Whiteflies are one of the major pests in greenhouse cultivation. Traditional methods of pest control involve the use of pesticides, which may lead to the emergence of resistive vermin. Therefore and in the context of growing health- and environmental awareness alternative ways of pest control should be considered. One alternative approach is the deployment of natural antagonists to the vermin. An effective use of those organisms within pest control requires studies on their biology, their behaviour and their climatic tolerance. Biology and behaviour of the studied insects are presented in a synopsis of the scientific literature. For this paper laboratory experiments on the predation rate of the beneficial organism M. pygmaeus were conducted on different whitefly species under various conditions of both, temperature and light. The treatment was carried out on eggs and larval stages of the whitefly species T. vaporariorum and B. tabaci with a photoperiod of 9 and 16 h light and under temperatures of 11?C22°C. On infestation by T. vaporariorum a high effectiveness (68,4?C79,7%) of M. pygmaeus is shown under all tested light- and temperature conditions. On infestation of B. tabaci the effectiveness of M. pygmaeus was lower (8,5?C46,1%). For unknown reasons those two species did not reproduce in the rearing. The high predation rate of M. pygmaeus on eggs and larval stages of T. vaporariorum proved that M. pygmaeus can be effectively deployed at low (11?C13°C) and intermediate (18?C22°C) temperatures under both, short day- and long day conditions. Especially at low temperatures and short day conditions M. pygmaeus so far turns out to be a useful supplement or alternative.  相似文献

The efficacy of an oral formulation of ivermectin plus praziquantel in the reduction of nematode and cestode egg counts in horses was assessed in 273 horses under field conditions at 15 sites in North America (n = 6) and Europe (n = 9). Horses were confirmed by fecal examination to have natural infections of strongyles (100%) and tapeworms (76%). Replicates of four horses were formed at each site, and in each replicate three animals received ivermectin (0.2 mg/kg body weight) plus praziquantel (1 mg/kg body weight) oral paste and one animal remained untreated or received vehicle paste. Fecal samples were collected for fecal nematode and cestode egg counting before and 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, and 16 days after treatment. Horses treated with ivermectin plus praziquantel oral paste had significantly (P <.01) lower posttreatment strongylid and cestode egg counts (reductions of 98% or more) than controls. Combined site analyses revealed that 95% or 96% of the horses positive for cestode eggs before treatment that were treated with ivermectin plus praziquantel were negative for cestode eggs at each posttreatment fecal examination. No adverse reactions attributable to ivermectin plus praziquantel oral paste treatments were observed. The results of the studies demonstrated that ivermectin plus praziquantel paste was highly effective in reducing egg shedding by gastrointestinal nematodes and cestodes, and no adverse reactions were observed in horses treated under field conditions.  相似文献

Fifty seven (57) cloud water samples collected in 1 hr intervals during 9cloud events in 1997 at the summit of the Brocken (altitude 1142 m) in Central Germany were analyzed for their Pb concentrations and isotopic compositions. For comparison, filterdusts of such possible emitters as power plants, cement factories, waste incinerators, cars and others were also studied.Profiles over many hours reveal changes in composition correlatedwith changes in the origin of the air masses. Five main groups ofpossible sources of the Pb can be distinguished: most importantare (1) the European standard pollution ESP dominating the continent from Germany over France to Scandinavia and (2) industrial Pb (and soot from car exhausts) followed by (3) urban waste incinerators as well as (4) perhaps ores from Norilsk/Siberia, and, somewhat uncertain, (5) ores from PaleozoicEuropean deposits. Local and daily varying anthropogenic emissions of the sources (2–5) cause scatter of the points around the ESP correlation line. In soils all these variationsand individual signatures are levelled out so that specific sources of pollution cannot be identified anymore. Geogenic Pbfrom rocks and soils is the same as that from power plants and cement factories. It is one of the two nominal end components making up the mixture of the ESP. The less radiogenic end component of this mix which must contain Pb from very old deposits is somewhat elusive: none of the large Archaic or Proterozoic deposits could be identified. Most probably numerous sources contribute to this Pb. Pb from leaded gasoline seems to be absent or is hidden under the five components dominating the composition of the Pb in the European environment. This probably reflects phasing out of such gasoline in most European countries. The Pb in the clouds may contain a small component of old Proterozoic or even Archaic Pb, but it can also be modelled with Paleozoic Pb.  相似文献

The options for the treatment and control of sheep scab (psoroptic mange) have been increased in recent years through the introduction of the endectocides ivermectin, doramectin and moxidectin. Whilst therapeutic efficacy is good, the current injectable formulations offer limited protection against re-infestation with Psoroptes ovis. An intraruminal controlled-release formulation of ivermectin has been developed to provide therapeutic and prophylactic activity against a range of sensitive endo- and ecto-parasites of sheep for 100 days after administration. These ivermectin boluses are designed to release ivermectin at 20-40 microg/kg/day over 100 days and were developed for use in sheep of 20-90 kg bodyweight. Several controlled therapeutic and prophylactic trials against sheep scab have been conducted under a variety of protocols with such boluses in Europe and South America. The results of these studies indicate that the bolus provides 100% therapeutic efficacy against established P. ovis infestations and equivalent prophylactic efficacy against challenge infestations administered during the active life of the bolus.  相似文献

Seventy-five samples of six soil profiles from forests on different substrates plus one next to a motorway were analyzed for the variation of Pb concentration and isotopic composition with depth. A substantial fraction of the anthropogenic Pb (peak concentrations between 74 and 300 ppm) is still stored in the organic top soil, and seldom penetrates deeper than 20–30 cm. In (208Pb/206Pb) vs. (207Pb/206Pb)-diagrams the Pb in the uppermost layers of the profiles plots on an excellent correlation line (R = 0.99) indicating essentially a two-component mixing system. Values for the dust on Scottish plants, Norwegian and Swiss bogs as well as for aerosols collected over the North Atlantic (data from the literature) plot on the same correlation line showing that the Pb was deposited from a continent-wide mixing system with two apparent end members: The radiogenic one is similar to geogenic Pb and could consist of contributions from certain European ore deposits and from different soil components (e.g. silicates and Fe-oxides), power plants and cement factories. The less radiogenic component must contain or consist of Pb from Proterozoic or even Archaic ore deposits. However, the sources of this Pb remain somewhat elusive. In any case, this isotopic pattern is so consistent all over Europe that the correlation line may serve as a line of reference for quasi normal or European Standard Lead Pollution (ESLP). The gasoline derived Pb in the soils is swamped by Pb of other provenances.  相似文献

The tilapias are one of the most important fish groups in aquaculture.In spite of this, relatively few workers have attempted to establish the feedration that would suffice for their maintenance. The results that they present,moreover, do not match, which may be attributed as much to differences inanalytical procedure as to experimental protocol. In this work, previous dataonred tilapia by the late Dr was therefore reassessed in order to arrive at more reliableresults. The dataset was based on fish between 15 and 20g wet body mass givenvarious levels (0, 0.5, 1 & 3% of body mass) of three protein level diets(low: 13.1%, LP; medium, 28.7%, MP; high: 43.9%, HP) at two temperatures (20.9& 24.3 °C). The required feeding level to maintain drybodyweight was 2.52, 2.81 and 7.05 g kg–0.8 fishweight per day for the HP, MP and LP diets respectively at the highertemperature and 1.92, 2.32 and 5.04 g kg–0.8day–1 at the lower temperature. This gave rise to anaverage Q10 coefficient of 2.22. The required feed quantity tomaintain body protein or body energy, however, was in most cases higher, partlybecause the fish initially had high protein and lipid and low ash content.Comparisons with other maintenance estimates for tilapia were also made and thereasons for discrepancies between the results obtained here and elsewherediscussed.  相似文献

Excised shoots from apple trees and cell suspension cultures were used as model systems to study the metabolism of [3,5-14C]amitrole in Malus domestica Borkh. Significant differences in the metabolism of the compound applied were observed with excised shoots, cultured cells and whole apple trees. The major metabolite in excised shoots was aminotriazolylalanine which occurred both in the free form and as conjugates. The major metabolite from whole plants. triazolylalanine, was detected in shoots in minor amounts only. In cell suspension cultures, the type of metabolism strongly depended on the concentration of amitrole when initially applied. At 10 ?3 m or lower, mainly aminotriazolylalanine was formed. Depending on the concentration of the active ingredient, this metabolite predominantly occurred in free form or as glycosides. At concentrations above 5 × 10?4 M a new metabolite, 3,5-dihydroxytriazole, was detected which was the only metabolite found at 5 × 10?3M. Significant amounts of nonmetabolized amitrole remained in the medium.  相似文献

Cyclohexane-1,3-diones such as the herbicides cycloxydim, sethoxydim, alloxydim and clethodim are known to be specific inhibitors of the plastid-located acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase) in Poaceae, a key enzyme of de-novo fatty acid biosynthesis in higher plants. Using several new cyclohexane-1,3-dione derivatives and known herbicides, the relationships between chemical structure and enzyme inhibition have been studied. The basic cyclohexane-1,3-dione structure was modified at three different positions. These compounds were tested for inhibition of the de novo fatty-acid biosynthesis in test systems of etioplasts isolated from Avena sativa L. and Hordeum vulgare L. seedlings and also for inhibition of the isolated barley ACCase. The I50 values of these cyclohexane-1,3-diones were determined. The influence of the modification of alkyl chains (length and type of substituent) on the degree of ACCase-inhibition is discussed. Several new compounds were found that were about two orders more active than the known herbicides cycloxydim or sethoxydim in the etioplast and ACCase test systems but not necessarily on the level of whole plants.  相似文献
