The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of two dry extruded diets on growth and nutritional composition of digestive gland (DG) and muscle of Octopus vulgaris. Both artificial diets (FMK and 3FMK) were composed of gelatin, maltodextrin, yolk, fish and krill meal. The 3FMK diet contained more fishmeal (3×) than the FMK diet. These diets were compared with a control frozen diet consisting of golden grey mullet (Liza aurata) and crab (Liocarcinus depurator). The 3FMK diet promoted higher intakes and feed efficiency than FMK diet, resulting in larger growths (296 respect to 158 g in 42 days; 0.81% vs. 0.78% body weight/day). There was significantly lower moisture, protein and ash content in digestive glands of animals fed pellets (P < 0.05). No significant differences were observed on nutritional composition of muscle among the three groups. Even though the results were still below those of the control group (increase of 1258 g), the good performance in terms of acceptance and growth showed that this extruded diet can be the starting point to develop a commercial feed for this species.  相似文献

The present work studies the growth and body composition of 18 Octopus vulgaris (6 per treatment) fed two extruded diets, namely FMS and 3FMS, based on different fish and squid meal ratios (1:1, and 3:1 respectively). The diets are compared with a control diet based on crab (Carcinus mediterraneus) and bogue (Boops boops). The growing tests were conducted on animals placed in individual 300 L rectangular fibreglass tanks in an open seawater system, containing PVC tubes as shelters, resulting in 100% survival rate. The control group exhibited the highest specific growth rates (SGR = 2.14%BW day?1), while values of around 0.69%BW day?1 were achieved by octopuses fed the extruded diets. Even though the three groups of animals showed similar digestive gland indexes, the two extruded diets promoted significant differences in the muscle composition and fatness of the digestive gland. Digestibility of dry matter was not affected by the type of extruded diet, obtaining ADC values of around 88%. The results suggest that squid and fish meal can be both used in dry pelleted extruded diets, with moderate acceptance by the octopus, even though the formulation must be optimized with the aim of improving acceptability and achieve growths in the range of natural diets.  相似文献

Solanum pimpinellifolium, due to its close relationship to S. lycopersicum, has been a genetic source for many commercially important tomato traits. It is a wild species found in the coastal areas of Peru and Ecuador. In this study, the genetic variation of S. pimpinellifolium was studied using the diversity found in 10 microsatellites in 248 plants spread throughout its entire distribution area, including Ecuador, which has been underrepresented in previous studies. Peruvian and Ecuadorian accessions are genetically quite differentiated. A possible cause of these differences could be the non-uniform nature of the coastal Ecuadorian and Peruvian climates, seeing as an important correlation between genetic differentiation and climate has been found. In addition, Ecuadorian and south Peruvian accessions have a lower genetic diversity and a higher homozygosity due to their higher autogamy, lower population size, and possible colonization bottlenecks. The Galápagos Islands population is an extreme case, with no diversity, likely caused by a recent colonization from the northern continental Ecuadorian region where genetically identical plants have been found. Tomato breeders have hitherto selected for yield, uniformity and disease resistance rather than for internal qualities such as taste that depend on appropriate amounts and proportions of many different constituents. In order to improve internal quality it is necessary to find balanced donor parents with high contents of these individual constituents in order to develop this strategy. A methodology to evaluate all constituents together is also necessary. This work characterizes and classifies accessions of Lycopersicon to assist the selection of parents for several internal qualities. Thirty-eight accessions of L. esculentum, L. pimpinellifolium, L. hirsutum, L. pennellii and L. peruvianum have been studied, and their taste and vitamin C content characteristics have been measured. Some of the variables studied are complex since many chemical constituents are involved (pH, °Brix (SSC), titratable acidity), whereas other variables are individual constituents (vitamin C, oxalic acid, malic acid, citric acid, fructose, glucose and sucrose). Therefore, individual taste components in Lycopersicon accessions have been analysed by using precise analytical techniques (capillary zone electrophoresis) and statistical methods (principal component, cluster and GGE biplot analyses) for comparisons to be made not only among these, but also among controls (four breeding lines and one commercial hybrid). All analyses performed have allowed both for a good classification and for a selection of materials to be made. Two L. pimpinellifolium accessions are very interesting to use as donor parents in the first steps of tomato taste breeding programmes, since they are balanced and have shown three times the taste intensity of controls. Furthermore, characterization by individual constituents (citric, malic, oxalic and ascorbic acids, glucose, fructose, sucrose, etc.) has been found to be a precise tool to classify and select Lycopersicon germplasm for internal quality attributes.  相似文献

Breeding for more phosphorus (P)-efficient crops is one strategy to reduce the use of P fertilizers, thus mitigating the environmental and economic impacts of agriculture. Variation in root architecture and the response to P deficiency were studied in C. melo. Forty accessions representing genetic diversity within the species were screened for their root systems in normal and deficient P conditions at the seedling stage. Various parameters of P-uptake and P-use were analyzed in a subset of accessions at 40 days. Significant differences in root architecture were observed, with the taproot systems prevailing among the wild and exotic accessions, and more branched root systems in cultivated stocks. Moreover, differences in the plastic response of roots to P starvation were observed. Variation in different P-use and -uptake traits correlated with the root architecture. Within ssp. melo, the inodorus and flexuosus landraces had larger and more branched roots and more efficient P-uptake, thereby providing a close genepool for breeding. Within ssp. agrestis, conomon and momordica accessions can be sources of interest for the enhancement of variation in root architecture and P-use efficiency into cultivated melons. Therefore, the diversity observed within C. melo species could be useful in breeding P-efficient melon cultivars.  相似文献

Summary

Melon vine decline (MVD) is a complex disease for which only a few genotypes of Cucumis melo have been described as being tolerant. These genotypes were selected under different inoculum conditions, and little is known about the morphological or biochemical mechanisms of their tolerance to MVD. In order to study the tolerance mechanisms acting in different resistant sources, we conducted a comparative analysis of three tolerant (‘Doublon’, ‘Deltex’, and ‘Pat 81’) and two susceptible (‘Piel de Sapo’ and ‘Amarillo Canario’) melon cultivars. Their responses to non-infested soils, naturally infested soils, and soils artificially inoculated with the principal causal agents of MVD – Monosporascus cannonballus and Acremonium cucurbitacearum – were studied in pots in a greenhouse, and the results were compared with their field responses. We performed a combined study on lesions, root architecture, and root:vine balance. A combination of all of these traits can predict the level of MVD tolerance in infested fields better than the severity of root lesions alone. These features should be taken into account in breeding programmes for resistance to MVD.  相似文献

The volatile constituents of 10 clones (4 parents with different flavors and 6 hybrids from selected crossings among these parents) of pepino fruit (Solanum muricatum) were isolated by simultaneous distillation-extraction and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Odor-contributing volatiles (OCVs) were detected by GC-olfactometry-MS analyses and included 24 esters (acetates, 3-methylbutanoates, and 3-methylbut-2-enoates), 7 aldehydes (especially hexenals and nonenals), 6 ketones, 9 alcohols, 3 lactones, 2 terpenes, beta-damascenone, and mesifurane. Among these compounds, 17, of which 5 had not been reported previously in pepino, were found to contribute significantly to pepino aroma. OCVs can be assigned to three groups according to their odor quality: fruity fresh (acetates and prenol), green vegetable (C6 and C9 aldehydes), and exotic (lactones, mesifuran, and beta-damascenone). Quantitative and qualitative differences between clones for these compounds are clearly related to differences in their overall flavor impression. The positive value found for the hybrid-midparent regression coefficient for volatile composition indicates that an important fraction of the variation observed is inheritable, which has important implications in breeding for improving aroma. Significant and positive correlations were found between OCVs having common precursors or related pathways.  相似文献

Melon vine decline causes severe economic losses to melon crops all over the world. Two fungi. Acremonium cucurbitacearum and Monosporascus cannonballus, have been reported as the main causal agents of root damage, responsible for the decrease in root water and nutrient uptake capacity. However, melon vine decline aetiology is not completely understood, so screening assays must be conducted under natural infestation conditions. In field assays, the erratic effect of uncontrolled environmental factors makes the study of the trait's genetics difficult. The percentage of asymptomatic plants scored at individual moments during the infection process in the field is an imprecise indicator of the resistance level of each genotype. The analysis of disease progress curves does allow for the minimization of the stochastic fluctuations caused by environmental factors at various moments in time. Using this analysis the mode of inheritance of the partial resistance to melon vine decline derived from the accession Pat 81 of Cucumis melo var. agrestis was further studied. Data from the six generations assayed (susceptible and resistant parents. F1, F2, and backcrosses BC1 and BC2 were fitted to an additive/dominance model without epistatic effects using a scaling test. Monogenic control was proposed as the simplest model to explain the data. Assuming this simple model, the method of analysis also allowed for the characterization of the incomplete penetrance of resistance, which varies as a log probit function of the time. Simple genetic control would simplify the use of Pat 81 in breeding programmes aimed at developing commercial melon varieties with resistance to vine decline.  相似文献

Spanish striped eggplants (Solanum melongena L.) are generally known as Listada. Among them, the most internationally renowned is the Listada de Gandía heirloom. Enhancement and legal protection of these local materials requires the analysis of their characteristics, diversity and relationships with similar accessions. We performed a morphological, agronomic and molecular (amplified fragment length polymorphism; AFLP) characterization of 33 eggplant accessions, which included 20 Striped accessions, of which nine were Spanish (five Listada de Gandía and four of Other Spanish Listada), 11 non-Spanish (six of Non-Spanish Listada and five of Other Non-Spanish Striped) and 13 Non-Striped accessions. The Striped accessions presented a range of morphological, agronomic and genetic diversity comparable to the one observed in the Non-Striped accessions. Multivariate PCA (morphological) and PCoA (molecular) analyzes group together the Listada accessions, and clearly separate the three Listada subgroups (Listada de Gandía, Other Spanish Listada and Non-Spanish Listada). On the other hand, the Other Non-Spanish Striped accessions are closer to Non-Striped than to Listada accessions. Listada eggplants, as well as each of their subgroups, are characterized by a syndrome of morphological traits that allows distinguishing them from other accessions. Furthermore, AFLP markers which allow distinguishing Listada accessions and the Listada de Gandía heirloom have been found. The agronomic characterization shows that despite the low diversity within Listada de Gandía group, it is possible to select accessions with improved agronomic performance. The results obtained have important implications for the conservation, improvement and legal protection of Spanish striped eggplants, and in particular of the Listada de Gandía heirloom. The methodology and approaches used may provide a model for the enhancement and protection of other vegetable crops heirlooms.  相似文献
