Ketamine, a noncompetitive NMDA receptor antagonist, has been shown to provide analgesia in some species. To target the NMDA receptor specifically and to potentially minimize some untoward side-effects, ketamine had been used epidurally. The objective of this study was to determine the analgesic effect of epidurally administered ketamine in dogs with chemically induced synovitis.
Sixteen healthy dogs were used. Dogs were anesthetized with propofol (4 mg kg−1 IV). Synovitis was induced by injecting 1 mL of sodium urate crystal solution (10 mg mL−1) into the right stifle. Dogs were allowed to recover and the synovitis was allowed to develop for 12 hours. The dogs were then anesthetized again using propofol (4 mg kg−1 IV). Lumbosacral epidural injections were performed with each dog receiving either 2 mg kg−1 of ketamine (20 mg mL−1) or an equal volume of placebo (sterile water containing not more than 0.1 mg mL−1 benzethonium chloride). Analgesia was assessed at baseline and then at 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, and 24 hours after induction of synovitis. Ground reaction forces (peak vertical force and impulse area) and overall pain were measured using a force platform and a pain scoring system (numerical rating scale).
Analysis of the data by Repeated Measures anova showed that the dogs developed a significant lameness between the baseline and 12 hours. However, no significant difference in ground reaction forces or total pain score was demonstrated between the treatment and control groups at any other time.
In conclusion, ketamine administered epidurally at a dose of 2 mg kg−1 did not provide significant analgesia in dogs with chemically induced synovitis.  相似文献

ObjectiveTo investigate plasma drug concentrations and the effect of MK-467 (L-659′066) on sedation, heart rate and gut motility in horses sedated with intravenous (IV) detomidine.Study designExperimental randomized blinded crossover study.AnimalsSix healthy horses.MethodsDetomidine (10 μg kg?1 IV) was administered alone (DET) and in combination with MK-467 (250 μg kg?1 IV; DET + MK). The level of sedation and intestinal sounds were scored. Heart rate (HR) and central venous pressure (CVP) were measured. Blood was collected to determine plasma drug concentrations. Repeated measures anova was used for HR, CVP and intestinal sounds, and the Student's t-test for pairwise comparisons between treatments for the area under the time-sedation curve (AUCsed) and pharmacokinetic parameters. Significance was set at p < 0.05.ResultsA significant reduction in HR was detected after DET, and HR was significantly higher after DET + MK than DET alone. No heart blocks were detected in any DET + MK treated horses. DET + MK attenuated the early increase in CVP detected after DET, but later the CVP decreased with both treatments. Detomidine-induced intestinal hypomotility was prevented by MK-467. AUCsed was significantly higher with DET than DET + MK, but maximal sedations scores did not differ significantly between treatments. MK-467 lowered the AUC of the plasma concentration of detomidine, and increased its volume of distribution and clearance.Conclusions and clinical relevanceMK-467 prevented detomidine induced bradycardia and intestinal hypomotility. MK-467 did not affect the clinical quality of detomidine-induced sedation, but the duration of the effect was reduced, which may have been caused by the effects of MK-467 on the plasma concentration of detomidine. MK-467 may be useful clinically in the prevention of certain peripheral side effects of detomidine in horses.  相似文献

We evaluated the whole body distribution of 2‐deoxy‐2‐[18F]fluoro‐d ‐glucose (18F‐FDG) in seven beagle dogs using positron emission tomography/computed tomography. The mean and maximum standard uptake values (SUV) for various tissues were computed. The SUV of the aortic blood pool was 0.65±0.19. Moderate uptake was present in brain (3.40±1.01). Mild uptake was present in orbital muscles, soft palate, laryngeal and pharyngeal region, mandibular salivary gland, myocardium, liver, pancreas, kidney, and intestine. 18F‐FDG uptake would be normally higher in these tissues because of normal physiologic activity. Mean and maximum SUV values of the eye, skeletal muscle, bone tissue, spleen, adrenal gland, stomach, tongue, gall bladder, and lung were similar to or lower than that of the aortic blood pool. These data provide a normal baseline for comparing pathologic 18F‐FDG uptake.  相似文献

Objective   To determine the clinical characteristics, short-term outcome and future athletic performance of foals with septic osteomyelitis.
Design   Retrospective clinical study of 108 Thoroughbred foals with radiographic evidence of bone infection that were presented at the Scone Veterinary Hospital between August 1995 and December 2001. Medical records were reviewed and information concerning signalment, the clinical, laboratory and radiographic findings, treatment and outcome was obtained. Racing records were obtained and evaluated for surviving foals that had reached racing age.
Results   Mean age of foals at initial evaluation was 39 days (range 1–180 days); 21 foals had multiple radiographic bone lesions (19.4%), and 76 had concurrent septic arthritis (70.4%). The most frequently affected bones were the femur, tibia and distal phalanx. In total, 87 foals were discharged from the hospital (80.6%), 79 survived long-term to reach racing age and 52 raced (65.8%). Overall, 48% (52/108) of the foals treated for osteomyelitis raced. Foals less than 30 days of age at the time of diagnosis, critically ill foals and those with multiple bones or joints affected were significantly less likely to be discharged from hospital. Multiple septic joints, but not multiple bone involvement, had an unfavourable prognosis for racing.
Conclusions   The prognosis for survival of foals with septic osteomyelitis or osteitis is favourable. Multiple bone or joint involvement is an important short-term prognostic indicator; however, the involvement of multiple joints, but not multiple infected bones, is associated with an unfavourable prognosis for racing.  相似文献

Forty-two beagle bitches at gestational ages from 4 to 35 days were treated with various formulations of the prostaglandin analogues fluprostenol and cloprostenol at doses from 10–40 μg/kg in an attempt to terminate pregnancy. Pregnancy was confirmed and the effect of treatment assessed by euthanasia and post-mortem examination to detect viable foetuses or resorbing implants twenty-one days after prostaglandin administration. Five of the bitches treated with an aqueous solution of cloprostenol by subcutaneous injection showed unacceptable side effects but both compounds in a slow release injectable formulation or impregnated into intravaginal devices had a luteolytic effect with only mild side effects in occasional bitches. Successful response to treatment in terms of sustained depression of plasma progesterone concentrations and pregnancy termination was 80 per cent at gestation stages of 25 days or over but only 27 per cent when given earlier in pregnancy. Mature follicles developed in two bitches which aborted following treatment at 14 days and returned to oestrus 10–14 days later. These preliminary findings show that slow-release formulations of fluprostenol and cloprostenol can cause complete luteolysis in the bitch.  相似文献

Previous information on the incidence of feline mycoplasma is reviewed, and the results recorded of an attempt to isolate mycoplasma from the throats and conjunctiva of 254 cats, 237 of which were from three unrelated cat colonies, and seventeen of which were household pets. The animals examined varied in age from a few hours to 15 years. Mycoplama felis and M. gatae were commonly recovered, and over 80 % of adult cats were found to be infected. Analysis of these results and examinations post-mortem of fifteen kittens and young cats failed to reveal any evidence that either organism was associated with clinical disease. Résumé. Les données existantes sur l'incidence du mycoplasme félin ont été examinées et on a enregistré les résultats d'une tentative d'isoler le mycoplasme de la gorge et des conjonctives de 254 chats dont 237 venaient de trois colonies félines sans rapports entre elles et dont 17 étaient des animaw domestiques. Les animaux examints Ctaient d'âges différents, allant de quelques heures à 15 ans. Les Mycoplame felis et M. gatne ont été souvent retrouvés et on constata que plus de 80% des chats adultes étaient infectés. L'analyse de ces résultats et les autopsies de quinze chatons n'ont pu révéler aucun signe indiquant que l'un ou l'autre de ces organismes soit lié à une maladie clinique. Zusammenfassung. Es wird eine Übersicht über frühere Informationen über die Häufigkeit von Mycoplasma bei der Katze geliefert und das Ergebnis eines Versuchs mitgeteilt, Mycoplasma aus Schlund und Bindehaut von 254 Katzen zu isolieren, von denen 237 aus drei nicht zusam-menhängenden Katzenkolonien stammten und 17 Katzen Haustiere waren. Das Alter der untersuchen Tiere lag zwischen wenigen Stunden und 15 Jahren. Mycoplasma felis und M. gatae wurden allgemein gefunden, und es stellte sich heraus, dass über 80% der erwachsenen Katzen infiziert waren. Die Analyse dieser Ergebnisse und die Autopsie von 15 jungen und sehr jungen Katzen lieferte keinerlei Anhaltspunkte, dass einer der Organismen mit klinischen Erkrankungen im Zusammenhang stand.  相似文献
