Two cadmium-resistant bacteria, Ralstonia sp. TAK1 and Arthrobacter sp. TM6, produced exopolymers that promoted cadmium solubilization in contaminated soil. The enhancement of cadmium uptake and accumulation in a monocot (Vetiveria nemoralis, vetiver grass) and a dicot (Ocimum gratissimum, African basil) was investigated in a greenhouse study. Compared with the uninoculated control, Ralstonia sp. TAK1 and Arthrobacter sp. TM6 increased cadmium accumulation in the roots and shoots of V. nemoralis. These cadmium-resistant bacteria increased the cadmium content of whole V. nemoralis plants similarly to ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) treatment alone. In contrast, only Arthrobacter sp. TM6 enhanced cadmium accumulation in the roots and shoots of O. gratissimum. The highest cadmium content of whole O. gratissimum plants was observed when the plant was treated with EDTA following treatment with Arthrobacter sp. TM6. The phytoextraction coefficient and translocation factor (TF) of bacteria-inoculated V. nemoralis were higher than those of O. gratissimum. Arthrobacter sp. TM6 increased the phytoextraction coefficients and TFs in V. nemoralis and O. gratissimum. These results indicate that Arthrobacter sp. TM6 and both tested plant species promote cadmium phytoextraction in contaminated soil.  相似文献

Summary Earthworm burrows of endogeic species (Allolobophora caliginosa, Octolasium cyaneum) in artificially packed soil columns were examined using X-ray computed tomography. By means of digital image processing, it was possible to reconstruct and visualize the burrow system in three dimensions. The reconstruction revealed morphological features of the burrows which were not obvious from two-dimensional section images.  相似文献

Verticilium spp. were present in over 60% of potato fields in Clay, Marshall, Norman, and Polk Counties in the Red River Valley in Minnesota. ThreeVerticillium spp. were isolated from 27% of the potato stems collected in commercial fields during 1968–1972.Verticillium alboatrum andV. dahliae were recovered from infected stems in approximately equal amounts (51% to 47%), butV. nigrescens was recovered from less than 2% of all host-infected plants. Summary In an outdoor experiment the distribution of earthworms (Lumbricus spp., Allolobophora spp.) under different plant species was studied. Earthworms avoid uncovered areas, but show different reactions under vegetation. This effect reappears in the same manner every year. A particular preference was shown for clover whereas onion was least preferred. Possible reasons for this behaviour are the extent of covering, the moisture regime and exudates of the plants. To study the canine immune system we generated a mouse model engrafted with canine lymphocytes using NOD SCID IL2R common gamma chain ?/? (NSG) mice as recipients (Ca-PBL-SCID). Engraftment of canine peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBLs) was determined post-injection with 107 peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) into irradiated NSG mice using flow cytometry and fluorescently labeled antibodies specific to canine helper T cells (CD45+ CD4+), cytotoxic lymphocytes (CD45+ CD8+), regulatory T cells (CD45+ CD4+ Foxp3+), and B cells (CD45+ Ig+ CD21lo). Canine CD45+ lymphocytes were detectable as early as day 1 in the peritoneal cavity, and beginning at 9 days in the blood, bone marrow, and spleen. CD4+ T cells, of which Foxp-3+ CD25hi cells constituted a minor percentage, were the predominant lymphocyte population at 9 days post engraftment contrasting with increasing proportions of CD8+ CTL's and Ig+ B cells beginning at 16 days. Canine immunoglobulin was initially detected in the serum of Ca-PBL-SCID mice at 9 days post-engraftment and peaked in concentration at day 36. From day 28 to 52 post-engraftment 30% of the Ca-PBL-SCID mice became markedly anemic and thrombocytopenic, yet gross and histopathologic examination of bone marrow, kidneys, spleen, liver, and intestine revealed no obvious lesions. Blood smear evaluation revealed agglutination of mature red blood cells, reticulocytes and a regenerative anemia. These findings demonstrate that NSG mice are capable of engraftment of canine PBLs yet develop graft versus host disease similar to Hu-PBL-SCID mice.  相似文献
