Mature apricots (Prunus armeniaca), nectarines [Prunus persica var. nectarine (Ait.)], and peaches [P. persica (L.) Batsch.] were subjected to a 2 min dip treatment with warm water at 48 degrees C or with fludioxonil (FLU) at 100 mg L-1 and 20 degrees C or at 25 mg L-1 FLU and 48 degrees C and then stored at 5 degrees C and 90-95% relative humidity (RH) for 1 week plus 1 additional week at 18 degrees C and approximately 80% RH. Fruit residue uptake was determined as a function of fungicide concentration, dip temperature, treatment time (only on nectarines), and fruit storage conditions. FLU residue level was closely related to fungicide concentration and treatment temperatures and was dependent on fruit species. FLU residues showed great persistence over both storage and shelf life. Fruit dipping in water at 48 degrees C effectively reduced decay development in cvs. 'May Grand' nectarines and 'Pelese' apricots but was ineffective in cvs. 'Red Top' and 'Sun Crest' nectarines during 7 days of storage compared with nontreated fruit. Decay rates in cvs. 'Glo Haven' peaches and 'Fracasso' apricots were very low in fruit dipped in water at both 20 and 48 degrees C. Fungicide treatments at 20 and 48 degrees C resulted in the total or almost total suppression of decay in all cultivars. During shelf life, fruit became very prone to decay, averaging 25.7-100% depending on the cultivar. Fruit dipping in hot water effectively reduced decay in 'Pelese' and 'Fracasso' apricots, 'Sun Crest' peaches, and 'May Grand' nectarines as compared to control, but was ineffective in 'Glo Haven' and 'Red Top' peaches. Fungicide treatments at 20 degrees C were more effective than hot water in most cultivars. The combination of FLU with water at 48 degrees C further improved the fungicide performance. Indeed, reduced levels (a fourth) of active ingredient were required to achieve a control of decay comparable to that for treatment at 20 degrees C. Residue levels in fruit after treatment with 100 mg L-1 FLU at 20 degrees C or with 25 mg L-1 FLU at 48 degrees C averaged approximately 0.6-2 mg kg-1, which were notably lower than the maximum residue limit (5 mg kg-1) allowed in the United States for stone fruit.  相似文献

Potential benefits and costs of agroforestry practices have been analysed by experts, but few studies have captured farmers’ perspectives on why agroforestry might be adopted on a European scale. This study provides answers to this question, through an analysis of 183 farmer interviews in 14 case study systems in eight European countries. The study systems included high natural and cultural value agroforestry systems, silvoarable systems, high value tree systems, and silvopasture systems, as well as systems where no agroforestry practices were occurring. A mixed method approach combining quantitative and qualitative approaches was taken throughout the interviews. Narrative thematic data analysis was performed. Data collection proceeded until no new themes emerged. Within a given case study, i.e. the different systems in different European regions, this sampling was performed both for farmers who practice agroforestry and farmers who did not. Results point to a great diversity of agroforestry practices, although many of the farmers are not aware of the term or concept of agroforestry, despite implementing the practice in their own farms. While only a few farmers mentioned eligibility for direct payments in the CAP as the main reason to remove trees from their land, to avoid the reduction of the funded area, the tradition in the family or the region, learning from others, and increasing the diversification of products play the most important role in adopting or not agroforestry systems.  相似文献

The design and implementation of the adaptive forest management (AFM) ToolBox is presented. Design principles derived from previous experiences in decision support system (DSS) development include support for (1) modularity, (2) accessibility via the Internet, (3) inclusion of different types of knowledge and information, (4) the use of different data sources, and (5) specific problem types. As major components of the AFM ToolBox DataBase, Vulnerability Assessment Tools (single user version, group mode) and an optimization tool to generate optimized management plans at the level of management units or landscapes are highlighted. A key feature is the distinction of two archetypical user profiles (manager, analyst). The AFM ToolBox is evaluated against eight criteria for the assessment of DSS. It is concluded that the ToolBox approach setting focus on modularity while avoiding to over-emphasis technical integration provides the right frame to secure the flexibility regarding tools and decision-making processes which is mandatory if a DSS should be taken up by practice.  相似文献

Modern alley cropping designs, with trees aligned in rows and adapted to operating farming machinery, have been suggested for Europe. This paper explores the potential for adoption of cork oak (Quercus suber L.) agroforestry in Portugal and estimates the potential carbon sequestration. Spatial modeling and Portuguese datasets were used to estimate target areas where cork oak could grow on farmland. Different implementation scenarios were then modeled for this area assuming a modern silvoarable agroforestry system (113 trees ha?1 thinned at year 20 for establishing 50 trees ha?1). The YieldSAFE process-based model was used to predict the biomass and carbon yield of cork oak under low and high soil water holding capacity levels. Approximately 353,000 ha are available in Portugal for new cork oak alley cropping. Assuming implementation rates between 10 % of the area with low soil water capacity (60 mm: 15 cm depth, coarse texture) and 70 % of the area with high soil water holding capacity (1,228 mm: 200 cm depth, very fine texture), then carbon sequestration could be 5 × 106 and 123 × 106 Mg CO2 respectively. Due to higher yields on more productive land, scenarios of limited implementation in high productivity locations can sequester similar amounts of carbon as wide implementation on low productivity land, suggesting that a priori land classification assessments can improve the targeting of land and financial incentives for carbon sequestration.  相似文献

In this report, we describe the biological and molecular characterization of a paramyxovirus type-1 (PPMV-1) isolate found in wild pigeons in an urban habitat in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Of the nine pigeons captured, three were moribund, and the other six showed diarrhea, ataxia, tremor, torticolis, and wing paralysis. The intracerebral pathogenicity index was 1.29, and the amino acid (aa) sequence at the fusion protein cleavage site was 112GRQ KRF117. These characteristics correspond to a virulent Newcastle disease virus isolate. Nevertheless, it was not possible to reproduce the disease in chickens experimentally although the chickens exhibited seroconversion after inoculation. On the other hand, pigeons inoculated with the isolate became sick. These results provide further evidence about the unusual pathogenicity of PPMV-1 for chickens and show once more the need for more biological determinations in these cases to arrive at a final conclusion.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the histomorphological changes that occurred in response to two treatments for oestrus synchronization in three different regions of the gilt's uterine tubes epithelium: the ampulla (AMP), ampulla–isthmic junction (AIJ) and isthmus (IST). Nine prepuberal gilts were divided into three groups (n = 3): (1) eCG 400 IU and hCG 200 IU (eCG/hCG), (2) progesterone agonist (P4) and (3) control group. The number of secretory cells (stained with periodic acid–Schiff reaction or PAS‐positive cells) decreased in the AMP in the P4 treated group when compared to the control group, whereas, no difference was observed in the number of PAS‐negative cells in the AMP of the three groups. A significant decrease in the number of PAS‐positive cells was observed in the AIJ and IST of the P4 treated group when compared to the eCG/hCG and control groups. An increase in the number of PAS‐negative cells was observed in the AIJ and IST in the P4 treated group. The epithelium height in the AMP and AIJ was increased in the eCG/hCG group when compared to the control and P4 groups. In this last group, we observed a reduced height compared with the other two groups for the AIJ. In the IST, there were no significant changes in the epithelium height of the control or the other two groups (eCG/hCG and P4). The epithelial cells of the P4 treated group had the least amount of cytoplasmic granules and the lowest intensity of PAS staining in the AMP, AIJ and IST. Animals treated with eCG/hCG showed an intermediate number of cytoplasmic granules and intensity in all regions evaluated. These data show that P4 treatment for synchronization induces a significant (P < 0.001) decrease of PAS‐positive cells and staining intensity of cytoplasmic granules in the different regions studied and an increased number of PAS‐negative cells in the AIJ and IST epithelium. Moreover, eCG/hCG treatment increased the height of the epithelium in the AMP and AIJ, while in this last region, the P4 treatment decreased the epithelium height. These results show that synchronization treatments with P4 and in a smaller proportion with eCG/hCG can modify the amount of PAS‐positive and PAS‐negative cells, and the epithelium height. This has influence in the secretory activity of the epithelium and possibly alters the fluid microenvironment of the gilt's uterine tube. The biological impact of regional variations in the epithelial cells of the gilt′s uterine tube needs further investigation to understand the implications that the reproductive processes can have in the uterine tube.  相似文献

Positive natural selection is the force that drives the increase in prevalence of advantageous traits, and it has played a central role in our development as a species. Until recently, the study of natural selection in humans has largely been restricted to comparing individual candidate genes to theoretical expectations. The advent of genome-wide sequence and polymorphism data brings fundamental new tools to the study of natural selection. It is now possible to identify new candidates for selection and to reevaluate previous claims by comparison with empirical distributions of DNA sequence variation across the human genome and among populations. The flood of data and analytical methods, however, raises many new challenges. Here, we review approaches to detect positive natural selection, describe results from recent analyses of genome-wide data, and discuss the prospects and challenges ahead as we expand our understanding of the role of natural selection in shaping the human genome.  相似文献

 The response of a series of soil microbial, chemical, and enzymatic chacacteristics to two different tillage systems (conventional and no-tillage) and two crop rotations (continuous corn and soybean–corn) was evaluated in a long-term field experiment in the Rolling Pampas Region, Marcos Juárez, Córdoba, Argentina. The parameters studied included: oxidizable, soluble and respiration C, total and hydrolyzable N, microbial activity, ammonifiers, nitrifiers, cellulolytic and total microflora, protease and urease activities. After 15 years, oxidizable C, total N and hydrolyzable N showed no differences regarding no-tillage systems. However, differences were found regarding control soil. While soluble C did not exhibit any significant differences, respiration C and microbial activity were indicators sensitive to different treatments. Enzymatic activities, protease in particular, did reflect changes due to management. Fluctuation in microbial population counts were more related to plant residues than to tillage systems.
