Pasture, forest, and farmland are the dominant land covers in the Tajan River watershed and this landscape status has a direct connection with nitrate pollution. Understanding the correlations between landscape variables and nitrate pollutant is a priority in order to assess pollutants loading and predicting the impact on surface water quality. The soil and water assessment tool was used to simulate nitrate loads in different land cover types in different years. The landscape pattern was calculated by FRAGSTATS. The contributing share of each land use/land cover shows nitrate pollutant produced by grassland (5.7%) and forest (29%) are less than those produced by agricultural land (64.2%). Agricultural land was identified as the main source of nitrate pollution. Paddy fields and orchards had the most intensive soluble nitrate loss especially in spring and summer. Statistical analysis indicated that nitrate was positively associated with patch density, edge density, patch number, total edge, effective mesh size, largest patch index, and landscape shape index (p ≤ 0.01). We then analyzed how nitrate was related to landscape attributes in six different sites. Also the regression analysis results suggested that landscape metrics could account for more than 94% of the variance of nitrate in the whole catchment. The regression models confirmed the great importance of the agriculture metrics and forest metric in predicting nitrate in watershed. Defining the generation and extent of pollution in this particular watershed which discharges into the Caspian Sea can constitute an important step toward protecting this ecosystem.  相似文献

Background

The purpose of this study was to develop and validate an analytical method to determine the presence of hyaluronic acid derived disaccharides in equine synovial fluid.

Findings

A high-performance liquid chromatography method for the determination of hyaluronic acid derived unsaturated disaccharides in equine synovial fluid was developed and validated. The method is based on the measurement of unsaturated disaccharides released by digestion of linear hyaluronic acid molecules. The method showed linearity (r2 = 0.996) over the full working concentration range 0.89-30 mg/l. Relative standard deviation of intra- and inter-day precision ranged from of 4.3-6.7% and 7.1-7.8% respectively. The detection limit was 0.3 mg/l corresponding to 20 mg/l in synovial fluid. Accuracy of the assay was 97-103%. This method was evaluated by determining the concentration of unsaturated disaccharides from hyaluronic acid in synovial fluid of horses with lameness in the metacarpo-/metatarsophalangeal joint localized with positive response to intra-articular anesthesia.

Conclusions

The described method is valid for determination of hyaluronic acid derived disaccharides in equine synovial fluid. This method was applied to a larger research project dealing with a new form of intra-articular therapy in horses with arthritic diseases.  相似文献

Laurel (Laurus nobilis L.) seeds were collected from the west part of Turkey in the fall of 2002. Seeds with pericarp (+) or without pericarp (−) were treated with 1000 mg/l, 2000 mg/l and 3000 mg/l GA3 concentrations, cold stratified at +4 ± 1°C for 25 and 50 days, punctured and seed coat removed to overcome and assess the mechanism of laurel seed dormancy. A period of 50 days cold stratification and removing seed coat significantly increased germination rate to 55% ± 1.91 (Mean ± SE) and 85% ± 3.00, respectively. None of the seeds with pericarp germinated regardless of treatment they underwent. Results suggested that seed dormancy was mainly due to pericarp and perhaps inhibitors linked to seed coat.  相似文献

One-year-old Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) seedlings were grown hydroponically in a growth chamber to investigate the effects of low and high nutrient availability (LN; 0.25 mM N and HN; 2.50 mM N) on growth, biomass allocation and chemical composition of needles, stem and roots during the second growing season. Climatic conditions in the growth chamber simulated the mean growing season from May to early October in Flakaliden, northern Sweden. In the latter half of the growing season, biomass allocation changed in response to nutrient availability: increased root growth and decreased shoot growth led to higher root/shoot ratios in LN seedlings than in HN seedlings. At high nutrient availability, total biomass, especially stem biomass, increased, as did total nonstructural carbohydrate and nitrogen contents per seedling. Responses of stem chemistry to nutrient addition differed from those of adult trees of the same provenance. In HN seedlings, concentrations of alpha-cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin decreased in the secondary xylem. Our results illustrate the significance of retranslocation of stored nutrients to support new growth early in the season when root growth and nutrient uptake are still low. We conclude that nutrient availability alters allocation patterns, thereby influencing the success of 2-year-old Norway spruce seedlings at forest planting sites.  相似文献

We investigated effects of nutrient availability on shoot structure and light-interception efficiency based on data from control (C) and irrigated + fertilized (IL) trees of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.). The sampling of 1-year-old shoots was designed to cover the variation in canopy exposure within the live crown zone, where current-year shoots were still found. Canopy openness was used as a measure of light availability at the shoot's position. Openness values for the sample shoots ranged from 0.02 to 0.77 on the IL plot, and from 0.10 to 0.96 on the C plot. Among needle dimensions, needle width increased most with canopy openness. At fixed canopy openness, needle width was larger, and the ratio of needle thickness to width was smaller in IL trees than in C trees. Specific needle area (SNA) and the ratio of shoot silhouette area to total needle area (STAR) decreased with canopy openness, so that the combined effect was a threefold decrease in the ratio of shoot silhouette area to unit dry mass (SMR = STAR x SNA) along the studied range of openness values. This means that the light-interception efficiency of shoots per unit needle dry mass was three times higher for the most shaded shoots than for sun shoots. A test of the effect of fertilization on the relationships of SNA, STAR and SMR indicated statistically significant differences in both slope and intercept for SNA and STAR, and in the intercept for SMR. However, the differences partly cancelled each other so that, at medium values of canopy openness, differences between treatments in predicted SNA, STAR and SMR were small. At 0.5 canopy openness, predicted STAR of IL shoots was 6.1% larger than STAR of C shoots, but SMR of IL shoots was 10% smaller than that of C shoots. The results suggest that light-interception efficiency per unit needle area or mass of the shoots is not greatly affected by fertilization.  相似文献

In boreal forests, canopy-scale emissions of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) are rather well characterised, but knowledge of ecosystem-scale BVOC emissions is still inadequate. We used adsorbent tubes to measure BVOCs from a boreal Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) forest floor in southern Finland and analysed the compounds with a gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer. The most abundant compound group was the monoterpenes (averaging 5.04 μg m−2 h−1), in which α-pinene, Δ3-carene and camphene contributed over 90% of the emissions. Emissions of other terpenoids (isoprene and sesquiterpenes) were low (averaging 0.05 and 0.04 μg m−2 h−1, respectively). BVOC emissions from the forest floor varied seasonally, peaking in early summer and autumn, with most of the compounds following similar patterns. The emission pattern was sustained throughout the measurement period, suggesting that the main sources of the emissions remained more or less stable. We compared the BVOC fluxes with environmental parameters such as temperature, precipitation and PAR, and with fluxes of other trace gases (CO2, CH4, N2O), as well as with ground vegetation photosynthesis and with litter input. Several of these parameters were correlated with the presence of BVOCs. The sources of soil BVOC emissions are very poorly understood, but our results suggest, that changes in litter quantity and quality, soil microbial activity and the physiological stages of plants are linked with changes in BVOC fluxes.  相似文献

Thirty strains of fungi collected from nature were investigated for their ability to grow on agar medium contaminated with Remazol Brilliant Blue R (RBBR) and 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis(4-chlorophenyl)ethane (DDT). The results showed that strain U97, later identified as Trametes versicolor, was the most active decomposer. This fungus decolorized 85?% of RBBR in 6?h and degraded 71?% of DDT in 30?days. In RBBR decolorization, high-performance liquid chromatography analysis revealed that two peaks were identified as metabolic products. Among inducers for ligninolytic enzymes, only veratryl alcohol improved RBBR decolorization and DDT degradation by 93?% and 77?%, respectively. A partial least squares method using Minitab 15 showed that lignin peroxidase exhibited a positive correlation to the abilities of T. versicolor U97 to decolorize RBBR and degrade DDT. A multivariate linear equation, with the same values of ligninolytic activity during RBBR decolorization and DDT degradation, revealed that 1?% RBBR decolorization represented 1.16?% DDT degradation. Screening with agar or liquid medium and improvement of the mathematical modeling could have practical importance in the exploitation of T. versicolor U97 for the removal of DDT on a commercial scale.  相似文献
