The herbicides 2,4-diclorophenoxiacetic and 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxyacetic acids (2,4-D and MCPA) are widely used in agricultural practices worldwide. Not only are these practices responsible of surface waters contamination, but also agrochemical industries through the discharge of their liquid effluents. In this investigation, the ability of a 2,4-D degrading Delftia sp. strain to degrade the related compound MCPA and a mixture of both herbicides was assessed in batch reactors. The strain was also employed to remove and detoxify both herbicides from a synthetic effluent in a continuous reactor. Batch experiments were conducted in a 2-L aerobic microfermentor, at 28 °C. Continuous experiments were carried out in an aerobic downflow fixed-bed reactor. Bacterial growth was evaluated by the plate count method. Degradation of the compounds was evaluated by UV spectrophotometry, gas chromatography (GC), and chemical oxygen demand (COD). Toxicity was assessed before and after the continuous process by using Lactuca sativa seeds as test organisms. Delftia sp. was able to degrade 100 mg L?1 of MCPA in 52 h. When the biodegradation assay was carried out with a mixture of 100 mg L?1 of each herbicide, the process was accomplished in 56 h. In the continuous reactor, the strain showed high efficiency in the simultaneous removal of 100 mg L?1 of each herbicide. Removals of 99.7, 99.5, and 95.0% were achieved for 2,4-D, MCPA, and COD, respectively. Samples from the influent of the continuous reactor showed high toxicity levels for Lactuca sativa seeds, while toxicity was not detected after the continuous process.  相似文献

Supplementary fructooligosaccharides (FOS) were evaluated on growth, survival, gut morphology, digestive enzyme activity and expression of intestinal barrier genes in tropical gar (Atractosteus tropicus). Four treatments were designed to include FOS (5, 10, 15 and 20 g/Kg) and were compared with a control (0 g/Kg) and the current commercial trout diet. Ten fish were stocked (0.25 ± 0.01 g and 4.2 ± 0.4 cm total length) per experimental unit by triplicate in a 45‐day experiment. Fish fed with 5 and 10 g/Kg of FOS had the highest average weight and total average length. Fish fed 5 g/Kg FOS showed the best growth indexes (absolute weight gain: 2.16; specific growth rate: 4.96; and feed conversion rate: 1.23) and survival (96.66%) and also had the highest acid protease, chymotrypsin and leucine aminopeptidase activities. Fish fed 5 g/Kg FOS had a high absorption area and accumulation of lipids in the liver. Finally, relative overexpression of occluding (occ), nucleotide‐binding oligomerization domain‐2 (nod2) and mucin 2 (muc2) was detected in fish fed 10 and 15 g/Kg FOS. The supplementation between 5 and 10 g/Kg FOS in diets for A. tropicus juveniles could be beneficial for growth, digestive enzyme activities, gut morphology and intestinal barrier function.  相似文献

Oligonychus yothersi (Acari: Tetranychidae) causes damage to a wide range of plants. The aim of this work was to record the occurrence of this mite species feeding on one-year-old plants of Eucalyptus urophylla in the field and describe the damages that this mite causes to plant species. This mite species was commonly found attacking E. urophylla plants in Viçosa (MG), Brazil. The observed damage was similar to that caused by herbivorous mites that feed directly on the leaf surface and cause premature falling of the attacked leaves. This fact indicates that this mite species may be a potential pest for eucalyptus plants and crops, which makes it essential to carry out further studies on this subject, especially during periods with low intensity of rainfall and humidity.  相似文献

A system is described for collecting adult and larva of Thrips tabaci from onion foliage into insecticide-treated vials to evaluate susceptibility to insecticides. The thrips insecticide bioassay system (TIBS) allows one to treat vials and store them for 3 weeks before thrips are collected. Depending on the population density in the field, collection of the insects for the test required from 3-6 h for one person. Assays are read after 24h. This system was used in 1997 and 1998 in commercial onion fields in Honduras and Nicaragua, and TIBS was sensitive enough to detect differences to the insecticides tested, to thrips life stages and to different generations within an onion-growing season. Data collected suggest that there were not serious problems with thrips insecticide resistance, with the possible exception of cypermethrin in Nicaragua which had a resistance ratio (RR) value of 26.9 for adult thrips. The largest RR values were observed at the end of the growing season, and this may be caused by the season-long selection by insecticide sprays. The mortality of adults and larvae followed the same general pattern, but the ratio between larvae and adults differed for each chemical group.  相似文献

Leptospirosis was identified to be the possible cause of premature birth in a foal on a farm with a history of repeated abortions. Using an appropriate polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay, the presence of Leptospira kirschneri was detected in the tissues of the prematurely born foal. Further confirmation of L. kirschneri was obtained by nucleotide sequence analysis of the PCR-amplified DNA fragment and the partial 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequence. This report further supports mounting evidence that a PCR assay capable of detecting L. kirschneri should be included in routine diagnostic investigations in which Leptospira spp. infection is suspected.  相似文献

Abstract We investigated in vivo the histological and immunohistochemical responses of mouse hair pelage follicle morphogenesis to prenatal exposure to a potentially nonteratogenic dose of all- trans -retinoic acid (RA), as a basis studying the preventive effect of RA on adult mouse skin carcinogenesis. In pregnant mice, a single oral dose of RA at 30 mg kg−1 body weight given on day 11.5 of gestation caused no RA-induced changes in the morphology or temporal expression patterns of keratins during pelage hair follicle morphogenesis. The only differential effect of RA was a statistically significant increase in the number of BrdU-positive nuclei in hair bulbs from RA exposed fetuses compared with nonexposed mice. The absence of adverse RA effects suggests that this experimental design may represent a valuable protocol for use in studies on the in vivo effects of this retinoid on different skin diseases.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine if the achievement of the “in vitro” capacitation (IVC) status and subsequent progesterone‐induced “in vitro” acrosome exocytosis (IVAE) was accompanied with overall changes in threonine phosphorylation (pThre) of boar spermatozoa. For this purpose, mono‐ and bi‐dimensional Western blot analyses as well as immunocytochemistry studies against pThre were performed in boar sperm subjected to IVC and subsequent IVAE. Mono‐dimensional Western blot in non‐capacitated samples showed that launching of IVC did induce an overall increase in signal intensity in all observed bands that was followed by a subsequent decrease afterwards. Bi‐dimensional Western blot analysis showed the presence of four main signal protein clusters. The attainment of IVC induced an overall decrease in the number and intensity of spots of Clusters A, B and C and a concomitant increase in the intensity of spots of Cluster D. The IVAE launching caused a rapid increase in the intensity of spots of Clusters B, C and D, which was followed by a subsequent decrease of the intensity together with a concomitant pI displacement of Cluster C. Finally, immunocytochemistry showed that the pThre signal of non‐capacitated cells was located at the whole sperm. The IVC did not induce prominent changes in this location. In contrast, the induction of IVAE caused the appearance of an additional an intense acrosome and tail pThre signal that subsequently decreased. In conclusion, our results indicate that IVC and further IVAE induced specific changes in the intensity and appearance of pThre protein phosphorylation which were linked to changes of specific protein characteristics as pI. These results support, thus, the existence of a specific role of pThre in IVC/IVAE of boar sperm.  相似文献
