Two types of cDNAs encoding carp SHBGs were isolated and characterized. Northern blot analysis showed their mRNAs distributed mainly in liver, and mRNA levels were almost constant during annual reproductive cycle. The mechanism of chiiling-injury in fruits of eggplants (Solanum melongena L. cultivar ‘Hyonaga’) was investigated by determining the sugar and organic acid content during cold storage and after exposure to low temperature for various periods. Fructose, glucose and maltose were detected, and totalled more than 96% of total sugar on the initial day. Total sugar content increased to 30% higher than the initial day after 2 days of cold storage, and after that decreased gradually, while in 20° C-stored fruits it decreased sharply. Fructose, glucose and maltose increased rapidly after transfer from 1° C to 20° C. Succinic, oxalic, malic and citric acid were detected before storage. Malic and citric acid were found to be the main organic acids. The ratio of malic/citric acid in fruits stored at 1°C decreased during storage, while after storage at 20°C it increased. The ratio in fruits after transfer from 1°C to 20°C increased rapidly during the time course. The ratio of malic/citric acid ranged from 6.0 to 6.8 in healthy fruits, while it was below 5.9 or above 7.3 in chilled fruits. It is suggested that according to this ratio the degree of chilling-injury of eggplant fruits might be foreseen. 相似文献

A high prevalence of larval Echinococcus multilocularis (Em) infection was found in zoo primates in Hokkaido, Japan. In October 1997, a Japanese monkey (Macaca fuscata) died and histopathologically diagnosed as alveolar hydatidosis. Serum samples were collected from the remaining Japanese monkeys and examined for antibodies against Em by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and western blotting. Serological tests showed 12 more animals of the remaining 57 monkeys were possibly infected. Ultrasonography revealed that nine of these 12 animals had a cystic lesion in the liver. The band patterns of western blotting in the monkeys were very similar to those in human. 相似文献

To induce luteal regression-related abortion/delivery and treat pyometra in dogs, various PGF2alpha-analogues (PGAs) are administered, but a PGA most appropriate for clinical application in dogs, with a low incidence of side effects, is being investigated. In this study, we compared the effects of etiproston tromethamine (PGA-E), which has not been investigated in dogs, with those of cloprostenol (PGA-C), which is routinely used in dogs. A single dose of PGA-E at 100, 200, 400 or 800 microg or PGA-C at 12.5, 25, 50 or 100 microg was administered to beagles (n=5 per group) 25 days after ovulation, when the corpus luteum was in the functional phase. We compared the state of luteal regression by measuring plasma progesterone levels. As side effects, the incidences of salivation, vomiting, tachypnea, diarrhea and the drop in body temperature were investigated. In the 400-microg and 800-microg groups treated with PGA-E, the mean intervals from administration until luteal regression were 18.6 days and 31.2 days, respectively. In the dogs treated with 50 microg or more of PGA-C, luteal regression was noted 2 days after administration. The above side effects were observed for 3 hr after administration of PGA-E/PGA-C. In the dogs treated with 800 microg of PGA-E, the mean body temperature was 36.7 degrees C 4 hr after administration; hypothermia persisted. PGA-E may be less useful than PGA-C for promoting luteal regression in dogs in clinical application. 相似文献

To investigate the adverse effects of long-term administration of ketoprofen in dogs, ketoprofen (1 mg/kg) was administered to five clinically healthy beagle dogs (ketoprofen group) and gelatin capsules (control group) were administered to four clinically healthy beagle dogs for 30 days. We monitored the dogs through periodic physical examination, blood analyses, endoscopic examinations, fecal occult blood tests, renal function tests, urinalysis, urinary enzyme indices and cuticle bleeding time analysis. The lesions in the stomach, especially in the pyloric antrum, and fecal occult blood progressively worsened in the ketoprofen group. However, the differences between the ketoprofen group and the control group were not statistically significant. One dog in the ketoprofen group temporarily exhibited a decrease in renal plasma flow and two dogs exhibited enzymuria. However, these changes did not persist and the other examinations showed no significant difference between premedication and postmedication in the ketoprofen group. Therefore, the adverse effects of long-term administration of ketoprofen observed in this study were not clinically important in healthy dogs. Nevertheless, further investigation of adverse renal effects from long-term administration of ketoprofen is necessary in the dogs with subclinical renal disease. 相似文献

HPLC was used to analyze the content of ascorbic acid (AA) in tubers of four Korean potato cultivars (Chaju, Sumi, Deso, and Dejima), in a series of baked, boiled, braised, fried, microwaved, pressure-cooked, and sauteed potato slices from the Dejima cultivar and in 14 commercial Korean and 14 processed potato foods sold in the United States (chips, snacks, mashed potatoes, fries). The AA content for the four cultivars ranged from 16 to 46 mg/100 g of fresh weight. The distribution of AA in each of the eight potato slices (sticks, plugs) cut horizontally from the stem end of the Dejima potato ranged from 6.8 to 19.3% of the total. The corresponding distribution in seven sticks cut vertically was much narrower, ranging from 11.7 to 17.5% of the total. Losses of AA in water (pH 5.2) were significantly greater than in 5% metaphosphoric acid (pH 1.0). Less degradation occurred in water solutions of the vitamin stored at 1 degree C than at 25 degrees C. Losses of AA observed during home-processing of three varieties with low (Dejima, 16 mg/100 g), intermediate (Sumi, 32 mg/100 g), and high (Chaju, 42 mg/100 g) AA contents were as follows: boiling in water, 77-88%; boiling in water containing 1-3% NaCl, 61-79%; frying in oil, 55-79%; sauteing, 61-67%; pressure-cooking in water, 56-60%; braising, 50-63%; baking, 33-51%; and microwaving, 21-33%. The content of the Korean foods ranged from trace amounts to 25 mg/100 g and that of the U.S. foods from 0.4 to 46 mg/100 g. These results permit optimization of the vitamin C content of the diet by (a) using high-vitamin C potato varieties such as Chaju, (b) selecting sticks cut horizontally for frying, (c) baking or microwaving rather than boiling or frying, and (d) selecting commercial potato foods with a high vitamin C content. 相似文献

Masu salmon Oncorhynchus masou masou divides into two life histories after a year of life in the river, the sea-run form and the fluvial form. Since salmons are anadromous, the sea-run form salmons are known to pollute the river sediments during spawning migration. In this study, we have studied the accumulation of organochlorines in the fluvial form as well as the sea-run form, and discussed their differences. In order to elucidate the accumulation patterns of organochlorines in both the fluvial and sea-run form masu salmons, the concentrations of organochlorines were determined in the muscle of both life histories. The organochlorines in the sea-run form were 7 to 21 times higher than those of fluvial form. Since salmons are semelparous, the carcasses of polluted sea-run form pollute the river sediments. The trans-nonachlor/trans-chlordane (N/C) ratio in the fluvial form (1.93) was significantly lower than that of sea-run form (23.8). This indicates that the fluvial form is polluted by comparatively newly input chemicals. These results suggest that sea-run form masu salmons have the potential to pollute the river sediments secondarily as vectors, but from the difference in N/C ratio between the two forms, the fluvial fish does not seem to be polluted by those organochlorine compounds of sea-run fish origin yet. 相似文献
