Certain ecologically-friendly substrates have recently been shown to be perfectly viable alternatives to other more traditional ones such as rockwool, perlite, or some hydroponic systems. However, in order to be competitive for vegetable production in the Mediterranean region, substrates must be used for at least one year. The present study assessed random samples of two commercial substrates, almond shell and compost from greenhouse vegetable residue. The substrates were evaluated as growing media for long-term soilless production. Three experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of reusing these substrates, comparing them with rockwool in terms of yield and fruit quality characteristics of melon and tomato. The physical, physico-chemical, and chemical properties studied differed significantly on reutilizing these materials. However, these differences did not prove to be limiting factors when fertigation parameters applied were adjusted according to substrate properties. The results suggest that compost and commercial almond shells seem to be acceptable growing media after at least 265 and 530 days of reutilization, respectively. 相似文献

A sample of 58 natural ryegrass populations (Lolium perenne L.) from the French and Spanish oceanic coast was evaluated for
three seasonal growth traits (i.e. spring, autumn and winter vigour traits) in 5 evaluation sites (three in France and two
in Spain). This sample showed a high level of genotype (population) × environment (evaluation sites) interactions for the
three agronomic traits. A factor regression analysis, using both isozyme frequencies of populations and climatic factors of
evaluation sites as covariates, was carried out on a sub-sample of 30 populations in order to explain these interactions.
This method succeeded in explaining most population × location interactions by the product of two covariates. For instance,
for spring vigour trait, 72.8% of the interaction term could be explained by the use of two covariates: the PGI2-20 allelic
frequency of populations and the minimum temperature of the coldest month of evaluation sites. This study shows the advantage
of such a method for plant breeders who need to identify promising ryegrass populations for their breeding objectives. A number
of genetic and evolutionary hypotheses are also discussed.

The species Cynara cardunculus includes the globe artichoke (var. scolymus), the cultivated cardoon (var. altilis) and the wild cardoon (var. sylvestris). The three taxa are sexually compatible and originate fertile F
1 progenies, which, given the high heterozygosity of the species, are highly segregating. We report the characterization of
two F
1 populations, one bred from a cross between globe artichoke and cultivated cardoon, and the other between globe artichoke
and wild cardoon. Both populations featured a wide array of phenotypes in relation to several traits, and some of the newly
developed genotypes are of interest for the ornamental market. The two populations were genotyped at 50 microsatellite (SSR)
loci: in the globe artichoke × wild cardoon and globe artichoke × cultivated cardoon progenies 116 and 97 alleles were respectively
detected. SSR pattern scores were used to produce an UPGMA dendrogram and a PCoA plot. A set of nine SSR loci, evenly dispersed
across the genome, was shown to be sufficient to unambiguously identify each segregant. The molecular fingerprinting is useful
for establishing the true to type correspondence of propagative materials in nurseries and ensures the effective correspondence

The general objective of this study was to evaluate the ordered weighted averaging (OWA) method, integrated to a geographic information systems (GIS), in the definition of priority areas for forest conservation in a Brazilian river basin, aiming at to increase the regional biodiversity. We demonstrated how one could obtain a range of alternatives by applying OWA, including the one obtained by the weighted linear combination method and, also the use of the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to structure the decision problem and to assign the importance to each criterion. The criteria considered important to this study were: proximity to forest patches; proximity among forest patches with larger core area; proximity to surface water; distance from roads; distance from urban areas; and vulnerability to erosion. OWA requires two sets of criteria weights: the weights of relative criterion importance and the order weights. Thus, Participatory Technique was used to define the criteria set and the criterion importance (based in AHP). In order to obtain the second set of weights we considered the influence of each criterion, as well as the importance of each one, on this decision-making process. The sensitivity analysis indicated coherence among the criterion importance weights, the order weights, and the solution. According to this analysis, only the proximity to surface water criterion is not important to identify priority areas for forest conservation. Finally, we can highlight that the OWA method is flexible, easy to be implemented and, mainly, it facilitates a better understanding of the alternative land-use suitability patterns. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) and Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) are among the most serious pests of sweet peppers in greenhouses. Chemical control is difficult because of their high reproductive rates and insecticide resistance, and seasonal inoculative releases of Orius laevigatus (Fieber) and Amblyseius swirskii (Athias‐Henriot) are commonly used to reduce their populations. As chemical treatments are often needed in the crop against other pests, the side effects of methoxyfenozide (an insect growth regulator against lepidopteran pests) and flonicamid (a selective feeding inhibitor against sucking insects) were studied in both beneficial organisms in a commercial greenhouse. RESULTS: Orius laevigatus and A. swirskii were released at commercial rates (4–5 and 100 m?2), and a strong establishment and a very homogeneous distribution were reached. One pesticide treatment with the maximum field recommended concentration of methoxyfenozide and flonicamid (96 and 100 mg AI L?1) was done when they were well established, and their population levels were not affected either immediately or up to 30 days after treatment. CONCLUSION: The results are indicative of no impact of methoxyfenozide and flonicamid on the two natural enemies in the field, and both can be considered as potential alternatives to be included in IPM programmes in sweet pepper.
