The objective of this study was to investigate the metabolite variations during industrial pasta processing (from semolina to dried pasta) for five different commercial products. Up to 76 metabolites were detected. Significant differences were observed between wholemeal and refined pasta samples, with the wholemeal pasta richer in many classes of compounds such as phytosterols, policosanols, unsaturated fatty acids, amino acids, carotenoids, minerals, and so on. Significant differences were also observed between samples of refined pasta apparently similar for the actual parameters used for the assessment of pasta quality. The results indicated that a number of metabolites undergo a transformation during the pasta-making process depending on the processing conditions adopted. The approach used in this work shows the high potential of metabolite profiling for food investigations with regard to process-related transformation, safety, and nutrition.  相似文献

A significant increase in the occurrence of red stripe (caused by Acidovorax avenae subsp. avenae) has been observed in the last decade in Argentina. Considering that no extensive sampling of the main sugarcane-producing area in the country has been conducted to characterize the diversity and population structure of A. avenae subsp. avenae, molecular markers were employed to analyse 112 isolates from Tucumán. By using repetitive element polymorphism-based polymerase chain reaction (rep-PCR) almost all isolates were differentiated and grouped into 10 clusters, revealing a high genetic diversity. Using the amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) technique, five pairs of isolates were discriminated that could not be distinguished with rep-PCR. Cluster analysis showed no clear association between isolate clustering, sugarcane host genotype, crop age, type of tissue sampled, fertilization, or year of sampling. Linkage equilibrium analysis by using rep-PCR data indicated that the population has some degree of clonality. Three housekeeping genes were also sequenced: ugpB and pilT sequences were highly similar to A. avenae subsp. avenae sequences from other Argentinian isolates, whereas the lepA sequence did not reveal significant similarity. An additional four housekeeping genes could not be amplified, suggesting the existence of differences in those regions. Subsequently, virulence of 14 A. avenae subsp. avenae isolates was evaluated under controlled conditions. Results showed a differential level of aggressiveness among the isolates on a resistant sugarcane variety. This study confirmed that rep-PCR is an adequate tool for genetic analysis and population structure characterization in bacteria, and revealed both high genetic diversity and clonal population structure of A. avenae subsp. avenae in Tucumán, Argentina.  相似文献

In the Mesopotamia region (Argentina), rice is cropped on a wide range of soil types, and the response of rice to fertilizer application has been inconsistent even in soils with very low levels of available phosphorus. Phosphorus transformations in flooded soils depend on soil characteristics that may affect phosphorus availability. This study was conducted to determine which soil characteristics were related to the changes in P fractions during soil flooding. Soils were chosen from ten sites within the Mesopotamia region that are included in five different soil orders: Oxisols, Ultisols, Alfisols, Mollisols, and Vertisols. Soil phosphorus (P) was fractionated by a modified Hedley method before and after a 45 d anaerobic‐incubation period. Changes in the inorganic P extracted with resin depended on soil pH and were related to the exchangeable‐Fe concentration of soils (extracted with EDTA). Inorganic P extracted with alkaline extractants (NaHCO3 and NaOH) increased due to soil flooding. This increase was related to the organic‐C (OC) percentage of soils (r2 = 0.62, p < 0.01), and ranged from 13 to 55 mg kg–1. Even though previous studies showed that P associated with poorly crystalline Fe played an important role in the P nutrition of flooded rice, in this study, there was no relationship between ammonium oxalate–extractable Fe and P changes in soils due to flooding. Our results suggest that in the Mesopotamia region, changes in P fractions due to soil flooding are related to soil OC, soil pH, and soluble and weakly adsorbed Fe.  相似文献

The physical chemistry characteristics of honey are directly related to floral origin and, as a result, to the production region. There are some available methods that can determine the botanical or geographical origin of honey such as the free amino acids profile analysis. This paper reports data on the free amino acid composition, determined by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography UV detection on 56 honey samples from three different Argentine regions, with characteristic apiarian flora. To evaluate if the quantified amino acid could be used to verify the geographical or botanical origin of honey, statistical analyses were performed. The cluster analysis showed that samples were grouped in clusters related to sampling regions and more strictly to apiarian flora around apiaries. Each cluster appears associated, in accordance with the principal component analysis, to high or low concentrations of different amino acids.  相似文献

Tall wheatgrass -Elymus elongatus (Host) Runemark- has long been used for forage production in temperate areas where salinity, alkalinity, waterlogging, or water scarcity hinder growth of other fodder species, and has a broad history of being included in revegetation programs of saline land and in wheat breeding programs. Despite its renown as a suitable species for unfavourable soil environments, the physiological mechanisms underlying its tolerance to abiotic stresses are scattered across the literature and this precludes answering the question that has motivated this review: how does tall wheatgrass endure inhospitable soil environments? The review starts with an outline of saline, alkaline and saline-alkaline soils, and their associated waterlogging or water scarcity events. This is followed by a delineation of the physiological mechanisms responsible for plant tolerance to such soils, with an emphasis on the mechanisms associated with tall wheatgrass. Briefly outlined, tall wheatgrass has shown evidence of possessing mechanisms to allow the continuity of water influx -where salinity or drought leads to reduced water availability-, strategies to avoid ion toxicity and to acquire essential nutrients, and ability to cope with high pH levels, waterlogging and excess reactive oxygen species produced as a consequence of stress. Seeking the answer to this inquiry, this review also contributes to the understanding of forage production and quality in these fragile soil environments.  相似文献

Context

A challenge devising revegetation strategies in fragmented landscapes is conserving for the widest spectrum of biodiversity. Habitat network reconstruction should improve landscape capacity to maintain species populations. However, the location of revegetation often fails to account for species occurrence and dispersal processes operating across spatial scales.

Objectives

Our objective was to integrate metapopulation theory with estimates of landscape capacity and dispersal pathways to highlight connectivity gaps. Maintenance of populations could thereby be facilitated through reconnecting habitat networks across regional and broader scales, with assumed benefit for the dispersal needs of less sensitive species.

Methods

Predicted occupancy and metapopulation capacity were calculated for a generic focal species derived from fragmentation-sensitive woodland birds, mammals and reptiles. A metapopulation connectivity analysis predicted regional dispersal links to identify likely routes through which individuals may move to contribute to the viability of the population. We used the revegetation programmes of the Brigalow–Nandewar Biolinks project, eastern New South Wales, Australia, to demonstrate our approach.

Results

Landscape capacity of the current landscape varied across the region. Low-value links between populations provided greatest opportunities for revegetation and improved landscape capacity. Where regional connectivity did not indicate a pathway between populations, broader scale connectivity provided guidance for revegetation.

Conclusions

The metapopulation-based model, coupled with a habitat dispersal network analysis, provided a platform to inform revegetation locations and better support biodiversity. Our approach has application for directing on-ground action to support viable populations, assess the impact of revegetation schemes or monitor the progress of staged implementations.

Aspergillus spp. may induce equine respiratory infections such as fungal pneumonia, guttural pouch mycosis, and systemic infection in immunocompromised individuals. This study describes a case of probable respiratory aspergillosis in a horse presenting clinical signs of the upper airway disease different from those previously reported. Nasopharyngeal swabs and guttural pouch centesis were performed, and Aspergillus flavus was isolated and identified. Following 30 days of pharmaceutical treatment with itraconazole, clinical signs resolved. Results suggested that aspergillosis should be included in the differential diagnosis of upper airway infections, guttural pouch centesis may be useful to make a correct diagnosis, and itraconazole is efficacious in the treatment of A flavus infection.  相似文献

Diversification of production is a concern for farmers in many regions of the world, raising a renewed interest in crop-animal rotations. However little information is available on whether the introduction of grazing animals in a no-till system could be a sustainable practice. The present long-term study was carried out in the semiarid region of Argentina, on an Entic Haplustoll (A, AC, C and Ck profile). The experimental plots were established in August 1993, with two treatments, no-till (NT) and conventional tillage (CT). Stubble was regularly used for grazing until 2002, when plots were divided into grazed (G) and non-grazed (NG) sub-treatments. Soil samples were taken at 0–0.10 and 0.10–0.20 m depth at the beginning of the experiment (1993) and during 2007, with the following determinations: clay + silt contents, bulk density (BD), total carbon (C), total nitrogen (N), available P, C contents of aggregate fractions of 2000–100 (POC), 100–50 (IOC) and <50 (FOC) μm diameter, aggregate size distribution and mean weight diameter change. NT showed a strong effect on all analyzed soil attributes: it had higher total carbon stocks (NT 16.6 Mg ha−1 vs. CT 13.2 Mg ha−1) and higher amounts in all C fractions, even in FOC (11.3 Mg ha−1 vs. 9.2 Mg ha−1). For BD, we found no difference between NT and CT at the surface and an even lower value for NT at 0.10–0.20 m depth. Under NT no depletion of available P occurred, while CT lost about 23 kg ha−1. Grazing had a negative effect on BD when averaging BD data across tillage systems, while there was no effect on aggregate stability, and a positive one on the proportion of >8 mm aggregates (23.3% vs. 11.7% for CT G and CT NG, respectively). C stratification showed a differential effect of grazing: NT G had the highest index (1.31) and CT G the lowest one (0.98). Our results indicated that the introduction of grazing animals in NT crop systems would not be detrimental to soil conditions and quality, at least in semiarid conditions of Argentina.  相似文献
