To study the substitution of fish oil by vegetable oils in fish diets, juveniles Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis) were fed diets (56 % crude protein, 12 % crude lipid) containing either linseed (100LO) or soybean (100SO) oils in comparison with a 100 % fish oil-based diet (100FO) for 90 days. Samples of muscle, liver, and intestine were collected for biochemical analysis and for glucocorticoid receptor-related genes, including GR1 and GR2, and the associated heat shock proteins HSP70, HSP90AA, and HSP90AB. Besides, basal levels of plasma cortisol were also determined. After the feeding period, a stress test, consisting on 5 min of net chasing, was applied to a selected population of each dietary group. Total replacement of fish oil by vegetable oils did not induced changes in fish growth and performance, but affected fatty acid profile of muscle, liver, and intestine, reflecting those tissues the characteristic fatty acids of each type of dietary oil. A tendency to conserve the ARA/EPA ratio could be observed in the different tissues, despite of the level of these fatty acids in diet. Chasing stress induced an increase of muscle GR1 and a reduction in intestinal GR2 relative expressions at any of the experimental diets assayed. In liver, chasing stress induced an increase in both GR1 and GR2 gene expression in fish fed fish oil diets. Similarly, chasing stress induced an increase of muscle HSP70 and decrease of HSP90AB in liver at any of the experimental diet assayed. Besides, vegetable oils decreased the expression of HSP70 in intestine, being the relative expression of liver HSP90AA increased by the inclusion of linseed oil in the diet, at any of the experimental conditions assayed. 相似文献

Marine environments comprise almost three quarters of Earth’s surface, representing the largest ecosystem of our planet. The vast ecological and metabolic diversity found in marine microorganisms suggest that these marine resources have a huge potential as sources of novel commercially appealing biomolecules, such as exopolysaccharides (EPS). Six Alteromonas strains from different marine environments in French Polynesia atolls were selected for EPS extraction. All the EPS were heteropolysaccharides composed of different monomers, including neutral monosaccharides (glucose, galactose, and mannose, rhamnose and fucose), and uronic acids (glucuronic acid and galacturonic acid), which accounted for up to 45.5 mol% of the EPS compositions. Non-carbohydrate substituents, such as acetyl (0.5–2.1 wt%), pyruvyl (0.2–4.9 wt%), succinyl (1–1.8 wt%), and sulfate (1.98–3.43 wt%); and few peptides (1.72–6.77 wt%) were also detected. Thermal analysis demonstrated that the EPS had a degradation temperature above 260 °C, and high char yields (32–53%). Studies on EPS functional properties revealed that they produce viscous aqueous solutions with a shear thinning behavior and could form strong gels in two distinct ways: by the addition of Fe2+, or in the presence of Mg2+, Cu2+, or Ca2+ under alkaline conditions. Forestry practices integrating ecological and social criteria have been replacing those based only on economic values. Traditional silviculture, such as shelterwood cuts (SC), transforms uneven-aged original stands to an even-aged managed forest. Recently, other methods have proposed to conserve some of the original heterogeneity of the old-growth forests. One proposal leaves 30% of the timber quality forest area as aggregated retention and 20% basal area as dispersed retention. The aim of this study was to analyze the feasibility of timber management with aggregated and dispersed retention in Nothofagus pumilio old-growth forests by analyzing timber and harvesting yield potential compared with traditional regeneration systems. The resistance of the MDF 180 Hevea brasiliensis cultivar to South American leaf blight caused by Microcyclus ulei has been studied under both controlled conditions of inoculation, and under natural infestation in the Brazilian state of Bahia. Inoculated isolates on this cultivar in most cases developed sporulating lesions and produced conidiospores, but at a moderate level, characteristic of a race non-specific, partial resistance. The teleomorph of M. ulei has never been reported on this cultivar, either in controlled conditions or in natural infestation, whereas it is commonly observed on other susceptible cultivars. This type of resistance has seldom been described for other pathosystems. MDF 180 resistance having also endured for more than 30 years in areas very conducive to the disease can, therefore, be described as a durable resistance. Rubber productivity of this cultivar is not sufficient to allow planting on industrial scale, but its resistance characteristics make it a good progenitor candidate for rubber tree resistance breeding programs. 相似文献

In a search for chemical lures to manage the cosmopolitan crop pest western flower thrips (WFT), Frankliniella occidentalis, a Y-tube olfactometer was used to screen 20 compounds, including 18 4-pyridyl compounds. Comparison of Y-tube results for New Zealand flower thrips (NZFT), Thrips obscuratus, with field trapping data for ethyl nicotinate and ethyl isonicotinate, suggested that the minimum attractive dose (MAD) of an odor compound, where significantly ( p < 0.05) more than 50% of thrips walked up the odor-laden arm, provided a measure for selecting compounds to evaluate for potential lure efficacy in the field. Eighteen synthetic 4-pyridyl compounds were tested on female WFT in a Y-tube olfactometer and four 4-pyridyl carbonyl compounds had MADs lower than the known WFT attractants p-anisaldehyde (MAD 10 (-3) microL) and ethyl nicotinate (10 (-2) microL): methyl isonicotinate (10 (-6) microL), ethyl-2-chloropyridine-4-carboxylate (10 (-6) microL), ethyl isonicotinate (10 (-4) microL) and methyl 4-pyridyl ketone (10 (-5) microL). The suitability of MAD for selecting compounds for further evaluation of practical lure efficacy is discussed. Comparisons of activities within homologous series of esters and ketones showed that attractant activity decreased with chain length. 4-Formyl pyridine was an attractant at a dose of 10 (-5) microL, but was repellent at higher doses (10 (-2)-10 degrees microL). 相似文献

Animals have developed a range of drinking strategies depending on physiological and environmental constraints. Vertebrates with incomplete cheeks use their tongue to drink; the most common example is the lapping of cats and dogs. We show that the domestic cat (Felis catus) laps by a subtle mechanism based on water adhesion to the dorsal side of the tongue. A combined experimental and theoretical analysis reveals that Felis catus exploits fluid inertia to defeat gravity and pull liquid into the mouth. This competition between inertia and gravity sets the lapping frequency and yields a prediction for the dependence of frequency on animal mass. Measurements of lapping frequency across the family Felidae support this prediction, which suggests that the lapping mechanism is conserved among felines. 相似文献

The partitioning behavior of the glutenin proteins was evaluated in aqueous two-phase systems (ATPSs) formed by sulfate salts (lithium or sodium) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with average molar mass of 1500 g mol−1 or 4000 g mol−1. The partition coefficients for the glutenin proteins in each ATPS were investigated as a function of the temperature (278.2 K–318.2 K), tie line length (TLL) and electrolyte nature. In all ATPS, the majority of glutenin proteins spontaneously concentrate in the polymer-rich phase (Kp > 1). The partition coefficient is very dependent on the salt nature and the ATPS formed by PEG + lithium sulfate presents higher Kp values as compared with the ATPS formed PEG + sodium sulfate. An increase of molar mass of polymer promotes a decrease of Kp. Thermodynamic parameters of transfer (ΔtrG, ΔtrH and ΔtrS) were obtained by the application of the Van’t Hoff equation (VHE). The values obtained by VHE indicate that the transfer of glutenin proteins to the polymer-rich phase has an enthalpic origin. 相似文献
