Saponins containing a free carboxylic group in the molecule give the corresponding esters as artifacts when stored for a long time in alcoholic solutions. Two saponins from Medicago sativa L., chosen on the basis of their different positions of the carboxylic group in the molecule, were refluxed with methanol and ethanol under neutral conditions. 3,28-di-O-glu medicagenic acid possesses a carboxylic group on the triterpenic moiety, whereas soyasaponin I, a glycoside of soyasapogenol B, has a glucuronic acid unit as the first sugar linked to the triterpene structure. Artifacts were quantified by HPLC. The peaks identified as the corresponding esters were examined during boiling from 1 h to 5 days. Quantitative results indicated that the carboxylic group on the sugar moiety, as for soyasaponin I, is more reactive than that on the triterpenic structure, as for 3,28-di-O-glu medicagenic acid. Saponins having the free carboxylic groups create enough acidity in their alcoholic solutions to catalyze the formation of the corresponding esters. 相似文献

Heavy metal contents in forest soils of North Rhine-Westphalia - classification and cartographic evaluation Many forest areas in North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) are contaminated with heavy metals. To evaluate this pollution of forest soils and its geographical distribution all available literature data on total heavy metal contents in forest soils of North Rhine-Westphalia were included in this study. The results show that an accumulation of heavy metals, especially of Pb, occurred in the litter layer and in the litter layer and in the topsoil. The highest values were measured in the vicinity of industrial areas and at elevated locations such as Egge Mountains and Teutoburger Forest. About 50 % of the samples from the litter layer and the topsoil have pH values below 3. 4. Since the translocation of heavy metals in the soil profile at this low pH increases, potential risk from the mobilization of high stores in the litter layer was estimated for several locations of North Rhine-Westphalia. 相似文献

Eighteen triterpene saponins (1-18) from Medicago arborea leaves have been isolated and their structures elucidated by spectroscopic, spectrometric (1D and 2D NMR, FAB-MS, ESI-MS/MS), and chemical methods. In seeking effective methods to prevent soil degradation, conservation tillage plays an important protective role. Apart from significantly reducing production costs, cover crops contributes to beneficial changes in the soil environment. A three-year field experiment included three cover crops (winter rye, winter oilseed rape, and white mustard) subjected to mulching or desiccation and to the action of a herbicide at three rates (100%, 75%, and 50%). The study evaluated soil moisture and the content of organic matter, phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium in two soil layers (0–15?cm and 15–30?cm). Cover cropping had a positive effect on soil organic matter content. More organic matter (by 4.7%) was recorded in the topsoil layer (0–15?cm). Among the cover crops most favorable effect on the content of organic matter in the soil had white mustard (an increase of 14.2%) compared to the control. Moreover, rye and white mustard mulch increased the soil content of phosphorus and magnesium, while oilseed rape mulch increased the potassium content. At the critical growth stages (the flowering/pod set) of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merril), soil moisture was dependent on mulching treatment and soil layers. 相似文献

We propose coefficients for regressions relating dry weight to body or tergite length in Folsomia candida, Entomobrya schoetti, Sminthurus viridis, and Hypogastrura vernalis (Collembola). Measurements were made on large batches of preserved, identified specimens. Batches were dessicated completely by critical-point drying and weighed. Variation in host plant performance among populations of a phytophagous insect pest is a potential threat to the durability
of host plant resistance. Aggressive biotypes may overcome the protective properties of formerly resistant cultivars. Therefore,
it is of interest to study such variation in breeding programs for host plant resistance to insects. In the present study,
the performance of ten populations of Frankliniella occidentalis, the western flower thrips, was determined on a susceptible
and a partially resistant cultivar of chrysanthemum, Dendranthema grandiflora. Damage, reproduction, and adult survival were
determined using an excised leaf assay. Significant differences between the two cultivars and among the ten populations were
found for all three characteristics. In general, damage, reproduction and adult survival were reduced on the resistant cultivar
when compared to the susceptible cultivar. Some populations showed, in comparison to the reference population from the Netherlands,
much higher damage and reproduction on one or both chrysanthemum cultivars. But also in these populations performance on the
resistant cultivar was poor compared to the susceptible cultivar.

The impact of county-level bamboo sector reforms on bamboo contributions to the county economy is examined by using aggregate county data and simple analytical methods. The role of the contributions of bamboo to the different income groups is evaluated on the basis of data, for 1987 and 1997, from 46 households and by using Gini coefficients, relative and absolute inequality weights, and movements of households through different income groups. Fresh bamboo shoot (FBS) production increased from US$0.1 million in 1983 to US$29 million in 1996. Allocation of labor and capital reached near optimal by the end of the first phase of forestland reforms in 1987. Industrial reforms could affect land allocation through price incentives. Market reforms had a much higher impact through price incentives on land allocation. Bamboo contributions have benefited poor as well as rich groups, and these contributions have moved many households from the poorer to the richer classes. Bamboo sector reforms have reduced the inequality in bamboo land and bamboo income but the share of bamboo income in the total income inequality has increased. The local governments should recognize these outcomes and the basic differences in the production of different bamboo products to design future reforms. 相似文献
