The effects of late weeding treatment on the growth of young hinoki (Chamaecyparis obtusa) during the sixth growing season after planting were examined. Furthermore, the contribution toward hinoki growth recovery of crown productivity (NAR) and biomass allocation to crown (CAR) were determined. In the late weeding plot, no decline in height growth was observed subsequent to weeding, and growth in diameter at breast height (DBH) and crown projection area (CPA) began to recover subsequent to weeding; however, DBH and CPA were reduced and experienced a 1- to 1.5-year growth delay compared to values associated with the weeding plot at the end of the second year subsequent to weeding. Relative growth rate (RGR) and NAR in the late weeding plot recovered and possessed similar values to those of the weeding plot in the second year subsequent to weeding. CAR values of the late weeding plot were similar to those of the weeding plot both before and after weeding. These results suggested that the recovery of NAR rather than that of CAR was primarily responsible for the recovery of RGR. The present study demonstrated that hinoki were able to quickly acclimate to an environment dramatically altered by late weeding and recover growth rate within a short period of time. The present study also showed that delays in crown expansion associated with late weeding may have impeded subsequent matter production. A suspension of low-quality dried nori processed from Porphyra yezoensis, a red alga, was autoclaved at 120 degrees C for 30 min, and from the supernatant, five preparations of porphyran of differing molecular masses and chemical compositions were obtained by preprecipitation with ethanol at stepwise-increasing concentrations of 50 and 67% followed by size-exclusion chromatography. The porphyran preparations exhibited a high emulsifying activity index and high emulsion stability over a wide range of pH and temperature and also in the presence of sodium chloride. An adequately high coefficient of correlation between the median diameter of oil droplets and their 3,6-anhydrogalactose content suggests that 3,6-anhydrogalactose could take part in emulsification with porphyran. 相似文献

The physicochemical properties of potassium guaiacol-4-sulfonate (I) and -5-sulfonate (II) have been investigated. Analyses of the X-ray diffraction patterns, infrared spectra, and thermogravimetric and differential scanning calorimetric curves showed that I occurs as crystals that are anhydrous or hydrated up to 2/3 mole (4.8%) and that II occurs as crystals that are anhydrous or dihydrated (13.5%). Solutions of I and II at various pH values showed almost the same UV spectra at less than pH 6.0 but very different UV spectra greater than pH 7.0. Most commercially available potassium guaiacolsulfonate consists predominantly of potassium guaiacol-4-sulfonate (as determined by UV-absorption measurements and liquid chromatography). 相似文献

The first chordates appear in the fossil record at the time of the Cambrian explosion, nearly 550 million years ago. The modern ascidian tadpole represents a plausible approximation to these ancestral chordates. To illuminate the origins of chordate and vertebrates, we generated a draft of the protein-coding portion of the genome of the most studied ascidian, Ciona intestinalis. The Ciona genome contains approximately 16,000 protein-coding genes, similar to the number in other invertebrates, but only half that found in vertebrates. Vertebrate gene families are typically found in simplified form in Ciona, suggesting that ascidians contain the basic ancestral complement of genes involved in cell signaling and development. The ascidian genome has also acquired a number of lineage-specific innovations, including a group of genes engaged in cellulose metabolism that are related to those in bacteria and fungi. 相似文献

Membranous glomerulonephropathy can be experimentally induced in rats, but spontaneous
cases have been rarely reported. In this report, we present a typical case of spontaneous
membranous glomerulonephropathy in a rat. A male Hatano low-avoidance (LAA) strain rat had
a tumor mass on the right auricle, and was sacrificed at 41 weeks of age. Urinary
screening by reagent strips revealed intense proteinuria. Histological tests revealed
frequent presence of irregularly sized eosinophilic hyaline materials on the capillary
wall and in the mesangium of renal glomeruli. Immunofluorescence revealed granular
deposits of IgG, IgM, and C3 in the glomeruli. Subepithelial dense deposits were observed
by electron microscopy accompanied by podocyte foot process effacement and occasional
irregular thickening of the glomerular basement membrane. The rat also developed chronic
lymphocytic pancreatitis, and the tumor mass on the right auricle was diagnosed as a
fibrosarcoma. Screening tests for antibodies against major infectious agents and
antinuclear antibody were negative. Western blot and indirect immunofluorescence analyses
suggested the presence of an autoantibody against the pancreatic component. The

Pueraria is an herbaceous, perennial legume crop originating in Asia. Pueraria phaseoloides (Roxb.) Benth. (tropical kudzu) is frequently introduced into production systems and is used as green manure, a cover crop and a forage plant, making it important economically. We used P. phaseoloides as a trap crop to study and characterize soil rhizobia in Eastern Cameroon. Bacteria were isolated from fresh nodules collected from field-grown P. phaseoloides roots. The 16S-23S rRNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences from 30 bacterial isolates were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and the reaction products were sequenced. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that all isolates were ascribed to the genus Bradyrhizobium and were grouped into three clusters of Bradyrhizobium sp. strains, one cluster of B. yuanmingense strains, and one cluster of B. elkanii strains. Acetylene reduction assay (ARA) results indicated that the B. yuanmingense strains had significantly higher nitrogen fixation potential and that they could be used as inoculants to enhance nitrogen fixation in Pueraria grown in Eastern Cameroon. 相似文献

The starch and protein properties of rice grain are important factors for sake brewing and these properties are reported to be influenced by temperatures during grain ripening. Amylose content, nitrogen content, protein composition, pasting properties measured by a Rapid Visco Analyser (RVA), and their relationship to temperatures during ripening were investigated in a rice cultivar, Yamadanishiki, which was grown under various conditions in the same experimental field. The average temperature after heading was significantly correlated with amylose content and RVA properties, but not with nitrogen content. Under high temperatures during ripening, a decrease in prolamin, which accumulated in type I protein body (PB-I), and an increase in glutelin, which deposits in type II PB (PB-II), were recognized. The ratio of PB-II/PB-I and RVA pasting temperatures were distinctly increased as the temperature became higher. High temperatures during grain ripening would lead to difficulties in digesting steamed rice grains by Aspergillus oryzae, together with ease in digesting rice protein. The average temperature of 11–20 days after heading showed a higher correlation coefficient than that of 1–10 or 21–30 days, implying that temperatures during the middle stage of grain development would be important in determining the rice component that relates to brewing properties. 相似文献
