Production of sufficient high‐quality eggs of greater amberjack (Seriola dumerili) still constitutes the main bottleneck for commercial production of this species. The main objective of this study was to compare the quality of spontaneous spawn of greater amberjack with those obtained by either GnRHa injection or GnRHa implant protocols. Captive amberjack broodstock were distributed in three circular tanks of 40 m3. Broodstock from Tank 1 were not hormonally induced and spawned spontaneously, whereas those of Tank 2 were intramuscularly injected with GnRHa (20 µg/kg body weight) and those of Tank 3 were given EV‐500 µg GnRHa implants. The number of eggs per spawn obtained in the broodstock without hormonal treatment was larger than in those obtained with injections or implants. Egg quality was best in broodstock with spontaneous spawn, followed by GnRHa‐injected fish and then GnRHa implants. Besides, size of larvae from control and injected broodstock was similar between them and significantly higher (p < 0.01) than those from GnRHa implant spawn. Overall, this study showed that it is possible to obtain very high‐quality spontaneous spawn in greater amberjack, providing the adequate conditions. Furthermore, GnRHa weekly injections lead to similar egg viability and hatching rates than spontaneous spawn and higher fertilization rates than GnRHa hormonal implants, which is better than in previous studies.  相似文献

Dietary lipid source in aquaculture has become a central topic in research whilst natural resources availability diminishes. Hence, to weigh up and forecast consumers impressions, the impact of partial (70%) and complete (100%) dietary replacement of fish oil (FO) by linseed oil (LO) on sensory and quality attributes was studied during the edible shelf life of gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata). Physico‐chemical parameters (pH, torrymeter, total volatile basic nitrogen, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and texture), and sensory analysis, both in cooked and raw fish were carried out during 17 days of ice storage. Throughout ice storage, feeding with LO diets, TBARS values remained lower on muscle than those found when feeding FO control diet. On freshly caught fish (day 0 of ice storage), statistically significant dietary texture variations were recorded on cooked fillet fed FO diet. No sensory differences on Quality Index Method, sensory profile or Torry scheme were found with partial or total LO replacement diets.  相似文献

Cuphea (Cuphea viscosissima Jacq. x C. lanceolata W.T. Aiton, PSR23) is a new oilseed being developed in the north-central USA. Cuphea oil is high in medium-chain fatty acids suitable for detergent/cleaner applications and has potential for use in cosmetics. The objectives of this study were to determine the effect of seed development on seed moisture, weight, oil content, fatty acid composition, germination, and vigor. Two thousand cuphea flowers were tagged at anthesis in the field each year at Prosper, ND, in 2004, 2005, and 2006. Each flower that developed into a seed capsule was tagged and labeled with the date of anthesis. Two hundred developed capsules from the labeled flowers were harvested at 3 to 4-day intervals from 5- to 35 days post anthesis corresponding with 37 to 295 growing degree days (GDD). The GDD were calculated using a base temperature of 10 °C. Seed development required approximately 253 GDD or 30 days post anthesis to reach physiological maturity. Maximum seed germination was reached at 33 days post anthesis. Seed oil content increased and oil composition changed as seed matured. Seed oil was high in linoleic and palmitic acids from 0 to 10 days post anthesis and declined thereafter while capric acid began to accumulate at 10 days post anthesis and reached above 70% at physiological maturity.  相似文献

Cuphea (Cuphea viscosissima Jacq. × C. lanceolata f. silenoides W.T. Aiton, Lythraceae) is an oilseed crop, with medium-chain fatty acids, being developed for the North Central United States for industrial applications in the manufacture of soaps and detergents. Seed germination and seedling emergence of cuphea is often low when compared to the commercial crops. Identification of seed treatments to optimize seedling emergence and stand establishment for cuphea are important for commercial production. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of several fungicide treatments on pure live seed emergence (PLSE) of cuphea. Pure live seed emergence is defined as total seedling emergence adjusted by the germination of the seed planted. Field experiments were conducted at Prosper, ND and Glyndon, MN, in 2005 and 2006. Previous crop rotations were soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.]/hard red spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), and soybean/hard red spring wheat/sugarbeet (Beta vulgaris var. saccharifera L.) at Prosper and Glyndon, respectively, for both years. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with six treatments and four replicates. Treatments were: no fungicide applied (check treatment), captan, mefenoxam, fludioxonil + mefenoxam, azoxystrobin, and azoxystrobin + mefenoxam. Plant stand was counted and PLSE was calculated 10 to 15 d after seeding at all locations by counting emerged seedlings in the center two-plot-rows and adjusting PLSE for germination. Greenhouse experiments were conducted with soil treatments (pasteurized and non-pasteurized) and the same fungicide seed treatments as the field experiment. Pure live seed emergence, vigor index, and percent of diseased seedlings were recorded. Plant stand and PLSE were significantly greater for the seed treatments that had mefenoxam at the Glyndon, MN, environments, in which the previous crop was sugarbeet. Soil treatment (pasteurization) increased PLSE and vigor index. All fungicide seed treatments improved PLSE and vigor index and reduced damping-off compared to the untreated check. Results suggest that seed treatments including mefenoxam would be beneficial for commercial cuphea production.  相似文献

We evaluated the nutritional adequacy of 2 dry-type commercially prepared dog diets by use of a gestation/lactation/growth protocol outlined by the Association of American Feed Control Officials. Both diets were formulated to contain minimal concentrations of nutrients, compared with canine nutrient requirements listed in the 1974 or 1985 National Research Council publications. Although there were no significant differences in the performance of dogs fed either diet, only one of the diets (diet 2) passed the complete life-stage protocol test. The nutritional profile of diet 1 was only sufficient to support a claim of complete and balanced nutrition for adult maintenance. Any commercial dry dog food meeting the nutrient levels in diet 2, and of similar nutrient bioavailability, should also pass an Association of American Feed Control Officials complete life-stage protocol test.  相似文献

Seeding depth and soil packing affect pure live seed emergence of cuphea   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Cuphea viscosissima Jacq. × C. lanceolata f. silenoides W.T. Aiton is a new crop being developed in the north-central USA as an industrial oilseed crop. Adequate plant stand is essential for successful commercial production of cuphea. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of seeding date, depth and soil packing on stand establishment and subsequent crop performance. The study was conducted at Carrington and Prosper, ND, in 2005 and 2006. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with four replicates, with a split–plot arrangement, where the whole plot was a factorial arrangement (2 × 2) of two seeding dates, optimum and late, with or without soil packing after seeding. The subplot treatments were three seeding depths (surface, 13, and 25 mm). The same plot planter was used to adjust seeding depth to 13 and 25 mm. Each experimental unit had six rows 4.6-m long with a between-row spacing of 0.31 m. Traits evaluated were pure live seed emergence (PLSE), plant stand, plant height at harvest and seed yield. The main effect for seeding date did not have an effect on PLSE and resulted in adequate stands from both late May and mid June plantings averaged across environments. The seeding depth by soil packing interaction was significant for PLSE, plant stand and seed yield. Pure live seed emergence, plant stand, and seed yield were greater if the soil was packed compared with non-packed for the surface seeded treatment. The soil packing treatment did not influence PLSE, plant stand, or seed yield at the 13- and 25-mm seeding depths. Plant stands obtained from the non-packed surface and 13-mm seeding depths was adequate for high seed yield, as the plants branched to compensate for the lower plant density. Although surface seeding with packing produced satisfactory plant stands, reliance on timely rainfall is required for this to be successful. For this reason, the recommendation for seeding at the 13-mm depth without soil packing would ensure a better chance for sufficient soil water absorption by the seed to initiate germination. If surface seeding is practiced, a roller-packer to incorporate seeds and firm the seedbed after planting is recommended.  相似文献

Soil properties are one of the most important factors explaining the different toxicity results found in different soils. Although there is knowledge about the role of soil properties on the toxicity of individual chemicals, not much is known about its relevance for sewage sludge amendments. In particular little is known about the effect of soil properties on the toxicity modulation of these complex wastes. In addition, in most studies on sewage sludges the identity of the main substances linked to the toxicity and the influence of soil properties on their bioavailability remains unknown. In this study, the toxicity of a sewage sludge to the soil collembolan Folsomia candida was assessed in nine natural soils from agricultural, grassland and woodland sites, together with the OECD soil. Correlations between the relative toxicity of sludge for collembolans in the different soils and their physical and chemical soil properties were assessed in order to identify the main compounds responsible for the effects observed. Furthermore, the relationships between the toxic effects to collembolans and water-soluble ions released by sludge, pH and electric conductivity were also assessed, together with the modulating effects of soil properties.Sludge toxicity was directly linked to the water extractable ammonium, which explained most of the mortality of the collembolans, and part of the inhibition of reproduction. For the last endpoint, nitrite also contributed significantly to the inhibition observed. The varied levels in water extractable ammonium in the different soils at equal dosages seem to be, in turn, modulated by some soil properties. Higher organic carbon contents were associated with lower toxicity of sludge, both for survival and reproduction, probably related to its higher ammonium sorption capacity. In addition, for reproduction, increasing the C/N ratio and pH appeared to increase the toxicity, probably due to both the greater difficultly in nitrification and the known unsuitability of alkaline soils for this species.  相似文献
