A screening method for simultaneous immunochemical detection of aflatoxins and ochratoxin A in cereals and feed]

An immunochemical method was proposed for simultaneous determination of aflatoxin and ochratoxin A with the use of mixed solutions of the following reagents: standards of both mycotoxins, antiserums against the mycotoxins, and radioligands of 125I-aflatoxin B1 and 125I-ochratoxin A. The result of the analytical procedure is the value of concentration of the aflatoxin + ochratoxin A sum in the sample. The procedure needs half the amount of reagents as separate determination of each of the two mycotoxin, and is far less laborious. The proposed simultaneous immunoanalysis is suitable for large-are inspection of grain and feed safety from the viewpoint of aflatoxin and ochratoxin A levels.     

Influence of estrus synchronization of prepubertal gilts on embryo quality

Synchronization and superovulation are commonly used to obtain large numbers of embryos for experimental and practical purposes. This study compared the number, quality, and in vitro development of embryos recovered from gilts following single or double estrus synchronization and superovulation. Prepubertal gilts from the single synchronization group were injected with 1500 I.U. PMSG and 1000 I.U. hCG 72 h later. The double synchronized group of gilts was treated with 750 I.U. PMSG and 500 I.U. hCG 72 h later. After 17 days, 1500 I.U. PMSG followed by 1000 I.U. hCG was administered. Five days after insemination embryos were recovered and cultured for 6 days. Decorin concentrations in canine normal and neoplastic mammary gland tissues

In the present study, the concentration of decorin in canine normal and neoplastic mammary gland tissues was examined to understand the potential role of decorin in development and progression of canine mammary tumours. The homogenates of 48 mammary gland tumours (10 benign and 38 malignant) and 10 samples of normal canine mammary gland tissue were used in the study. The presence and quantification of decorin was examined in the homogenates using Western blot and specific canine ELISA. Western blotting confirmed the presence of decorin both in the normal mammary gland tissues and in the mammary gland tumours. The concentration of decorin was significantly higher (p < .05) in the benign tumours and non-metastatic malignant tumours than in the normal mammary gland. The concentration of decorin was significantly lower (p < .05) in the malignant tumours with metastasis to regional lymph nodes compared with benign tumours and non-metastatic malignant tumours. No significant differences were found in the level of decorin between the benign and the non-metastatic malignant tumours. Both the histological type of malignant tumours and the histological grade did not significantly affect the concentration of decorin. These findings suggest that neoplastic transformation in the canine mammary gland leads to increase in the decorin protein synthesis. The reducing decorin concentration in canine malignant mammary tumours appears to facilitate the metastatic spread of these tumours.     

Effects of ions on the motility of fresh and demembranate spermatozoa of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) and paddlefish (Polyodon spathula)

In the present study was summarize the factors activating and/or inhibiting the motility of intact and/or demembranated spermatozoa of common carp and paddlefish as teleostean and chondrostean models using methods of sperm demembranation. The movement of spermatozoa of cyprinids species, common carp, is influenced by osmotic pressure or high concentration of ions. The movements of spermatozoa of chrondrostean species, paddlefish, are under reciprocal control by the concentration of K⁺ and Ca²⁺.
