Several strains of Garm-positive short rod (coccibacilli)-shaped bacteria were isolated from diseased cultured turbot, Scophthalmus maximus (L.), in the North of Spain with lesions and signs of Spain with lesions and signs of streptocecosis. The α-haemolytic streptoceoccus-like organisms from diseased turbot were identified by physiological, biochemical and 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis as Streptococcus parauberis. This is the first report of S. parauberis associated with fish disease.  相似文献

The bioencapsulation of live bacteria in the rotifer Brachionus plicatilis was determined under monoxenic conditions. The first objective was to evaluate the microbiota of the rotifer during intensive production and to obtain sterile rotifer cultures starting from adult females or amictic eggs using PVP-Iodine, Hydrogen peroxide or antibiotic mixtures. In the rotifers, the proportion of vibrios increased significantly during the mass production, displacing other unidentified marine bacteria. Rotifers, in the absence of culturable bacteria were obtained starting from amictic eggs and using Trimetroprim-sulfametoxasole (Bactrim Roche®) at 10 ml l–1. The effect of members of Vibrionaceae on the survival and growth rate of rotifers was determined under monoxenic conditions. The survival of rotifers was not affected in the presence of different isolates, while amictic egg formation occurred and the populations increased when the strains Vibrio proteolyticus C279 and Aeromonas media C226 were tested. All isolates were successfully incorporated in the rotifers, since there was no significant difference between the numbers of bioencapsulated cells of different strains of isolates. The results show that it is possible to replace the microbial community in rotifer cultures, started from disinfected amictic eggs, with selected bacterial strains. This could be used as a tool for future studies to reveal the role of specific bacteria on first larval stages of marine fish species.  相似文献

Twenty-two flocks of turkeys affected by enteric problems, with ages between 10 and 104 days and located in the Southern region of Brazil, were surveyed for turkey by PCR for turkey astrovirus type 2 (TAstV-2), turkey coronavirus (TCoV), hemorrhagic enteritis virus (HEV), rotavirus, reovirus, Salmonella spp., and Lawsonia intracellularis (Li) infections. Eleven profiles of pathogen combination were observed. The most frequently encountered pathogen combinations were TCoV-Li, followed by TCoV-TAstV-2-Li, TCoV-TastV-2. Only TCoV was detected as the sole pathogen in three flocks. Eight and 19 flocks of the 22 were positive for TAstV-2 and TCoV, respectively. Six were positive for Salmonella spp. and L. intracellularis was detected in 12 turkey flocks. Reovirus and HEV were not detected in this survey. These results throw new light on the multiple etiology of enteritis in turkeys. The implications of these findings and their correlation with the clinical signs are comprehensively discussed, illustrating the complexity of the enteric diseases.  相似文献

Gastrointestinal nematode infections are one of the main health/economic issues in sheep industries, worldwide. Indicator traits for resistance such as faecal egg count (FEC) are commonly used in genomic studies; however, published results are inconsistent among breeds. Meta (or joint)‐analysis is a tool for aggregating information from multiple independent studies. The aim of this study was to identify loci underlying variation in FEC, as an indicator of nematode resistance, in a joint analysis using data from three populations (Scottish Blackface, Sarda × Lacaune and Martinik Black‐Belly × Romane), genotyped with the ovine 50k SNP chip. The trait analysed was the average animal effect for Strongyles and Nematodirus FEC data. Analyses were performed with regional heritability mapping (RHM), fitting polygenic effects with either the whole genomic relationship matrix or matrices excluding the chromosome being interrogated. Across‐population genomic covariances were set to zero. After quality control, 4123 animals and 38 991 SNPs were available for the analysis. RHM identified genome‐wide significant regions on OAR4, 12, 14, 19 and 20, with the latter being the most significant. The OAR20 region is close to the major histocompatibility complex, which has often been proposed as a functional candidate for nematode resistance. This region was significant only in the Sarda × Lacaune population. Several other regions, on OAR1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 19, 20 and 24, were significant at the suggestive level.  相似文献

Ammonium toxicity of short‐duration alkaline events and their variability, as related to 1–30 day‐old postlarvae whiteleg shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei (Boone), was assessed by determining medium lethal concentration (LC50) of total ammonium‐nitroen (TAN) and NH3‐N to 4‐h exposures. Exploratory concentrations of TAN were tested at 30°C and pH 9, until mortality from 5% to 95% occurred between 0.9 and 18 mg N L?1. To determine the daily variation of ammonium toxicity, 64 lots of 20 postlarvae were exposed to eight different ammonium concentrations (0, 0.9, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 mg N L?1), in two different environmental scenarios: α (pH 8, 26°C) and β (pH 9, 30°C). In environmental scenario α, ammonium concentrations up to 18 mg L?1 pose no short‐term mortality risks for ages 1–30 days. In scenario β, mortality was recorded at all ages. The values of LC50 (4 h) for different postlarvae ages have daily variability, ranging from a minimum of 2.54 to a maximum of 6.02 mg L?1 of TAN (0.76 and 1.81 mg N L?1 of NH3‐N), for PL3 and PL19, respectively, with a logarithmic linear tendency to increase with age. Postlarvae mortality at 4 h and 3.0 mg N L?1 TAN exposure was lower and less variable in ages greater than 19 days old.  相似文献

A collection of 67 accessions of Pisum species originating from different countries was screened in a glasshouse test for resistance to Erysiphe pisi. All Pisum fulvum accessions were completely resistant. Incomplete resistance was identified in some accessions of P. sativum subsp. sativum var. arvense and P. sativum subsp. elatius and abyssinicum. Microscopy revealed several distinct cellular mechanisms governing resistance. In P. fulvum, it was mainly due to a high frequency of cell death that occurred both as a rapid response to attempted infection and a delayed response that followed colony establishment. Cell death following colony establishment was also key to the incomplete resistance in some accessions of P. sativum subsp. sativum var. arvense. In addition, impaired spore germination, and to a lesser extent appressorium formation, contributed to pre‐penetration resistance in some accessions. In some cases, resistance also retarded colony growth, possibly through effects on haustorial development or function in cells that survived the attack. Thus, these wild pea accessions offer diverse resistances that could be introduced to cultivated peas to increase the efficacy of powdery mildew resistance.  相似文献

Summary A collection of populations and cultivars of Cicer arietinum L. were studied to obtain phenotypic, genotypic and environmental correlation coefficients, and broad sense heritabilities. Principal Component Analyses were performed on phenotypic, genotypic and environmental matrices. Data and phase obtained on a pure morphological basis, as well as on quantitative genetic studies and geographical distribution support the existence of two complexes within the cultivated chickpea, macrosperma and microsperma. These taxa differ in a cluster of complex characters associated with seed. pod and leaf morphology, and they differ in distribution. There is no taxonomic basis to treat these as subspecies. We propose to include C. reticulatum Lad., the wild chickpea, as a subspecies of C. arietinum, with the cultivated kinds recognized as subspecies arietinum. Race macrosperma was derived from race microsperma through selection during relatively recent times of the evolutionary history of the chickpea.  相似文献

Increased tourist activity and recreational use of wilderness and other protected areas has endangered zones of high environmental value. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of trampling intensity (low, high use trails and untrampled trails) and distance from the trails (on the trails, at 10 and 20 m from the trails) on the vegetation, chemical, physical and microbiological properties of a soil in Mediterranean mountain areas. Trail type and distance from the trail significantly influenced several parameters. High use trails showed lower values of plant cover and diversity of vegetation species, as well as soil respiration and some enzyme activities (phosphatase, β‐glucosidase and dehydrogenase) than low use trails. In addition, the effects of trampling spatially extended further from these high use trails than from low use trails. Statistical analysis showed that some microbiological (basal respiration, dehydrogenase activity and β‐glucosidase activity) and vegetal parameters (plant cover and diversity) may be established as a set of indicators for the evaluation of soil quality on these areas subjected to human trampling. We concluded that trampling significantly impacts on soil microbial processes and vegetal communities, and visitor should be restricted from entering ecologically sensitive areas due to the effects of trampling. Birds from the Almuñecar ornithological garden (Granada, Spain) were surveyed from June 2006 to May 2007 to establish programmes to prevent, control, and treat intestinal and haematic parasites. A total of 984 faecal samples and 41 samples of blood were collected from Psittacidae, Cacatuidae, Phasianidae, and Anatidae. One or more intestinal parasites were identified in 51.6% of the samples. Blood parasites were found in 26.8% of the birds examined. The most frequent pathogenic endoparasites were coccidians, such as Cyclospora sp. (4.5%), Eimeria sp. (4.1%) and Isospora sp. (2%) and helminths such as Capillaria sp. (10. 1%), Ascaridia sp. (4.9%) and Heterakis gallinarum (4.9%). All the parasites varied with season but the most were found year round. Multiple parasitic infections by intestinal parasites were common, with 196 of 984 faecal samples having 2–5 intestinal parasites. The most frequent cases of multiple parasitism were Blastocystis plus Entamoeba sp. and Blastocystis plus Cyclospora sp. The haematic protozoa detected were Haemoproteus sp. (17%) and Plasmodium sp. (7.3%). Multiple parasitism by Haemoproteus sp. and Plasmodium sp. was detected in 1 sample of Gallus gallus. After each sampling, some of the affected animals were treated according to our results, and the corresponding programmes of prevention and control were designed.  相似文献

This study proposes a procedure to estimate genetic parameters in populations where a selection process results in the loss of an unknown number of observations. The method was developed under the Bayesian inference scope following the missing data theory approach. Its implementation requires slight modifications to the Gibbs sampler algorithm.
