Heavy metal contents in forest soils of North Rhine-Westphalia - classification and cartographic evaluation Many forest areas in North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) are contaminated with heavy metals. To evaluate this pollution of forest soils and its geographical distribution all available literature data on total heavy metal contents in forest soils of North Rhine-Westphalia were included in this study. The results show that an accumulation of heavy metals, especially of Pb, occurred in the litter layer and in the litter layer and in the topsoil. The highest values were measured in the vicinity of industrial areas and at elevated locations such as Egge Mountains and Teutoburger Forest. About 50 % of the samples from the litter layer and the topsoil have pH values below 3. 4. Since the translocation of heavy metals in the soil profile at this low pH increases, potential risk from the mobilization of high stores in the litter layer was estimated for several locations of North Rhine-Westphalia. 相似文献

Eighteen triterpene saponins (1-18) from Medicago arborea leaves have been isolated and their structures elucidated by spectroscopic, spectrometric (1D and 2D NMR, FAB-MS, ESI-MS/MS), and chemical methods. They have been identified as glycosides of medicagenic, zanhic, and 2beta-hydroxyoleanolic acids, soyasapogenol B, bayogenin, and 2beta,3beta-dihydroxyolean-12-en-23-al-28-oic acid. In seeking effective methods to prevent soil degradation, conservation tillage plays an important protective role. Apart from significantly reducing production costs, cover crops contributes to beneficial changes in the soil environment. A three-year field experiment included three cover crops (winter rye, winter oilseed rape, and white mustard) subjected to mulching or desiccation and to the action of a herbicide at three rates (100%, 75%, and 50%). The study evaluated soil moisture and the content of organic matter, phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium in two soil layers (0–15?cm and 15–30?cm). Cover cropping had a positive effect on soil organic matter content. More organic matter (by 4.7%) was recorded in the topsoil layer (0–15?cm). Among the cover crops most favorable effect on the content of organic matter in the soil had white mustard (an increase of 14.2%) compared to the control. Moreover, rye and white mustard mulch increased the soil content of phosphorus and magnesium, while oilseed rape mulch increased the potassium content. At the critical growth stages (the flowering/pod set) of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merril), soil moisture was dependent on mulching treatment and soil layers. 相似文献

We propose coefficients for regressions relating dry weight to body or tergite length in Folsomia candida, Entomobrya schoetti, Sminthurus viridis, and Hypogastrura vernalis (Collembola). Measurements were made on large batches of preserved, identified specimens. Batches were dessicated completely by critical-point drying and weighed. Fifteen potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) clones with varying resistance to cold-induced sweetening were analysed for vacuolar acid invertase (AcInv, EC 3.2.1.26) and UDP-Glc pyrophosphorylase (UGPase; EC 2.7.7.9) activities related to their ability to accumulate sugars following cold storage (4 C). The UGPase isozyme profiles for each clone were also determined. Immunoblot analysis demonstrated a 55 kD protein, in seven of the 15 clones, that reacted with UGPase antisera in addition to the 53 kD UGPase subunit previously reported. The UGPase activity of these clones was significantly lower than that of the “single subunit” clones. Basal AcInv activity showed a positive correlation to the Glc:Suc ratio across the clones that was moderately significant before and after cold temperature storage. The activity of UGPase, which limits the rate of Suc formation, was of secondary importance in limiting the rate of hexogenesis when vacuolar AcInv activity was excessive. It is suggested that with the potato clones from this breeding program that AcInv (and its inhibitor) plays a dominant role in the hexogenic pathway by regulating the hexose:Suc ratio. The finding of a new protein that is reactive with UGPase antisera may prove to play an important function in the regulation of Suc formation in potatoes. 相似文献

Two broad classes of models have been proposed to explain the patterning of the proximal-distal axis of the vertebrate limb (from the shoulder to the digit tips). Differentiating between them, we demonstrate that early limb mesenchyme in the chick is initially maintained in a state capable of generating all limb segments through exposure to a combination of proximal and distal signals. As the limb bud grows, the proximal limb is established through continued exposure to flank-derived signal(s), whereas the developmental program determining the medial and distal segments is initiated in domains that grow beyond proximal influence. In addition, the system we have developed, combining in vitro and in vivo culture, opens the door to a new level of analysis of patterning mechanisms in the limb. 相似文献

The use of artificial insemination in cattle breeding has evolved to global extent, and insemination doses are often shipped via air transport which requires strict radiation‐based examinations. For the determination of effect of non‐ionizing radiation (NIR), to which are beings frequently exposed due to protection of airport or cultural event security, freshly ejaculated and cryopreserved bovine spermatozoa were used as experimental model. Following radiation with hand‐held metal detector in various exposition times (0, 10 s, 15, 30 and 60 min—groups FR, FR10, FR15, FR30 and FR60) the spermatozoa underwent motility and DNA fragmentation analyses. Study on cryoconserved semen treated with NIR was performed in time intervals 0, 10 s, 1 and 5 min (insemination doses radiated before cryoconservation—CB, CB10, CB1, CB5; samples radiated after freezing—CA, CA10, CA1 and CA5). Fresh semen and insemination doses radiated after cryoconservation showed significantly lower total and progressive motility. No effect on motility parameters was detected in semen extended with cryopreservative medium and radiated prior to freezing. Surprisingly, NIR showed a potential to stimulate spermatozoa velocity; however, the effect was modulated throughout the post‐thawing incubation. Based on the DNA fragmentation assay, sperm DNA stayed intact. Present study underlines the potential harm of NIR, which is frequently used in everyday life, with overall adverse impact on human and animal reproduction.
