Experiments on host-stage preference, influence of temperature on parasitization, and the feeding niche ofEretmocerus longipes Compere (Hym., Aphelinidae) parasitizingAleurotuberculatus takabashi David et Subramaniam (Hom., Aleyrodidae) on jasmine were conducted both in the laboratory of Institute of Plant Protection, Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences and in the field in the Fuzhou region, Fujian Province, PR China. The results showed that the most preferred host-stage ofE. longipes was the 3rd instar ofA. takahashi. The parasitization rate ofE. longipes was significantly affected by temperature, valuing 4.8% at 18 °C, 27.3% at 23 °C, and 55.1% at 33 °C, respectively. The whitefly immature stages and the parasitoid vertically selected all the layers of jasmine plant as their feeding niches, but the whitefly nymph preferred to gather on the top layer, which was considered as its suitable feeding niche, while the parasitoid selected the middle layer as its feeding niche. To measure the ability to utilize spatial resources, the feeding niche breadth was introduced to demonstrate that the parasitoid had the less wide feeding niche breadth among the all stages tested on jasmine, which revealed that the spatial activity for the parasitoid was smaller than that for any stage of the whitefly. The cluster analysis showed that the feeding niche of the parasitoid was more closely related to the 3rd instar than to any other stage of the whitefly. It was suggested that relation between the whitefly and its parasitoid was not only depending on the host-stage preference but also on the feeding niche similarity.  相似文献

The leafhoppers [Asymmetrasca decedens (Paoli) and Empoasca decipiens Paoli] have only recently become significant pests of cotton in Turkey. Action threshold level (ATL) of this pest complex is uncertain. The effect of leafhoppers on fruit set and development and yields of glabrous varieties, Caroline Queen, Çukurova 1518 and SG 125 was compared under sprayed (at the ATL of ten leafhoppers per leaf) or unsprayed conditions in 2002–2003. Comparisons of sprayed and unsprayed cotton showed that leafhoppers significantly reduced numbers of fruit and yield. Total losses of the fruiting parts (square plus boll) were similar, ranging from 35 to 55% as well as cotton losses varied from 35 to 50%. Numbers of sucking insects (cotton aphid, whitefly and thrips) and also lepidopterian pests (pink bollworm and bollworm) were very low in both years, and they did not affect cotton development. The current regional ATL for the cotton leafhoppers appears to be too high, and it appears that even five leafhoppers per leaf may be sufficient to significantly reduce yields. It is concluded that ATL of the cotton leafhoppers needs to be re-evaluated in cotton fields in Turkey and also other geographic regions which share similar ecological conditions and same leafhopper species.  相似文献

Passalora blight of anise, caused byPassalora malkoffii (Bubák) U. Braun, is an important disease of anise in Turkey. The disease affects all the aboveground parts of plants including flower clusters. Infected seeds have dark, linear stromata. Detection of the pathogen on seeds was studied by the blotter method, agar method, washing test and sowing infected seeds in disease-free soils. The pathogen was recovered only by the washing test and to a limited extent by water agar + seed decoction agar. Sixteen of 24 seed samples from diseased regions were found to be infected. The pathogen was not detected by any other methods. However, several indigenous fungi,e.g. Alternaria alternata, were isolated, which may have prevented the growth of the pathogen. Seed washings of infected seed samples had typical spores of the pathogen up to 106 conidia per gram of seed. Transmission of the pathogen was shown by sowing infected seeds in disease-free field soils in two locations where anise had not been grown previously. Azoxystrobin, chlorothalonil + carbendazim and flutriafol seed treatments at 0.04 g a.i. kg−1 seed, 1.0 g + 4.5 g a.i. kg−1 seed and 0.015 g a.i. kg−1 seed reduced the disease by 92.5%, 89.6% and 36.2% in 2002 and by 78.9%, 75.8% and 41.2% in 2003, respectively. Three foliar applications of axosystrobin, chlorothalonil + carbendazim and flutriafol at the rates of 187.5 g a.i. ha−1, 1500 g + 6750 g a.i. ha−1 and 31.3 g a.i ha−1 reduced disease incidence by 92.5%, 86.0% and 96.8% in 2002 and by 97.5%, 90.8% and 97.0% in 2003, respectively. http://www.phytoparasitica.org posting May 17, 2005.  相似文献

Leaf beetle occurrence and abundance on certain shrubs and bushes were surveyed during 2002–2003 in several natural habitats of Isparta. The 34 leaf-beetle species collected are listed and classified according to their relative percentage of the total caught and to their associated host plants. In all habitats sampled, leaf beetles showed a preference for plants from the genera Quercus and Crataegus. Some abundant species causing serious damage to their food plants are discussed.  相似文献

1. An experiment was conducted to determine the possibility of stimulating sexual development at an early age in male and female broiler chickens by administration of apilarnil, a natural bee product, in the pre-pubertal period.

2. From 28 to 55 d of age, birds were given apilarnil orally. The effects of low (2.5 g/bird) and high (7.5 g/bird) doses of apilarnil on growth performance, testicular weight, secondary sexual characteristics, blood lipids, testosterone and fearful behaviour were evaluated.

3. Apilarnil administration did not cause a positive effect on growth performance of male and female broilers suggesting that apilarnil did not have an anabolic effect.

4. Apilarnil administration suppressed blood glucose and cholesterol.

5. Birds receiving apilarnil remained immobile for a shorter period in a tonic imobiliy test and showed less home-cage avoidance responses suggesting a lower level of fearfulness.

6. Increases in testicular weight, testosterone concentration and comb growth in males receiving apilarnil implied that it stimulates the sexual maturation at an early age. However, a similar stimulation of secondary sexual characteristics was not observed in females.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions using a sandy clay loam treated with garbage and mushroom composts, cattle and chicken manures, or municipal sludge at rates of 0, 30, or 60 ton ha?1. The organic materials were applied to the pots and incubated for 15 d. The soil samples were watered at field capacity. In this experiment, wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) was used as a test crop. At the end of the experiment, it was found that treating sandy clay loam with the organic materials increased plant total and grain yields, protein content, 1000-kernel weight, number of grains in spike, and accumulation of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), and manganese (Mn) by wheat compared with the control treatment, depending on the organic material applications. Thus, the increases were found to be statistically significant (P ≤ 0.05). Among the types of organic materials, the sewage sludge was the most effective material in increasing N, P, K, Fe, Zn, and Mn content of leaf, grain, and stem samples of the wheat plant. It was followed by mushroom compost and cattle manure. Based on the results, sewage sludge and garbage compost are suggested for use as an amendment for the soil studied. Comparing the beneficial effects of the organic materials applied for improving plant growth and nutrient accumulation, the materials can be arranged in the following descending order: municipal sludge > chicken manure > cattle manure > garbage compost > mushroom compost. It is suggested that recycling of organic materials for agricultural usage as an organic-matter resource is an alternative, organic fertilization option in Turkey.  相似文献

Porphyrins are pigments produced in most animal cells during the synthesis of heme, but their importance for external coloration is unclear. Owls (Order Strigiformes) are among the few animals that accumulate porphyrins in the integument, where it could serve as a means of signaling. Here we hypothesized that the porphyrin content of feathers may depend on body condition and breeding site quality in Eurasian eagle owl (Bubo bubo) fledglings and, thus, constitute amplifiers of the quality of the area where they are born. Using high‐performance liquid chromatography, we found 2 porphyrins (protoporphyrin IX and coproporphyrin III) in the body feathers of 19 eagle owl fledglings from 7 breeding territories. Coproporphyrin III, but not protoporphyrin IX feather concentration, was positively associated with the body mass of fledglings and with the quality of the breeding sites where they were reared with respect to food quality and availability. As coproporphyrin III is produced under oxidative stress, we suggest that good breeding sites may lead to fledglings in good condition. This, in turn, may make fledglings induce a certain level of free radical and coproporphyrin III production to signal to conspecifics their site‐mediated capacity to cope with oxidative stress. This is the first time that porphyrin content in the integument has been found to be related to individual quality, opening a new scenario for studying evolution of animal coloration.  相似文献

The present study dealt with the functional responses of the parasitoid,Eretmocerus longipes Compere (Hym., Aphelinidae) to the densities of the whitefly,Aleurotuberculatus takahashi David et Subramaniam (Hom., Aleurodidae) at different temperatures under the laboratory conditions. The results showed that when the initial densities ofA. takahashi-3rd instar were raised from 10 to 320 ind./leaf, the numbers of parasitized nymphs increased as well, ranging from 7.0 to 23.1 at 20°C, 9.8 to 42.9 at 25°C, 6.7 to 39.9 at 30°C, and 1.8 to 8.3 ind./leaf at 35°C, respectively. The Holling Disk Equation was introduced to build up the models of functional responses. The response curves remained type II, although the numbers of parasitized nymphs were significantly different under different temperatures. The suitable initial densities of the host whitefly for parasitization were about 80 individuals per leaf. A negative relation was observed between the initial densities of the whitefly and the parasitization rates by the parasitoid. An increase in the initial densities ofA. takahashi-3rd instars ranging from 10 to 320 ind./leaf resulted in a decrease in the parasitization rate byE. longipes ranging from 70.0% to 7.2% at 20°C, 98.0% to 13.4% at 25°C, 67.0% to 12.5% at 30°C and 18.0% to 2.6% at 35°C with a value of 0.2877 was significantly smaller than that at 20°C with a vlaue of 1.3354, that at 25°C with a value of 1.6465 and that at 30°C with a value of 1.1199, respectively (p<0.01). The handling time (Th) forE. longipes was 0.1521 at 35°C, significantly longer than 0.0510 at 20°C, 0.0289 at 25°C and 0.0320 at 30°C, respectively (p<0.01). The maximum loading number (K) of the parasitized nymphs with a value of 34.5 ind./leaf at 25°C was similar to that with a value of 31.2 ind./leaf at 30°C, about 1.8 times as high as that with a value of 19.6 ind./leaf at 20°C and 4 times more than that with a value of 6.6 ind./leaf at 35°C. It was suggested that temperature affected the functional response by balancing searching rate and handling time. The optimal temperature range for the functional responses ofE. longipes to the densities ofA. takahashi-3rd instar was 25° to 30°C.  相似文献
