease, and subsequent retinal degeneration were found. A potential common aetiology for proventricular dilatation disease and blindness is discussed. 相似文献
The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of supplementation of a microencapsulated blend of tributyrin and lactitol (TL) to a standard European (EU) diet without antibiotic growth promoters on intestinal metabolism and mucosa development of weaned piglets and to compare it with a standard US diet containing animal proteins, zinc oxide, copper sulfate, and carbadox. Ninety piglets weaned at 21 d were divided into 3 dietary groups consisting of 5 replicates each: 1) US diet supplemented with 55 mg/kg of carbadox, and 2.5% each of plasma proteins and spray-dried blood cells in the first phase, 3,055 mg/kg of Zn in the first and second phases, and 180 mg/kg of Cu in the third phase; 2) EU diet based on vegetable proteins and no antibiotics; and 3) the same EU diet supplemented with 3,000 mg/kg of microencapsulated TL. The study was divided into 3 phases: 0 to 7, 8 to 21, and 22 to 35 d. On d 7, 21, and 35, animals were weighed, and feed consumption and efficiency were determined. On d 14 and 35, one pig per pen was killed, and the intestinal contents and mucosa from the proximal, middle, distal jejunum and the ileum were sampled. Intestinal wall sections were fixed for histological analysis, and intestinal content was used for VFA, ammonia, and polyamine analysis. Throughout the study (d 0 to 35), the US diet had greater ADG and ADFI than the EU diet (P < 0.05). The EU diet supplemented with TL tended to have 11% greater ADG (P = 0.17). Feeding the EU diet caused a reduction in proximal and middle jejunum villi length by 10% (P < 0.05) and an increase in crypt size in proximal jejunum (P < 0.05) compared with the US diet, probably due to an increased rate of cell loss and crypt cell production. The TL supplementation resulted in longer villi along the jejunum and less deep crypts in the proximal jejunum (+15.9 and -8.9%, respectively; P < 0.05) than the unsupplemented EU diet. The TL diet increased the concentrations of cadaverine and putrescine in the small intestine (P < 0.05) and seemed to increase cadaverine, histamine, putrescine, and spermine in the large intestine by 1.5- to 10-fold compared with the US or EU diet. In conclusion, although the US diet had a greater effect on growth performance and mucosal trophic status than the EU diets, the supplementation with slowly released TL seemed to be an effective tool to partially overcome the adverse effects of vegetable protein diets. 相似文献
A real-time fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) PCR combined with a melting curve analysis was developed for the detection of Opisthorchis viverrini in its fish intermediate host, cyprinoid fishes. Real-time FRET PCR is based on a fluorescence melting curve analysis of a hybrid between an amplicon generated from a family of repeated DNA elements, the pOV-A6 specific probe sequence (Genbank Accession No. S80278), a 162bp repeated sequence specific to O. viverrini, and specific fluorophore-labeled probes. The real-time FRET PCR could detect as little as a single metacercaria artificially inoculated in 30 fish samples. The O. viverrini infected fishes were distinguished from non-infected fishes and from the genomic DNA of other parasites by their melting temperature. Sensitivity and specificity of this method were both 100% in the laboratory setting and it outperformed the microscopic method on field-collected samples as well. Melting curve analysis is a rapid, accurate, and sensitive alternative for the specific detection of O. viverrini infected fishes. It allows a high throughput and can be performed on small samples. The assay has not only great potential for epidemiological surveys of fish intermediate hosts but it could also be adapted as screening tool for a range of foodborne parasites in freshwater fishes. 相似文献
