Resveratrol is known as a grapevine secondary metabolite with fungicide activity. Its exogenous application on harvested grapes resulted in the reduction of microbial flora growth, and consequently, prolonged shelf life, without affecting the nutritional quality of the fruit. Resveratrol treatment also resulted in being effective on fruit that normally does not accumulate such metabolites as, for example, tomatoes, apples, avocado pears, and peppers. As a result, all treated fruits maintained their post-harvest quality and health longer than the untreated ones. This study demonstrates the potential use of resveratrol as a natural pesticide to reduce post-harvest fungi development on a broad spectrum of fruit types. 相似文献

In this paper we report the antioxidant activity of different compounds which are present in coffee or are produced as a result of the metabolism of this beverage. In vitro methods such as the ABTS*+ [ABTS = 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)] decolorization assay and the oxygen radical absorbance capacity assay (ORAC) were used to assess the capacity of coffee compounds to scavenge free radicals. The importance of caffeine metabolites and colonic metabolites in the overall antioxidant activity associated with coffee consumption is shown. Colonic metabolites such as m-coumaric acid and dihydroferulic acid showed high antioxidant activity. The ability of these compounds to protect human low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation by copper and 2,2'-azobis(2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride was also explored. 1-Methyluric acid was particularly effective at inhibiting LDL oxidative modification. Different experiments showed that this caffeine metabolite is not incorporated into LDL particles. However, at physiologically relevant concentrations, it was able to delay for more than 13 h LDL oxidation by copper. 相似文献

An intense proteolysis of muscle proteins, mainly due to the action of endogenous proteolytic enzymes, has been reported to occur during the processing of dry-cured ham. This gives rise to an important generation of free amino acids and peptides of small size that contribute directly or indirectly to flavor characteristics of the final product. The nature and properties of the free amino acids generated during postmortem proteolysis have been well established. However, little is known about the identity of peptides generated during the processing of dry-cured ham. In the present paper, we describe the isolation (by ethanol precipitation followed by size exclusion and reverse phase chromatographies) and identification (by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight MS and collision-induced dissociation MS/MS) in a Spanish dry-cured ham of the following four oligopeptides: (A) TKQEYDEAGPSIVHR, (B) ITKQEYDEAGPSIVHRK, (C) DSGDGVTHNVPIYE, and (D) DSGDGVTHNVPIYEG. This is the first time that these peptide fragments have been reported in dry-cured ham at the end of processing. Sequence homology analysis revealed that the four peptides originated from muscle actin, indicating an extensive hydrolysis of this protein during dry-curing. Some of the cleavage sites corresponding to these fragments in actin were reproduced by other authors through the incubation of this myofibrillar protein in the presence of cathepsin D (EC 3.4.23.5), thus supporting a relevant action of this enzyme during the processing of dry-cured ham. 相似文献

Earthworm populations were studied in three tropical agroecosystems of southern Mexico: improved maize with a Mucuna pruriens cover crop (MM), continuous conventional maize (CM) and pastures (P). Three replicates and six monoliths were sampled in each agroecosystem. Three earthworm species were found, two native (Balanteodrilus pearsei, Larsonidrilus orbiculatus) and one exotic (Polypheretima elongata). In all systems, the dominant species was B. pearsei, with negligible presence of the exotic species in MM and P plots. Total abundance was significantly higher in MM than in CM; and earthworm biomass was also higher in MM than in CM and P. Juveniles of both native species dominated, mainly concentrated in the top 20 cm of soil. B. pearsei and L. orbiculatus displayed different preferences (within each agroecosystem) for soil organic matter, N and temperature. Further experiments are required to investigate whether mulching with M. pruriens results in an increased earthworm abundance and biomass through a N-improvement effect or as a result of microclimatic changes and to study the extent to which earthworms and M. pruriens are synergistic in enhancing maize growth. 相似文献

Feather follicle movement control was studied on feathers of the pectoral tract in the anaesthetized chicken. Dissection of nerves leading to the follicles showed that their origin was at least partially in the sympathetic ganglia. Reflectoric ruffling of feathers could be obtained after adequate stimulation. Intravenous injections of drugs in doses which influenced the circulation gave the following results: Adrenaline caused erection of feathers which was abolished by phentolamine. Noradrenaline caused up and down movements after injection only at high doses. Similar results were obtained by placing of skin pieces in saline containing the drugs. The reaction to drugs was typical always for a given group of feathers. Killing of birds and anaesthesia caused general erection of feathers which was not abolished by phentolamine. The findings suggest that adrenergic synapses are involved in feather follicle movement control, but at least another mechanism (CNS) regulates feather follicle movement. 相似文献

Meat and bone meal (MBM) utilization for animal production was banned in the European Union since 2000 as a consequence of the appearance of transmissive spongiform encephalopathies. Soil application could represent a lawful and effective strategy for the sustainable recycling of MBM due to its relevant content of nutritive elements and organic matter. The effectiveness of MBM as organic fertilizer needs to be thoroughly investigated since there is a lack of knowledge about the mineralization dynamics of MBM in soil and the impact of such residues, in particular the high content of lipids, on soil biochemical and microbiological properties. For this aim, a defatted (D) and the correspondent non-defatted (ND) MBM were added at two rates (200 and 400 kg N ha?1) to two different moist soils and incubated at 15 and 20 °C for 14 d. MBM mineralization dynamics was studied by measuring CO2 evolution. Water extractable organic C, K2SO4-extractable NO3? and NH4+, microbial biomass ninhydrin-reactive N, enzymatic activities (FDA, urease, protease, alkaline phosphatase) and microbial composition (aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, fungi) were measured 2 and 14 d after MBM addition to the soil. The rate of CO2 evolution showed a maximum 2–3 d after the addition of MBM, followed by a decrease approaching the control. MBM mineralization was fast with, on average, 54% of total CO2 evolved in the first 4 d of incubation at 20 °C. The percentage of added C which was evolved as CO2 at the end of the incubation period ranged between 8% and 16% and was affected by temperature, soil type and MBM treatment (ND > D). Soil amendment with MBM caused a noteworthy increase in both extractable NH4+ and NO3? (about 50% of added N) which was higher for ND. The addition of MBM also enhanced microbial content and activity. Microbial biomass increased as a function of the rate of application and was higher for ND with respect to D. The increase in numbers of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria and fungi caused by MBM addition was, in general, more pronounced with ND. Enzymatic activity in amended soils showed an enhancement in nutrient availability and element cycling. At the rate of application of present work, lipids did not cause adverse effects on soil microorganisms.The potential of MBM as effective organic fertilizer was supported by the large increase in available N and the enhancement of the size and activity of soil microorganisms. 相似文献

This study describes the distribution of Hepatitis E virus (HEV) in a naturally infected swine population and the genetic relatedness of HEV strains on swine farms in Spain. Of fecal and serum samples collected from 131 pigs and manure-ditch samples collected from 17 farms, HEV was detected in 16%, 14%, and 59%, respectively, for an overall prevalence rate of 23%. The maximum prevalence rates for feces and serum were in pigs 5 to 12 wk old. A high prevalence of the virus in feces (18%) was observed in sows. Gene sequencing was performed on 6 strains from feces, serum, and manure ditch: the nucleotide identities varied from 81.5% to 99% when compared with those of other strains of genotype 3 isolated from swine. This is the first study in Europe to show the variation in virus distribution by age in feces and serum in a naturally infected swine population. 相似文献

Rates of cation diffusion (magnesium, iron, and nickel) have been determined in olivine and its high-pressure polymorph, wadsleyite, at 9 to 15 gigapascals and 1100 degrees to 1400 degreesC for compositions that are relevant to Earth's mantle. Diffusion in olivine becomes strongly dependent on composition at high pressure. In wadsleyite, diffusion is one to two orders of magnitude faster than in olivine, depending on temperature. Homogenization of mantle heterogeneities (chemical mixing) and mineral transformations involving a magnesium-iron exchange will therefore occur considerably faster in the transition zone than at depths of less than 410 kilometers. 相似文献

Nonhomologous end joining (NHEJ) is a critical DNA double-strand break (DSB) repair pathway required to maintain genome stability. Many prokaryotes possess a minimalist NHEJ apparatus required to repair DSBs during stationary phase, composed of two conserved core proteins, Ku and ligase D (LigD). The crystal structure of Mycobacterium tuberculosis polymerase domain of LigD mediating the synapsis of two noncomplementary DNA ends revealed a variety of interactions, including microhomology base pairing, mismatched and flipped-out bases, and 3' termini forming hairpin-like ends. Biochemical and biophysical studies confirmed that polymerase-induced end synapsis also occurs in solution. We propose that this DNA synaptic structure reflects an intermediate bridging stage of the NHEJ process, before end processing and ligation, with both the polymerase and the DNA sequence playing pivotal roles in determining the sequential order of synapsis and remodeling before end joining. 相似文献

The presence of parasites was investigated by the examination of 1944 dog faecal samples collected from urban (n = 646) and rural (n = 1298) areas of the province of Neuquén, Patagonia, Argentina. Parasitic agents (PA) were found in 37.86% of samples. A total of 15 different PA were detected, including Toxocara canis (16.35%), Taenia spp./Echinococcus spp. (12.65%), Trichurisvulpis (6.06%), Giardia spp. (1.29%), Toxascaris leonina (0.56%), Ancylostomacaninum (0.41%), Dipylidium caninum (0.31%), Diphyllobothrium spp. (0.10%), among others. Several of these PA are recognized as zoonotic agents. Therefore, the results of this investigation revealed that local population is exposed to a broad spectrum of zoonotic parasites by means of environmental contamination with dog faeces. Prevalence of PA was slightly higher in rural (40.06%) than in urban (33.44%) locations. Distribution of groups of PA (cestodes, nematodes, and protozoa) showed statistical differences between both habitats. Prevalence of cestodes (18.18%) and protozoa (11.86%) was significantly higher in the rural environment than in urban areas and nematodes (29.10%) were more frequent in urban locations. Infection of dogs with Linguatula serrata and Cryptosporidium sp. was demonstrated for the first time in Neuquén. Rural dogs of the study area are under hydatic disease control program, which includes treatment with praziquantel every 6 weeks; thus, the finding of high level of cestode infection in these areas is of great relevance. The epidemiology of zoonotic parasitic infections in urban and rural dogs showed different patterns and, in consequence, different control measurements should be applied in each location. 相似文献
