The hygroscopicity and thermodynamic properties of Pinus canariensis wood buried in volcanic ash, dating from 1100 BC, were studied and compared with recently felled juvenile and mature wood of the same species. The sorption isotherms were obtained by the saturated salt method at 35 and 50 °C. The isotherms were fitted using the Guggenheim–Anderson–de Boer model. The thermodynamic parameters were determined following the Clausius–Clapeyron integration method. To understand the behaviour of each type of wood, the chemical composition, infrared spectra and X-ray diffractograms were determined for each sample. The mature wood has a higher sugar content and lower extractive content than the juvenile and the buried wood. For both temperatures, the isotherm of the mature wood is above the isotherm of the juvenile wood and this, in turn, is above the isotherm of the buried wood, primarily influenced by the higher cellulose and hemicellulose contents and lower extractives content in the mature wood, resulting in a higher number of accessible –OH groups. Degradation of the buried wood due to high temperatures explains why its isotherms are below the isotherms of the recent wood. The energy involved in the desorption process is greater than in adsorption. Similarly, more energy is involved in the mature wood than in the juvenile wood, and the energy involved in the juvenile wood is greater than in the buried wood. 相似文献

Many marine species are shifting their distributions in response to changing ocean conditions, posing significant challenges and risks for fisheries management. Species distribution models (SDMs) are used to project future species distributions in the face of a changing climate. Information to fit SDMs generally comes from two main sources: fishery-independent (scientific surveys) and fishery-dependent (commercial catch) data. A concern with fishery-dependent data is that fishing locations are not independent of the underlying species abundance, potentially biasing predictions of species distributions. However, resources for fishery-independent surveys are increasingly limited; therefore, it is critical we understand the strengths and limitations of SDMs developed from fishery-dependent data. We used a simulation approach to evaluate the potential for fishery-dependent data to inform SDMs and abundance estimates and quantify the bias resulting from different fishery-dependent sampling scenarios in the California Current System (CCS). We then evaluated the ability of the SDMs to project changes in the spatial distribution of species over time and compare the time scale over which model performance degrades between the different sampling scenarios and as a function of climate bias and novelty. Our results show that data generated from fishery-dependent sampling can still result in SDMs with high predictive skill several decades into the future, given specific forms of preferential sampling which result in low climate bias and novelty. Therefore, fishery-dependent data may be able to supplement information from surveys that are reduced or eliminated for budgetary reasons to project species distributions into the future. 相似文献

The 5-n-alkylresorcinol (AR) contents of thirty different cultivars of durum wheat grown in two years (2009 and 2010) in two Italian locations were determined and related to the total soluble phenolic content (TPC) and antiradical activity (AA). On average, AR and TPC ranged from 161.3 to 405.8 μg/g (dry matter, DM) and from 19.0 to 192.4 μg/g (DM), respectively. AA (EC50 values) ranged from 70.9 to 289.2 mg of dry whole milled wheat grain (DM). The results showed that the environment (E) and the genotype (G), as well as their interactions (G × E), significantly influenced the phytochemical profiles of the samples. The contribution of G × E to the total variance was much lower than that due to the separate effects (G and E). Principal component analysis identified genotypes that were richer in ARs and more stable across environments. There were significant negative correlations between ARs and TPC (p < 0.05) and between TPC and AA (p < 0.01), but not between ARs and AA. Graphical representation was efficient in summarizing the overall antiradical profiles of the durum wheat grain in each environment. 相似文献

The effect of warm storage (15°C) for 0, 15 or 31 days, applied after cold storage until April, and date of lifting to cold
storage on the physiological condition and field performance of two-year-old oak seedlings (Quercus robur L.) was investigated. Assessments before planting included plant moisture status, root and shoot dry weight, root growth
potential (RGP), while after planting root growth, shoot growth phenology, shoot and root dry matter accumulation and stem
quality were assessed. Warm storage effects were large, but lift date effects were small. Warm storage for 31 days reduced
height and diameter growth, stem quality, total biomass, root growth, and reduced stem quality in the field, but 15 days storage
had a smaller effect. Warm storage delayed bud break and shoot growth cessation but survival was unaffected. The depletion
of food reserves during storage and low moisture availability might have caused shoot dieback leading to the development of
poor quality stems. There was evidence that dry weight fraction of both the shoot tip and the taproot provided good information
on the quality of the stock before planting. RGP was also a good indicator of quality. Electrolyte leakage readings from fine
