Damage caused by stem-rot and the progress of the causal fungi in old-aged Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi (Lamb.) Carr.) was investigated at the foot of Mt. Fuji. Stem-rot was found in 75% of 108 trees investigated, and volume of rot was 6% of the total wood volume in the forest investigated. Stem-rot damage was much greater than the damage by butt-rot.Stereum sanguinolentum (Alb. and Schw. ex Fr.) Fr. infected larch trees at the greatest incidence (49.4%). However,Porodaedalea chrysoloma (Fr.) Imaz. caused the most volume loss to the trees.S. sanguinolentum infected larch stems mainly through stem wounds, and decay caused by the fungus progressed 9.75×102 cm3/year on average.P. chrysoloma infected larch stems mainly through dead branches and wounds, and the average rate of decay progress for the fungus was 2.74×103 cm3/year.  相似文献

Inter- and intra-storm oxygen-18 variations in rain, throughfall, and stemflow were measured to estimate accurate new water inputs to the watershed within a 0.84-ha watershed planted with 80-year-old Cryptomeria japonica and Chamaecyparis obutusa artificial forest at the Hitachi Ohta experimental watershed in Japan. In addition two-component hydrograph separation using oxygen-18 concentrations was conducted with four types of new water concentration: (1) incremental volume-weighted mean concentrations of rainfall; (2) constant concentrations of rainfall; (3) incremental volume-weighted mean concentrations of throughfall; and (4) constant concentrations of throughfall. Six storms from June to October 2000 were investigated. In the 26 July, 24 September, and 29 October storms, old-water percentages at the hydrograph peak were more than 56.4%, 66.6%, and 80.4%, respectively. In the 24 September and 29 October storms, the old-water contribution estimated by incremental volume-weighted mean concentrations of throughfall was the greatest. On the other hand, this was the smallest after the 26 July storm. Thus, by estimating the new water inputs more accurately, the old water contribution could be either large or small. In addition, there was a relative difference of about 5–10% between old water percentages calculated from the four types of new water. The uncertainty associated with the analysis of oxygen-18 concentrations was up to 4.8%. Thus the difference in estimates of new water affected the old water percentage more than the uncertainty of the two-component model itself.  相似文献

Five tannin-related compounds – gallic acid, flavogallonic acid dilactone, valoneic acid dilactone, gallagyldilactone, ellagic acid – were isolated from the heartwood of Shorea laeviforia, and the inhibitory activity of each against rat liver 5-reductase was evaluated. Valoneic acid dilactone and gallagyldilactone exhibited positive inhibitory activity, but gallic acid and ellagic acid did not. Flavogallonic acid dilactone stimulated 5-reductase activity, even though this compound is structurally similar to valoneic acid dilactone. The kinetic study of valoneic acid dilactone and gallagyldilactone indicated that the inhibitory behavior of 5-reductase were not competitive against the substrate (testosterone) and were partially competitive against the cofactor (NADPH). Additionally, double inhibition analysis of valoneic acid dilactone and NADP+ showed synergetic inhibition. These results suggested that neither valoneic acid dilactone nor gallagyldilactone can affect the binding of testosterone but that either compound could interact with an enzyme–NADP+ complex to inhibit 5-reductase.  相似文献

In order to consider the effects of light quality on the growth of understory plants, both the direct and diffuse components of solar radiation must be evaluated. However, the basis for choosing the threshold between the two components of radiation has not been systematically determined. We evaluated the basis and methods for separating direct and diffuse radiation under field conditions. Daily courses of direct and diffuse photosynthetic photon flux densities (PPFDs) over and under canopies were measured with quantum sensors and were predicted from hemispherical photographs. We proposed a new variable, called the diffuse coefficient of canopy (dc), to compensate for the increase in the diffuse radiation component as the sunlight passes through the overstory canopy. dc was highly correlated with canopy coverage (cc) (dc = 0.01cc – 0.3, r 2 = 0.95). For woodland sites, PPFD can be predicted from hemispherical photographs according to the following equations: W dir = S out( – dc) M sin and W dif = S out (0.271 – 0.294( – dc) M ) sin, where W dir and W dif are the direct and diffuse radiation components in woodland sites, S out is the extraterrestrial PPFD normal to the solar beam, is the atmospheric transmittance, M is the optical airmass number and is the solar elevation. The daily courses of PPFD and sunflecks under canopies can be estimated from hemispherical photographs when the effects of dc are considered.  相似文献

In the course of screening for novel naturally occurring insecticides from Chinese crude drugs, a dichloromethane extract of Podophyllum hexandrum was found to give an insecticidal activity against larvae of Drosophila melanogaster Meigen. From the extract, an insecticidal compound was isolated by bioassay-guided fractionation. The compound was identified as podophyllotoxin (1) by comparison of its spectroscopic characteristics with literature data. In bioassays for insecticidal activity, 1 showed a LC(50) value of 0.24 micromol/mL diet against larvae of D. melanogaster and a LD(50) value of 22 microg/adult against adults. Acetylpodophyllotoxin (1A), however showed slight insecticidal activity in both assays, indicating that the 4-hydroxyl group was an important function for enhanced activity of 1.  相似文献

Stimulation of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) production under low O2 and high CO2 conditions (adjusted aerobic atmosphere) under which ethanol fermentation could be avoided was studied. Vine-ripe tomato fruits were stored under hypoxia conditions and adjusted aerobic atmospheres as well as in the air at 15 degrees C for 13 days and at 30 degrees C for 6 days. At 30 degrees C tomato fruit GABA concentration under the adjusted aerobic atmosphere (O2 11%, CO2 9%) was significantly higher by 48% than that in air after 6 days from the start of storage. Increased accumulation of alanine under the adjusted aerobic atmosphere supports the observation that this atmosphere stimulates GABA production. The results demonstrate that the concentration of GABA as a beneficial substance for antihypertensive effects and so on can be increased by storing tomato fruits under adjusted aerobic atmospheres for the first time.  相似文献

As a part of a research project on the elucidation of the chain-breaking antioxidation mechanism of natural phenols in food components, caffeic acid, a polyphenolic acid widely distributed in edible plants, was investigated. The identification and time course analysis of the antioxidation reaction products from methyl caffeate were carried out in the ethyl linoleate oxidation system. The antioxidation reaction produced a quinone derivative of methyl caffeate as an antioxidation product during the initial stage, which was identified by (13)C NMR. The quinone, however, was not the final product, and a further reaction occurred to produce several new peroxides. The isolation and structure determination of the peroxides revealed that they had tricyclic structures, which consisted of ethyl linoleate, methyl caffeate, and molecular oxygen. On the basis of the formation pathway of these products, an antioxidation reaction mechanism of methyl caffeate, including the redox reaction of the caffeate and Diels-Alder reaction of the produced peroxides, was proposed.  相似文献

The effect of intramammary infusion of recombinant bovine granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (rbGM-CSF) and interleukin-8 (rbIL-8) on mononuclear cell populations in quarters, somatic cell count (SCC) and the California Mastitis Test (CMT) score were investigated. From the selected cows with naturally occurring Staphylococcus aureus subclinical mastitis, one quarter of each cow were selected for the infusions of rbGM-CSF (400 μg/5 mL/quarter, n = 9), rbIL-8 (1 mg/5 mL/quarter, n = 9), and phosphate-buffered saline (5 mL/quarter, n = 7). The CMT score of both cytokines post infusion temporarily increased between days 0 and 1 and significantly decreased between days 7 and 14 compared to the preinfusion level. The SCC on day 14 after infusions of rbGM-CSF tended to be lower than that of the control group. The percentage of CD14+ cells increased on days 1 and 2 post infusion of rbGM-CSF. The percentage of CD4+ and CD8+ cells also increased on days 2 and 3, suggesting that the infusion of rbGM-CSF enhanced cellular immunity in the mammary gland. In contrast, the percentage of CD14+ cells decreased on days 0.25 and 1 post infusion of rbIL-8. No significant changes in the percentages of CD4+ and CD8+ cells in milk after infusion of rbIL-8 were evident during the experimental period, which suggested that rbIL-8 had little effect on the function of T cells in the mammary gland. These results indicated that rbGM-CSF and rbIL-8 decreased the CMT score by a different mechanism and may have a potential as therapeutic agents for subclinical mastitis.  相似文献
