We investigated a genotype-based assay to discriminate the dry rot fungi Serpula lacrymans. DNAs were extracted from 74 isolates from the northern half of Japan, and internal transcribed spacers (ITS) were amplified by polymerase chain reaction. Genotypes of isolates were checked by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) using two enzymes, Taq I and Hha I. Among the 74 isolates identified as S. lacrymans in terms of morphologic features, 5 isolates were shown to have been misidentified. Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis was conducted in order to detect the intraspecific diversity of S. lacrymans isolated in Japan. Because no relation between geographical origin and genetic distances was observed, the intraspecific diversity of S. lacrymans is suggested to be small.Part of this report was presented at the 52nd Annual Meeting of the Japan Wood Research Society, Gifu, April 2002  相似文献

Changes in mold populations and genera on the exposed surfaces of tropical hardwoods — albizia (Paraserianthes falcata), kapur (Dryobalanop lanceolata), mahoni (Switenia macrophylla), nangka (Artocarpus heterophyllus), puspa (Schima wallchii) — were investigated. The wood specimens were exposed to the Indonesian climate for 32 weeks. Properties including mass loss, wettability, mold growth (colony-forming units), and mold genera were evaluated. The change in properties after exposure was significantly affected by the wood species, but there was no clear relation between mass loss and the initial chemical components or between wettability and wood density. The number of mold populations was different by exposure period and wood species, but there was no significant effect of climate conditions, such as rainfall and ultraviolet radiation. Of the genera identified,Aureobasidium, Cladosporium, andPenicillium were dominant molds on the exposed wood surfaces.  相似文献

Raman spectra of Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica D. Don) treated by vacuum impregnation with aqueous boric acid solutions (8.1 × 10−2 to 7.29 × 10−1 mol dm−3) were recorded using a near-infrared laser as an excitation source. Raman spectroscopic measurements were carried out on treated wood blocks of two sizes: 20(T) × 20(R) × 5(L) mm (A-type) and 15(T) × 15(R) × 50(L) mm (B-type). Our attention was focused on a prominent band (ν 1) assigned to a symmetrical stretching vibration of the BO3 group because no Raman band due to boron species was observed except bands of B(OH)3. We observed a change in ν 1 band intensity with increasing boric acid concentration in the aqueous solution used to treat the A-type wood blocks and investigated the correlation between the intensity and the peak-top wavenumber. Raman line maps in the longitudinal direction of the treated B-type wood blocks revealed that B(OH)3 is concentrated near the cut ends. These results suggested that two groups of B(OH)3 exist in wood in terms of the chemical species in the nearest neighbor sphere. Received: March 11, 2002 / Accepted: June 26, 2002  相似文献

This study deals with the effects of carbon dioxide (CO2)-air concentration in the rapid curing method on the properties of cement-bonded particleboard manufactured using conventional cold pressing as the setting method. The hydration of cement was examined using X-ray diffractometry, thermal gravimetry, and scanning electron microscopy. The results are as follows: (1) The properties of CO2-cured boards improved with increasing CO2 concentration. When 10% or 20% CO2 was applied for 10 min of curing time, the properties of the CO2-cured boards were comparable to those obtained by conventional 2-week curing. (2) The hydration process of cement could be accelerated within several minutes using CO2 curing, even with a low concentration of 10%–20% CO2; a reduction in calcium hydroxide was observed followed by rapid formation of calcium carbonate.  相似文献

Kenaf composite panels were developed using kenaf bast fiber-woven sheets as top and bottom surfaces, and kenaf core particles as core material. During board manufacture, no binder was added to the core particles, while methylene diphenyldiisocyanate resin was sprayed to the kenaf bast fiber-woven sheet at 50 g/m2 on a solids basis. The kenaf composite panels were made using a one-step steam-injection pressing method and a two-step pressing method (the particleboard is steam pressed first, followed by overlaying). Apart from the slightly higher thickness swelling (TS) values for the two-step panels when compared with the one-step panels, there was little difference in board properties between the two composite panel types. However, the two-step pressing operation is recommended when making high-density composite panels (>0.45 g/cm3) to avoid delamination. Compared with single-layer binderless particleboard, the bending strengths in dry and wet conditions, and the dimensional stability in the plane direction of composite panels were improved, especially at low densities. The kenaf composite panel recorded an internal bond strength (IB) value that was slightly low because of the decrease of core region density. The kenaf composite panel with a density of 0.45 g/cm3 (one-step) gave the mechanical properties of: dry modulus of rupture (MOR) 14.5 MPa, dry modulus of elasticity (MOE) 2.1 GPa, wet MOR 2.8 MPa, IB 0.27 MPa, TS 13.9%, and linear expansion 0.23%.  相似文献

Some reports have shown that for single species the correlation between modulus of elasticity (MOE) and modulus of rupture (MOR) in bending is quite high. Tropical timbers consist of hundreds of species that are difficult to identify. This report deals with the mechanical stress grading of tropical timber regardless of species. Nine timber species or groups of species with a total number of 1094 pieces measuring 60 × 120 × 3000 mm, were tested in static bending. The MOE was measured flat wise, while MOR was tested edge wise. Statistical analysis of linear regression with a dummy model and analysis of covariance were used to analyze the role of MOE and the effect of species on prediction of MOR. The analysis showed that using MOE as a single predictor caused under/overestimation for one or more species and/or groups of species. The accuracy of prediction would be increased with species identification. An allowable stress and reference resistance for species and/or groups of species were provided to compare with the prediction of strength through timber grading. The timber strength class for species and/or groups of species was also established to support the application of mechanical timber grading.  相似文献

Thermal insulation and warmth-keeping properties of thick plywood-faced sandwich panels with low-density fiberboard (plywood-faced sandwich, PSW), which were developed as wood-based structural insulation materials for walls and floors, are comprehensively clarified. The properties focused on were thermal conductivity (λ), thermal resistance (R), and thermal diffusivity (D). The results for PSW panels were compared with those for commercial wood-based boards, solid wood, and commercial insulators. The λ values were measured for PSW panels and their core and face elements. As a result, the composite theory of λ was found to be appropriate for PSW composites, because the calculated/experimental λ ratios were approximately 90%. The λ values for PSW panels with densities of 340 kg/m3 (PSW350) and 410kg/m3 (PSW400) were 0.070 and 0.077W/mK, respectively. The R values for PSW350 and PSW400 were 1.4 and 1.2m2K/W, and the D values were 0.00050 and 0.00046m2/h, respectively. Consequently, the PSW provided thermal insulation properties superior to those of the boards and in terms of warmth-keeping properties were greatly advantageous over the insulators. These advantages were due to the moderate densities of PSW panels. The PSW panel with sufficient thickness showed remarkably improved thermal resistance compared with those of the boards.  相似文献

Some tropical fast-growing woods were converted to edge-jointed lumber, and their fire-retardant properties due to chemical coating were evaluated using cone calorimetry and a standard fire test. The woods used were Indonesian and Malaysian albizia and gmelina plantation trees, with Japanese hinoki as a reference. The lumber was coated with 100 g/m2 of trimethylol melamine phosphoric acid in a 25% aqueous solution. The treated and untreated lumber was tested in a laboratory-scale exposure furnace in accordance with JIS A 1304 and the cone calorimeter test with heat flux of 40 kW/m2 following the ISO 5660. Results showed that fire endurance of all lumber was enhanced by the treatment. The fire-retardant properties were improved with increasing surface density. Though a similar trend was seen, the fire-retardant properties of the lumber revealed by the cone calorimeter test were inferior to those seen with standard fire test. Addition of thermocouples to the cone calorimeter allowed us to obtain information on the critical temperature (260°C) and charring temperature (300°C) of the lumber. Sugi (Cryptomeria japonlca D. Don) wood powder was carbonized at varying temperatures by a onestep process up to 1000C and a two-step process using wood charcoal as the raw material up to 1600C. This study was conducted to evaluate the adsorptive properties of wood charcoal and discuss the mechanism of its adsorptive function in relation to the physical and anatomical characteristics of wood after carbonization. Anatomical characteristics of carbonized wood materials were directly observed under heating using an environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM); the cell wall structures were analyzed by high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM). The largest weight losses were observed at the highest temperatures, in both the one-step and twostep processes but leveled off above 800C. Shrinkages in the tangential, radial, and longitudinal directions increased with carbonization temperature, peaking at 1000C. Direct observations by ESEM showed distinct shrinkage at around 400C. The first trial observations by HRTEM on the changes in the ultrastructure of cell walls of wood charcoals were done, and it was assumed to affect the formation of micropores. Adsorption was found to follow the Langmuir isotherm model. With the one-step carbonization process, the iodine adsorption capacities of the carbonized wood powders increased with increasing carbonization temperature, peaking at 800C, but decreased at higher temperatures. The wood powder carbonized at 1000C with the two-step process showed the highest capacity, but further heating up to 1400C drastically decreased the adsorption. The shrinkage of cells was related to the increases and decreases in its specific surface area. Specific surface area and total pore volume were evidently related to the adsorptive properties.Part of this paper was presented at the Second International Wood Science Seminar, Indonesia, November 6–7, 1998  相似文献

The ability of sugi wood carbonized at 1000°C to adsorb mercury was examined using aqueous solutions of mercuric chloride. Parameters studied include contact time, pH, adsorption temperature, and initial concentration of mercury in solution. Results showed that sugi wood carbonized at 1000°C could effectively remove mercury from aqueous solutions. The carbonized wood showed high adsorption ability for mercury at a wide pH range (pH 3–9), but its ability drastically decreased at pH 11. Adsorption decreased with increases in adsorption temperatures, indicating that the processes were exothermic in nature. Adsorption was found to follow the Freundlich isotherm model. The adsorption capacity of carbonized sugi wood was comparable to that of commercial activated carbon.  相似文献
