Mechanism of zinc iron removal by zero-valent iron was discussed through zinc removal responses to several operational conditions of a packed column reactor with zero-valent iron powder. The adsorption isotherm observed implied that a kind of chemisorption was responsible for zinc removal. Zinc removal by zero-valent iron was enhanced by dissolved oxygen and ferric ion addition. However, it was deteriorated under acidic pH. In addition, zinc adsorbed on zero-valent iron was eluted by a reducing agent such as citric acid, whereas the zinc was not eluted by diluted sulfuric acid. Consequently, the zinc removal mechanism by zero-valent iron was inferred to be as follows: Zero-valent iron was firstly corroded and oxidized into ferric ion by dissolved oxygen. The ferric ion was precipitated as iron hydroxide onto the surface of the zero-valent iron powder. Zinc ion was adsorbed on and/or coprecipitated with the iron hydroxide. The iron hydroxide was finally oxidized and transformed into iron oxides. 相似文献

CASE DESCRIPTION: A 5-year-old male German Shepherd Dog was evaluated because of a 5-month history of progressive lethargy, weight loss, and heart failure. CLINICAL FINDINGS: On physical examination, bounding femoral pulses and systolic and diastolic murmurs were detected. Echocardiography revealed severe aortic valve insufficiency (AVI) and a large vegetative lesion on the aortic valve consistent with aortic valve endocarditis. The AVI velocity profile half-time was 130 milliseconds; the calculated peak systolic pressure gradient across the aortic valve was 64 mm Hg. Left ventricular diameter during diastole was 63.6 mm (predicted range, 40.2 to 42 mm) and during systole was 42.9 mm (predicted range, 25.4 to 27 mm). Systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial blood pressures were 120, 43, and 65 mm Hg, respectively. TREATMENT AND OUTCOME: To palliate severe AVI, the descending aorta was occluded (duration, 16.75 minutes) and heterotopic implantation of a porcine bioprosthetic heart valve in that vessel was performed. After surgery, systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial blood pressures were 115, 30, and 61 mm Hg, respectively, in the forelimb and 110, 62, and 77 mm Hg, respectively, in the hind limb. Within 6 months, the AVI velocity profile half-time had increased to 210 milliseconds, indicating diminished severity of AVI. After 24 months, the dog was able to engage in vigorous exercise; no pulmonary edema had developed since surgery. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Heterotopic bioprosthetic heart valve implantation into the descending aorta during brief aortic occlusion appears feasible in dogs and may provide substantial palliation for dogs with severe AVI. 相似文献

An 11-year-old Holstein-Friesian cow exhibited anorexia and jaundice. A large mass was
found in the liver during necropsy. Macroscopically, the mass was composed of dark red
multilobular tissue and a centrally located abscess, which was connected to the hepatic
duct. Histologically, the mass consisted of proliferation of small neoplastic cells and
was demarcated from the hepatic parenchyma by a thick region of granulation tissue. The
neoplastic cells were predominantly arranged in solid sheets, but they also formed
blood-filled cancellous structures, and proliferating foci were seen around blood vessels.
Periodic acid-Schiff reaction demonstrated that a fine basement membrane-like structure
surrounded the neoplastic cells. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells were positive
for vimentin and alpha smooth muscle actin and negative for cytokeratin, factor
VIII-related antigen, chromogranin and desmin. Based on its histopathological features,
the hepatic neoplasm was diagnosed as a primary glomus tumor. This is the first report
about a primary glomus tumor of the liver in a cow. 相似文献

S100B in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF-S100B) was measured in calves with 20 neurologic and 21
non-neurologic diseases to clarify its utility as a biomarker for neurologic diseases. The
median CSF-S100B value in the neurologic disease group (43.0
ng/ml) was significantly higher than that in the
non-neurologic disease group (10.2 ng/ml). As CSF-S100B
levels in calves with neurologic diseases widely differed, the utility of CSF-S100B as a
diagnostic marker for neurologic diseases in cattle remains inconclusive. 相似文献

Degeneration of the optic pathway has been reported in various animal species including cattle. We experienced a case of bilateral optic tract degeneration characterized by severe gliosis in a Japanese black cattle without any obvious visual defects. To evaluate the significance, pathological nature and pathogenesis of the lesions, we examined the optic pathway in 60 cattle (41 Japanese black, 13 Holstein and 6 crossbreed) with or without ocular abnormalities. None of these animals had optic canal stenosis. Degenerative changes with severe gliosis in the optic pathway, which includes the optic nerve, optic chiasm and optic tract, were only observed in 8 Japanese black cattle with or without ocular abnormalities. Furthermore, strong immunoreactivity of glial fibrillary acidic protein was observed in the retinal stratum opticum and ganglion cell layer in all 5 cattle in which the optic pathway lesions could be examined. As etiological research, we also examined whether the
concentrations of vitamin A and vitamin B12 or bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) infection was associated with optic pathway degeneration. However, our results suggested that the observed optic pathway degeneration was probably not caused by these factors. These facts indicate the presence of optic pathway degeneration characterized by severe gliosis that has never been reported in cattle without bilateral compressive lesions in the optic pathway or bilateral severe retinal atrophy. 相似文献

The quantitative analysis of the initial transport of fixed isotope 15-nitrogen (15N) in intact nodulated soybean plants (Glycine max [L.] Merr. cv. Williams) was investigated at the vegetative stage (36 days after planting, DAP) and pod-filling stage (91 DAP) by the 15N pulse-chase experiment. The nodulated roots were exposed to N2 gas labeled with a stable isotope 15N for 1 h, followed by 0, 1, 3 and 7 h of exposure with normal air. Plant roots and shoots were separated into three sections (basal, middle and distal parts) with the same length of the main stem or primary root. Approximately 80 and 92% of fixed N was distributed in the basal part of the nodulated roots at the vegetative and pod-filling stages by the end of 1 h of 15N2 exposure, respectively. In addition, about 90% of fixed 15N was retained in the nodules and 10% was exported to root and shoot after 1 h of 15N2 exposure at 91 DAP. The percentage distribution of 15N in the nodules at the pod-filling stage decreased from 90% to 7% during the 7 h of the chase period, and increased in the roots (14%), stems (54%), leaves (12%), pods (10%) and seeds (4%). The 15N distribution was negligible in the distal root segment, suggesting that N fixation activity was negligible and recycling fixed N from the shoot to the roots was very low in the initially short time of the experiment. 相似文献

Accumulating evidence suggests that the arcuate nucleus (ARC) kisspeptin/neurokinin B
(NKB)/dynorphin (KNDy) neurons play a role in estrogen negative feedback action on
pulsatile gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)/luteinizing hormone (LH) release. The
present study aimed to determine if dynorphin (Dyn) is involved in estrogen negative
feedback on pulsatile GnRH/LH release. The effect of the injection of nor-binaltorphimine
(nor-BNI), a kappa-opioid receptor (KOR) antagonist, into the third cerebroventricle (3V)
on LH pulses was determined in ovariectomized (OVX) adult female rats with/without
replacement of negative feedback levels of estradiol (low E2). The mean LH
concentrations and baseline levels of LH secretion in nor-BNI-injected, low
E2-treated rats were significantly higher compared with vehicle-treated
controls. On the other hand, the nor-BNI treatment failed to affect any LH pulse
parameters in OVX rats without low E2 treatment. These results suggest that Dyn
is involved in the estrogen negative feedback regulation of pulsatile GnRH/LH release. The
low E2 treatment had no significant effect on the numbers of ARC
Pdyn (Dyn gene)-,Kiss1- and
Tac2 (NKB gene)-expressing cells. The treatment also did not affect
mRNA levels of Pdyn and Oprk1 (KOR gene) in the
ARC-median eminence region, but significantly increased the ARC kisspeptin
immunoreactivity. These findings suggest that the negative feedback level of estrogen
suppresses kisspeptin release from the ARC KNDy neurons through an unknown mechanism
without affecting the Dyn and KOR expressions in the ARC. Taken together, the present
result suggests that Dyn-KOR signaling is a part of estrogen negative feedback action on
GnRH/LH pulses by reducing the kisspeptin release in female rats. 相似文献
