Marek's disease virus serotype 1 (MDV-1) strains cause malignant lymphoma in chickens. MDV-1 has been previously reported to be widespread in white-fronted geese (Anser albifrons); however, the prevalence of MDV-1 in other wild birds has not been determined. In this study, we investigated the prevalence of MDV-1 in various wild birds in Hokkaido, Japan. The MDV-1 genome was widespread in geese and ducks, but was not detected in other birds. MDV-1 was detected in both sedentary and migratory species. These results suggest that, in Japan, MDV-1 is widespread in wild goose and duck populations, and that resident ducks may be significant carriers and reservoirs of MDV-1. 相似文献

Based on receptor usage during infection, feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) isolates can be divided into two groups; those that require feline CD134 (fCD134) as a primary receptor in addition to CXCR4 to enter the cells, and those that require CXCR4 only. Most primary isolates, including strain TM2, belong to the former group and cannot infect a feline astrocyte cell line (G355-5 cells) due to a lack of fCD134 expression. In a previous study, we found that G355-5 cells transduced with fCD134 (termed G355-5/fOX40 cells) were susceptible to strain TM2 and the inoculated cells became persistently infected. In this study, we examined the phenotype of the virus prepared from the persistently infected cells (termed strain TM2PI). Intriguingly, strain TM2PI replicated well in na?ve G355-5 cells and the inoculated G355-5 cells (termed G355-5/TM2PI cells) became persistently infected. The infection of TM2PI in G355-5 cells was inhibited by CXCR4 antagonist AMD3100 and TM2PI infected other fCD134-negative, CXCR4-positive cell lines, FeTJ and 3201 cells. Four amino acid substitutions were found in the Env protein of the strain TM2PI when compared with that of the parental strain TM2. Among the substitutions, the Env amino acid position at 407 of TM2PI was substituted to lysine which has been known to be responsible for the FIV tropism for Crandell feline kidney cells. The strain TM2PI will be useful for studying the receptor switching mechanism and FIV pathogenesis in cats. 相似文献

To evaluate the efficacy of clinical staging based on computed tomography (CT) imaging over the World Health Organization (WHO) staging system based on radiography for nasal tumors in dogs, a retrospective study was conducted. This study used 112 dogs that had nasal tumors; they had undergone radiography and CT and had been histologically confirmed as having nasal tumors. Among 112 dogs, 85 (75.9%) were diagnosed as adenocarcinoma. Then they were analyzed for survival time according to each staging system. More than 70% of the patients with adenocarcinoma were classified as having WHO stage III. The patients classified under WHO stage II tended to survive longer than those classified under WHO stage III. Dogs classified under WHO stage III were further grouped into CT stages III and IV, and CT stage III patients had a significantly longer survival time than CT stage IV patients. In addition, patients treated with a combination of surgery and radiation had a significantly longer survival time than the patients who did not receive any treatment in CT stage III. On the other hand, different treatment modalities did not show a significant difference in the survival time of CT stage IV dogs. The results suggest that WHO stage III dogs may have various levels of tumor progression, indicating that the CT staging system may be more accurate than the WHO staging system. 相似文献

Studies of equine intestinal spirochetes have long focused on intestinal contents alone, but intestinal spirochetosis has been reported recently in a 21-month-old Thoroughbred colt in Japan. To define the clinical and pathological significances of intestinal spirochetosis in several horses, an epizootiologic survey with histologic, immunohistochemical, and ultrastructural methods was conducted for Brachyspira antigen-containing intestinal spirochetes in 12 diseased or injured Thoroughbred horses, aged from 35 days to 17 years. Brachyspira antigen-containing spirochetes were found in 7 of 12 horses (58.3%) and were more frequent in the cecum than in other parts of the bowel. It was not clear whether the infection was clinically related to diarrhea or dysentery, but histopathology revealed a close association between the bacterial infection and epithelial hyperplasia. Crypt epithelium consisted mainly of goblet cells and showed frequent mitosis throughout its length. Inflammatory cells and congestion were also present. There were numerous spirochetes in the crypts, and some invaded the cecal and colonic epithelia and underlying lamina propria. Ultrastructurally, the spirochetes were divided into 4 types. Three types were identified in degenerative epithelial cells or intracellularly. Brachyspira antigen-containing intestinal spirochetes invading the mucosa were capable of causing epithelial hyperplasia in the cecum and colon in the horses. The findings in this study will increase awareness of the importance of intestinal spirochetosis and may also be helpful for diagnosis and treatment of this condition. 相似文献

Trypanosoma evansi causes wasting disease in many livestock. T. evansi infection gives rise to inflammatory immune responses, which contribute to the development of inflammation-associated tissue injury. We previously reported that regulatory dendritic cells (DCs), which act as potential regulators of inflammation, were activated in infected mice and transfer of regulatory DCs to infected mice prolonged their survival. However, the kinetics of regulatory DCs in cattle, which are natural hosts of T. evansi, remained unclear. In this study, we report that the expressions of CCL8 and IL-10, which promote the development of regulatory DCs, were up-regulated in cattle experimentally infected with T. evansi. This finding is potentially useful for studying the control strategy of T. evansi infection in cattle. 相似文献

The present report describes a rare case of spontaneous hemangiosarcoma in a nine-week-old
male Sprague-Dawley rat. At necropsy, multiple white nodules of various sizes were observed on
and within the enlarged spleen and liver and were histopathologically determined to be composed
of spindle- to oval-shaped cells that showed invasive growth without encapsulation and were
arranged solidly but partially in whorls or faint alveolar patterns with vascular-like spaces
containing small clefts or erythrocytes in the tumor mass. Immunohistochemical analysis
revealed that most of the tumor cells were strongly positive for vimentin, von Willebrand
factor (vWF) and CD34 but negative for podoplanin. In addition, electron microscopic
examination revealed the presence of Weibel-Palade bodies in the cytoplasm of the tumor cells.
Based on these findings, this case was diagnosed as a hemangiosarcoma. The splenic masses were
larger than the hepatic ones, with tumor cells mainly observed at periportal regions with tumor
embolism in the liver, suggesting that primary hemangiosarcoma initially developed in the

Haemosporidian parasites infection among wild birds inhabiting Minami-daito Island was studied. Blood films from 183 birds representing 4 species of 4 families were examined microscopically. Avian haemosporidian parasites were detected in 3 species with an overall prevalence of 59.6%. None of the 30 Daito scops owls (Otus scops interpositus) examined were infected. Either Haemoproteus sp. or Plasmodium sp. infection was found in 14 of 31 (45.2%) Borodino islands white-eyes (Zosterops japonicus daitoensis). Plasmodium spp. were found in 94 of 102 (92.2%) bull-headed shrikes (Lanius bucephalus) and 1 of 20 (5%) tree sparrows (Passer montanus). 相似文献

We analysed genogroups of four feline calcivirus (FCV) isolates (FCV-S, H10, Ao198-1 and ML89) obtained from cats that experienced
FCV infection after having been vaccinated against FCV. New PCR primer sets (8F/8R, Ao-S/Ao-A, cp-S/cp-A) were also designed,
since the conventional Seal primer failed to amplify the target sequences in two samples. The genogroups of the four isolates
as well as eight global and 17 domestic strains were determined by phylogenetic analysis of their amino acid sequences. One
out of the four strains (25%) isolated in this study, H10, was grouped into genogroup I, along with the vaccine strains F9
and FCV-255. The other three isolates (75%) belonged to genogroup II. Thus, there were more isolates in genogroup II than
in genogroup I. However, the antibody values of the four isolates against cat anti-F9 antisera were significantly decreased.
There may be no relationship between the neutralizing antibody titre and genogroup. Amino acid sequence alignment of the four
isolates showed that only a single amino acid in region C, which is involved in neutralization epitopes, was different in
ML89 strain from that of F9. The other three strains, H10, Ao198-1 and FCV-B, shared the same amino acid sequence with F9.
Alignment of amino acids for linear epitopes in the F9 strain, which are located at regions D and E, showed variations in
5' hypervariable region (HVR) of E, whereas D and conE had only synonymous substitutions i.e. no change in the amino acid
sequence. This mutation in 5' HVR of region E suggested a vaccine breakdown, as the region is known to be essential for antigenicity.
The genogroup II FCV is likely to be the cause of the FCV infection in this study, while the vaccine strains belong to genogroup
I. Thus, the existing vaccine may need reevaluation for its effectiveness. 相似文献

A diagnosis of plasma cell myeloma was made in a 6-year-old Holstein cow that showed continuous nosebleed, progressing emaciation, and hyperglobulinemia. Necropsy revealed enlargement of the caudal mesenteric lymph nodes. Lymph nodes and spleen were infiltrated by neoplastic plasma cells. Renal lymph nodes, bone marrow, and kidneys also were affected. Amyloid-like material that was negative for Congo red was present in most of the affected lymph nodes. Congo red-positive amyloid material was noted in spleen, kidneys, liver, and adrenal glands. Neoplastic plasma cells exhibited immunohistochemical reactions for lambda-light chain and 3 classes of heavy chain but not for kappa-light chain. Nonamyloid deposits were labeled with antisera against lambda-light chain and heavy chains. Plasmacytoid cells, which stained positively for IgG, IgM, or IgA, were intermingled in all lesions. Production of 3 types of immunoglobulins may be caused by heavy-chain class switching, constantly occurring in certain proportions. 相似文献
