Summary The effect of salt-stress was studied on SDS-PAGE pattern of polypeptides in seedling, leaf and siliqua tissues of four genetically stable lines (SR2P1-2, SR3P2-1, SR3P6-1 and SR3P6-2) of in vitro selected NaCl-tolerant plants, a non-selected somaclone (CP5-2) and parent variety Prakash of Brassica juncea L. Seedlings were raised in 0, 50, 100 and 150 meq/l NaCl solutions and plants were irrigated with nutrient solution with 0, 30, 60 & 90 meq/l NaCl. Salinity induced distinct genotype specific changes in polypeptide pattern of leaf and siliqua tissues, while it had no effect on the polypeptide pattern of seedlings, radicle or hypocotyl tissues in any of the lines. In leaves, at vegetative stage, a high molecular weight protein of 53.2 kD while disappered at 60 mM and higher NaCl level in cv. Prakash and SR3P2-1, it appeared in SR2P1-2 and CP5-2 only at these higher salt levels and in SR3P6 lines it was present irrespective of stress conditions. Differences were also observed for a 93.8 kD protein which appeared anew under stress in cv. Prakash, CP5-2 and SR2P1-2, while it was absent in SR-3 lines. Intensity of the 57.3 kD protein decreased in cv. Prakash, increased in SR-2 and CP-5 lines whereas remained unchanged in SR-3 lines under salt-stress. In siliquae, salt stress induced the expression of four new polypeptides (56.1–70.8 kD) at 60 mM NaCl in cv. Prakash, and at 30 mM in SR2P1-2, SR3P2-1 and SR3P6-1 lines, while these were present in CP5-2 and SR3P6-2 even in the absence of NaCl stress.  相似文献

Throughout the world ornamentation of body with mehedi (Lawsonia inermis L.) leaf paste, with the trade name ‘henna body art’ is becoming increasingly popular. The worldwide increasing demand of mehedi leaf encourages many countries to adopt commercial farming of the plant. Farmers living in central Bangladesh recently commenced small-scale mehedi farming, primarily with the purpose of meeting national demand. A total of 182 farmers are engaged in mehedi farming and a study was conducted among 36 of them (a 20% random sample) to explore indigenous management techniques, marketing, livelihood potential and constraints of the enterprise. Farming was reported to be the major primary occupation of the study area. An average of 0.05 ha land of the respondents was used for mehedi cultivation, which constituted 16.7% of their average farm land. The farmers applied their own indigenous technology in every aspect of the farming, using branch cuttings as the only propagation material. The financial analysis indicated that mehedi farming is a profitable and attractive option for rural livelihoods [with an estimated net present value of Tk (Bangladeshi currency unit, 1 US $ = 68 Taka (as of May, 2009).) 179,500 for 0.1 ha plantation]. However, the enterprise faces several constraints, including absence of a nursery for supplying planting materials, storage and effective marketing facilities, available capital for investment, improved technology, and above all, government support. If the government extends cooperation by assisting farmers with training, technology, credit and market development, mehedi farming could become an important revenue-earning enterprise in the small-scale cottage sector of Bangladesh.  相似文献

In this study, we examined the functional role of bovine herpesvirus type 1 (BHV-1) Us9 acidic domain residues 83-90 in the anterograde axonal transport of the virus in calves (natural host), rabbits, and in cultured neurons. A mutant virus strain lacking Us9 residues 83-90 (BHV-1 Us9 Δ83-90) and the rescued virus (BHV-1 Us9 R83-90) replicated efficiently in the nasal and ocular epithelium during primary infection and established latency in the trigeminal ganglia (TG). However, upon reactivation from latency, only the BHV-1 Us9 R83-90 virus was detected in nasal and ocular swabs of animals. In compartmentalized, rabbit primary dorsal root ganglia (DRG) neuron cultures, the Us9-deleted BHV-1, BHV-1 Us9 Δ83-90 and BHV-1 Us9 R83-90 viruses were transported efficiently in the retrograde direction. However, only the BHV-1 Us9 R83-90 virus was transported in an anterograde direction. These studies suggested that the Us9 acidic domain residues located between 83 and 90 were required for axonal anterograde transport.  相似文献

This study aimed to evaluate the differences between the growth patterns of large- and normal-sized Japanese quail strains and their F1 progeny, by fitting their growth parameter values to five nonlinear regression growth models (Weibull, Logistic, Gompertz, Richards, and Brody). The Richards model presented the best fit for both sexes of the large-sized quail strain, whereas the Gompertz model presented the best fit for both sexes of the normal-sized quail strain, based on goodness-of-fit criteria (higher adjusted R2 and lower Akaike and Bayesian information criteria). Both sexes of F1 birds derived from the cross between normal-sized females and large-sized males were best fitted by the Richards model. In contrast, growth parameters of the F1 birds derived from the cross between large-sized females and normal-sized males were best fitted to the Gompertz model. The data could be fitted nearly as well to the Weibull and Logistic models as to the Richards and Gompertz models. The Brody model presented the poorest fit for the growth parameter values. The results indicated that the Richards and Gompertz models could best describe the growth characteristics of both large- and normal-sized quails. Moreover, the observed growth pattern of the F1 birds was likely inherited from the male parental strain. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study comparing the growth curves of the reciprocal F1 generations with their parental strains in quails.  相似文献

A novel graft copolymer of acrylic acid onto poly(vinyl alcohol) has been synthesized and it is cross-linked by glutaraldehyde for the investigation of its efficiency in removing lead ion from aqueous solution. The chemical nature of the ion exchange resin has been elucidated with the help of chemical, spectral, and thermal analysis. Particle size, surface area, ion exchange capacity, optimum pH, time, and temperature for Pb(II) adsorption were determined. Metal ion adsorption kinetics, isotherms, and thermodynamics have been studied. A plausible mechanism for lead ion exchange has been suggested.  相似文献
