Two dogs with acute onset atrial fibrillation (AF) were cardioverted to sinus rhythm by the administration of 2 mg/kg lidocaine given intravenously. Each dog was believed to have AF initiated because of elevated vagal tone. This report has potential clinical impact for a subset of dogs because it offers a treatment to circumvent persistent AF. Furthermore, this encouraging result of a pharmacologic cardioversion suggests that further investigation would be of interest to ascertain the effectiveness and mechanism of the antiarrhythmic action of lidocaine in vagally induced AF. 相似文献

Molecular characteristics based on absolute weight‐average molecular weight (Mw) and z‐average radius of gyration (Rg) of normal corn starch were analyzed by high‐performance size‐exclusion chromatography (HPSEC) attached to multiangle laser‐light scattering (MALLS) and refractive index (RI) detectors under different starch dissolution and analytical conditions. Autoclaving (121°C, 20 min) or microwave heating (35 sec) provided better HPSEC recovery and higher Mw for starch molecules than simple dissolution in hot water. The Mw for the autoclaved corn amylopectin and amylose fractions separated with a TSK G5,000 column at 60°C were 201 × 106 and 3.3 × 106, respectively. The specific volume for gyration (SVg) calculated from Mw and Rg could be used for the comparison of molecular compactness which was inversely related to the degree of branching. The SVg values of amylopectin and amylose fractions in the chromatogram (TSK G5,000, autoclaved for 20 min) were 0.092 and 0.529, respectively. But a portion (20–30%) of large amylopectin molecules did not pass the injection membrane filter (3.0 μm) and the SEC column, resulting in incomplete recovery. The unfiltered portion varied according to the dissolution treatment. Homogenization (7,000 rpm, 5 or 10 min) of the starch solution improved the recovery of the amylopectin fraction, but significantly increased the Mw of the amylose fraction (17 × 106). Sonication for 5 min degraded starch molecules. For accurate analysis of a native starch using an aqueous SEC, the starch should be fully dissolved with proper treatment such as autoclaving or microwaving, and the column should be improved for full recovery of large amylopectin molecules. 相似文献

BackgroundSerum-based parameters are considered non-invasive biomarkers for cancer detection. In human studies, insulin-like growth factor-I and II (IGF-I and IGF-II) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) are useful as diagnostic or prognostic markers and potential therapeutic targets.ObjectivesThis study examined the diagnostic utility of circulating IGF-I, IGF-II, and IGFBP-3 levels in healthy dogs and dogs with tumors.MethodsThe serum concentrations of these biomarkers in 86 dogs with tumors were compared with those in 30 healthy dogs using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).ResultsThe ELISA results showed no difference between healthy dogs and dogs with tumors in the serum IGF-II concentrations. On the other hand, there was a significant difference in the circulating IGF-I and IGFBP-3 levels between healthy dogs and dogs with tumors. The concentrations of serum IGF-I (median [interquartile range], 103.4 [59.5–175] ng/mL) in dogs with epithelial tumors were higher than those (58.4 ng/mL [43.5–79.9]) in healthy dogs. Thus, the concentrations of serum IGFBP-3 (43.4 ng/mL [33.2–57.2]) in dogs with malignant mesenchymal tumors were lower than those (60.8 ng/mL [47.6–70.5]) in healthy dogs.ConclusionsThe serum IGF-I and IGFBP-3 levels can be used as diagnostic biomarkers in dogs with tumors. 相似文献

Soybean seed protein and oil concentrations are important traits that directly affect the quality of soyfoods. Many studies and breeding programmes have been conducted to find major quantitative trait loci (QTL) that regulate protein and oil concentrations and to develop soybean cultivars with high protein and/or oil content. The purpose of this study was to identify these QTL using a selected breeding population. The population was tested in field conditions over a period of 3 years. Seed protein and oil concentrations were measured each year. Single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were used to construct genetic map using a 180K SoyaSNP array, which identified 1,570 SNPs. We identified 12 QTL for seed protein, 11 for seed oil concentration and four for both traits. Among these, 17 QTL were closely mapped to previously reported QTL, whereas ten sites were novel. Several QTL were detected across at least two experimental years. These loci are good candidate QTL for optimal seed protein and oil concentrations. Our results demonstrate that favourable target QTL can be successfully identified using selected breeding populations. 相似文献

ABSTRACT The attractiveness of various protein sources of 16 feed ingredients was determined in juvenile rockfish (Sebastes schlegeli) by using reinforced acrylic tank composed of three equally divided rectangular attracting chambers and an acclimatization chamber. Thirty fish were held in the acclimatization chamber at a time and tournament comparison of feed ingredients was applied to evaluate attractiveness. Jack mackerel (JM) (40.0%), sardine (SM) (33.3%), Pollack (PM) (40.0%), shrimp (SHM) (36.7%), mussel meal (40.0%) and oyster (43.3%) meals achieved the highest feeding attractiveness to rockfish in the 1st through 6th preliminary test, respectively. JM (40.0%), SHM (36.7%), squid meal (SQM) (33.3%), SM (40.3%), PM (40.0%) and PM (36.7%) achieved the highest feeding attractiveness to fish in the 7th through 12th preliminary test, respectively. Among the top five feed ingredients showing high attractiveness to rockfish, JM achieved higher attractiveness than PM and SHM in the 1st trial. In the 2nd trial, attractiveness of JM to rockfish was higher than SM and SQM. SM achieved higher attractiveness to rockfish than SQM, but not different from PM throughout the 30-min observation in the 3rd trial. The strongest feeding attractant response of rockfish was observed in JM, followed by SM, SQM, PM, and SHM, in order among various feed ingredients. 相似文献

Substitution effect of Undaria pinnatifida with citrus peel by‐product (CPB) on growth, body composition and air exposure stressor of abalone was determined. A total of 1,080 abalone were distributed into 18 net cages. Five formulated diets were prepared in triplicate. The CPB0 diet contained 200 g/kg U. pinnatifida. The 250, 500, 750 and 1,000 g/kg U. pinnatifida were substituted with the equal amount of CPB, referred to as the CPB250, CPB500, CPB750 and CPB1000 diets, respectively. Finally, dry U. pinnatifida was prepared. Abalone were fed for 16 weeks and then subjected to air exposure stressor for 24 hr. The cumulative mortality of abalone was monitored for the following 4 days after 24‐hr air exposure. Survival, weight gain and specific growth rate (SGR) of abalone fed all formulated diets were greater than those of abalone fed the U. pinnatifida. The greatest weight gain and SGR were achieved in abalone fed the CPB500 diet. The chemical composition of the soft body of abalone was not affected by the experimental diets. Higher cumulative mortality was observed in abalone fed the CPB0 and dry U. pinnatifida at 16 hr after 24‐hr air exposure compared to abalone fed all other diets. In conclusion, U. pinnatifida could be completely substituted with CPB in abalone feed. 相似文献

Thymic epithelial cells (TECs) account for the most abundant and dominant stromal component of the thymus, where T cells mature. Oxidative- or cytotoxic-stress associated injury in TECs, a significant and common problem in many clinical settings, may cause a compromised thymopoietic capacity of TECs, resulting in clinically significant immune deficiency disorders or impairment in the adaptive immune response in the body. The present study demonstrated that fish collagen peptides (FCP) increase cell viability, reduce intracellular levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and impede apoptosis by repressing the expression of Bax and Bad and the release of cytochrome c, and by upregulating the expression of Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL in cisplatin-treated TECs. These inhibitory effects of FCP on TEC damage occur via the suppression of ROS generation and MAPK (p38 MAPK, JNK, and ERK) activity. Taken together, our data suggest that FCP can be used as a promising protective agent against cytotoxic insults- or ROS-mediated TEC injury. Furthermore, our findings provide new insights into a therapeutic approach for the future application of FCP in the prevention and treatment of various types of oxidative- or cytotoxic stress-related cell injury in TECs as well as age-related or acute thymus involution. 相似文献

Light-emitting diode (LED) technology offers potential energy-efficient light sources for algal aquaculture. In this study, the growth rate and ulvan yield of Ulva pertusa used for broad commercial applications were enhanced in vitro. To investigate the response of Ulva to LEDs, algae were grown under white fluorescent, pure primary color LED, and mixed LED lights for 28 days. Ulva sp. under blue LED and white fluorescent light showed higher specific growth rate (SGR, 12% day?1) than other light sources, while the growth under mixed red-blue LED light was lower than that under white fluorescent lighting. Despite the differences in alga growth under LEDs and white fluorescent light, few differences are observed in N and P content among algae grown under any light source. U. pertusa showed tissue nitrogen and ulvan contents in the ranges of 4.4–6.7% and 20.4–25.1%, respectively, under all LED light treatments. The ulvan extracted from algae under blue LED showed high levels of antioxidant activity measured with 2,2-diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical and hydrogen peroxide. Moreover, the ulvan obtained under different lights showed different monosaccharide compositions. Based on these results, LEDs should be considered as the main light sources for indoor seaweed cultivation. 相似文献

The production of miniature animals has been suggested for use in organ transplantation. At present, many of the studies about application of animal organs to human have been focused on pigs because of the number of advantages involved and due to their similarities with human. However, a physiological analysis of the organs to be transplanted has not yet been carried out. Therefore, this study analyzed whether or not there were physiological and morphological differences in the hearts of conventionally-reared pigs and micropigs. In this study, the morphological and physiological functions of the heart were examined using radiographic and echocardiographic equipment. In the lateral radiographic view, the heart of the micropig has a larger cardiac long axis : short axis ratio than does the conventional pig, but the difference in the vertebral heart score was not significant. In addition, there were no morphological differences on the X-ray fluoroscopic view. There were no differences in echocardiographic values, except for several values in the left ventricle traces. Overall, it is expected that the values measured in this study will contribute to understanding of the physiological characteristics of micropigs. 相似文献
