In management of the Japanese scallop Mizuhopecten yessoensis culture, it is important to understand the phytoplankton bloom development in the coastal region of the Okhotsk Sea. Variations in food available to this benthic bivalve are a primary environmental factor affecting growth in nature. This paper determined the seasonal variability of Chlorophyll a (Chl a) at the scallop farming region in the Okhotsk Sea from 1998 to 2004 using satellite imageries. Satellite images were processed using default NASA coefficients and community-standard algorithms as implemented by Sea DAS. Spatial and temporal variation of Chl a was determined by EOF analysis. The Chl a concentration showed high seasonal and interannual variability. Peak of Chl a concentration occurred in spring followed by autumn and summer. This was evident in the Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) analysis. The spatial pattern of the first mode of EOF analysis of Chl a revealed intensified Chl a at the shelf and offshore areas in spring and autumn (51.8% of variance). The second mode explained 14.2% of the variance indicating enhancement of spring (April-May) Chl a pattern in the frontal area along the coast. Meanwhile, the third mode captured 9.0% of the variability demonstrating high Chl a extending seaward from the shelf area during late autumn. These seasonal variability of Chl a resulted from the variability in occurrences of physical processes associated with retreat of sea ice in spring, advection of Soya Warm Current in summer and intrusion of East Sakhalin Current in autumn. 相似文献

The climate change will contribute drought and temperature extremes to rice growing systems, especially when cultivated in equatorial regions. To evaluate opportunities to cultivate and breed drought-tolerant rice, seven rice cultivars were evaluated in Rwanda for recurring morphological drought scores, grain yield and components, and quality characteristics. The cultivation conditions, that is site and drought treatment, impacted morphological drought scores, growth and yield attributes, while cultivar affected quality attributes. Thus, site showed a higher impact on grain yield and components than drought and cultivar, with generally a reduced grain yield at the low-temperature site, as a result of low spikelet fertility. Morphological drought scores were generally increased by drought, while drought at the reproductive stage at the high-temperature site was negative for yield and its components. The cultivars “Intsindagirabigega” and “Jyambere” were adapted to high-temperature site conditions. The cultivar “Intsindagirabigega” had the highest amylose content, and “Mpembuke,” the highest antioxidant capacity. Thus, climate change with increased temperature and drought extremes may increase rice productivity in cool areas, while especially drought at reproductive stage will be detrimental in low altitude areas with high temperature. The actual prevalence of Listeria monocytogenes from contents of swine cecum was investigated. The efficiency of Listeria enrichment broth (LEB) for isolation was examined by the recovery of artificially inoculated L. monocytogenes in contents of swine cecum. The numbers of organisms did not increase after 48 h incubation, but increased when the rapid decrease in pH of the LEB was adjusted. Between 1991 and 1993, 250 contents of swine cecum were examined for the prevalence of L. monocytogenes using LEB enrichment, either with or without pH adjustment. L. monocytogenes was isolated from 74 samples in 1993 with pH adjustment, however, no organisms were isolated in 1991 and 1992. It was suggested that the marked rise of the L. monocytogenes isolation was due to the spread of the organism among swine. Furthermore, 67 out of the 74 isolates were identified as 1/2c by serotyping. The serovar 1/2c strains showed genetic diversity by random amplified polymorphic DNA. 相似文献

A long-term study was performed on the prevalence of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) O157 in bovine faeces. The present study was conducted on heifers raised on a farm showing a high isolation rate of EHEC O157 in previous years. The prevalence of EHEC O157 isolated from faecal samples was 10.6% (222/2104), 5.6% (181/3225), and 5.6% (153/2744) from 1998 to 2000, respectively. The numbers of EHEC O157-positive heifers for the same 3 years were 46.3% (185/400), 36.8% (147/399), and 31.7% (130/410), respectively. The seasonal prevalence of EHEC O157 varied according to the year. Most positive heifers excreted the EHEC O157 only once during the survey, though it was excreted 2 or 3 times by some heifers. The results obtained in the present study showed that the farm examined was heavily contaminated with EHEC O157. The impact of acute phase response (APR) on the plasma clearances of antipyrine, theophylline, phenytoin and nifedipine was studied using 50 female rabbits. APR was induced by a bolus intramuscular injection of Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 50 microg/kg). No abnormal findings, other than an increase in rectal body temperature and the plasma concentration of interleukin-6 (IL-6), were observed in the LPS-treated animals. Twenty-four hours after LPS injection, the pharmacokinetic parameters of the four drugs were obtained following intravenous administrations of antipyrine (7 mg/kg), theophylline (5 mg/kg), phenytoin (10 mg/kg) and nifedipine (1 mg/kg). Total body clearances of antipyrine, theophylline, phenytoin and nifedipine in LPS-treated rabbits decreased, and terminal elimination half-life and the mean residence time of these drugs increased compared with those in the control rabbits. The apparent volume of distribution for phenytoin and nifedipine increased after the LPS injection, although the binding percentage of the drugs with plasma protein did not change. These results suggested that APR appears to decrease the plasma clearances of these drugs in rabbits, which may be due to the suppression of the activity of cytochrome P450 enzymes. 相似文献
