The aim of the present paper is to investigate the influence of biotic factors (fungi and insects) on the mechanical properties of wood through the effect of blue-stain, taking into account the time of harvesting and the time of stay of wood in the forest. Specifically, the resistance to axial compression and to bending (modulus of rupture (MOR)) was studied using infected specimens of Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) and Norway Spruce (Picea abies) (the usual types of wood used in woodwork). The specimens were obtained from logs of Scots Pine and Norway Spruce that were harvested in three different seasons of year, namely in July 2012, November 2012 and June 2013, respectively, in the forest of Elatia-Greece, and the attack pace by biotic factors with respect to the time of logging was studied. The placement of the experimental surfaces of each type of tree was made on skid road and in the stand. Totally, 120 laboratory measurements in axial compression and 120 measurements in bending (MOR) took place. The results proved that blue-stain hardly affect the mechanical properties of both wooden species and particularly the specimens that were derived during the winter logging. 相似文献

The effect of heat treatment on the surface colour and hygroscopic properties of pine wood were investigated in this study. Boards of Scots pine wood (Pinus sylvestris L.) were subjected to thermal treatment at 200°C, for 4, 6, and 8 h. The change of equilibrium moisture content and density values of the specimens in order to facilitate the understanding of the treated material behavior. The colour parameters L*, a* and b*, used to depict the total colour change (Δ E) of wood surface, were shown to change proportionally to the treatment intensity. Moreover, swelling in the tangential and radial directions and absorption of the specimens appeared to be enhanced in great extent by the thermal treatment process. The mean value of swelling percentage in the tangential direction decreased 10.26%, 17.22%, and 19.60% for specimens treated for 4, 6, and 8 h, respectively, referring to the final measurement after 72 h of immersion. In radial direction, mean value of swelling percentage decreased 19.56%, 32.75%, and 34.65% for treated for 4, 6 and 8 h, respectively, after 72 h immersion, which attests the decrease in swelling and improvement in the hygroscopic behavior of Scots pine wood. 相似文献

Aquaculture production of the cleaner shrimp Lysmata amboinensis, a high‐valued marine ornamental, has been problematic because of prolonged larval development punctuated by periods of mortality. Broodstock maturation diets have been shown to affect fecundity and offspring quality and early survival. The common practice in shrimp culture is the use of fresh frozen foods supplemented with artificial diets. The objective of the study was to identify a suitable maturation diet (natural or artificial) for L. amboinensis. Six diets, comprised of squid, mussel, adult Artemia, a commercial feed, and combinations of the aforementioned, were fed to L. amboinensis for four reproductive cycles. Broodstock fed the squid–mussel diet lost a large proportion of the eggs during incubation, with decreased larval production (P < 0.05). In contrast, broodstock fed Artemia retained the highest proportion of the egg mass; however, hatchability was poor, resulting in low larval numbers per hatch. The Artemia and squid–mussel diets produced significantly fewer larvae than the combination or commercial diets (P < 0.05). In L. amboinensis, a maturation diet consisting of natural feeds alone resulted in poor reproductive performance and partial or complete replacement with an artificial diet was feasible. 相似文献

The presence and antibiotic resistance of Staphylococcus spp. in freshwater fish and the environment of fish markets of Northern Greece were investigated. A total of 269 samples were examined, consisting of 71 rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), 65 gibel carp (Carassius gibelio), and 133 environmental samples swabbed from various surfaces at fish markets.Staphylococcus spp. was isolated from 27% of the samples, and 16%, 9%, 0.7%, 0.4% and 0.4% were found to be positive for S. aureus, S. epidermidis, S. warneri, S. hominis-hominis, and S. haemolyticus, respectively. All isolates were examined for their susceptibility to 20 antibiotics. None of the S. aureus isolates were resistant to oxacillin and glycopeptides. Three S. epidermidis, two S. Warneri, and one S. haemolyticus isolates were resistant to oxacillin (methicillin resistant Staphylococcus, MRS). All isolates, except one, showed resistance to as many as 15 antibiotics. The population of Staphylococcus spp. in fish did not exceed 1.0 log CFU/g. Freshwater fish and the environments of retail fish markets were found to harbor multi-drug resistant staphylococci. Whether these findings present a real health risk for humans and to what extent needs to be evaluated. 相似文献
