The effects of some substituted urea herbicides, fenuron, monuron, diuron and linuron, on soil urease were investigated. All herbicides are soil urease mixed inhibitors and the same inhibition mechanism is presumed. A kinetic relationship, which takes into account herbicide adsorption, is developed in order to calculate the inhibition constants of soil urease from adsorption constants. A linear relationship between Hammett sigma values and log Ki for fenuron, monuron and diuron is obtained, from which the formation of a complex between herbicides and enzyme is proposed By comparing kinetic constants for soil urease with those obtained for jack bean, in the presence of the same herbicides, a possible effect of the soil matrix on the enzyme-herbicide complex is also suggested.  相似文献

Groups of Swiss Webster outbred mice were each inoculated with one of four bartonella strains originally isolated from Rattus spp. at doses ranging from 101 to 107 bacteria per mouse. One strain, Rn1691yn (Bartonella coopersplainensis-like), infected mice and produced bacteremias at levels up to 105 bacteria/ml of blood and from 3 to 8 weeks duration. A dose dependent response was also observed with differing proportions of mice bacteremic following inoculation at different doses. In addition weeks-to-months long lags in bacteremia manifestation occurred following lower dose exposures. The possibility of bacterial transmission from bacteremic mice to uninfected cagemates was assessed and no naïve mice became infected from contacts with infected mice. Finally, a subset of bacteremic mice inoculated with high doses of Rn1691yn were examined histopathologically and multifocal, granulomatous lesions were detected in both liver and kidneys. The host specificity and infectivity of the strains is discussed in relation to their potential for zoonotic transmission to incidental hosts.  相似文献

The effect of three herbicides (Linuron, Diuron, and Atrazine) and three vinyl phosphate insecticides (Crotoxyphos, Phosphamidon, and Dichlorvos) on phytase was examined. All the insecticides and Atrazine were competitive inhibitors, with Linuron and Diuron being mixed inhibitors. An isotopic model (NISOTOP) has been developed to investigate the effect of the addition to soil of xenobiotics on urea hydrolysis, N mineralization and immobilization, nitrification and plant uptake of nitrogen in a soil-plant system, after addition of 15N enriched compounds. Therationale of the model follows from the errors in %15N abundance (15N D) and N concentration (CN) determinations which cause high variability coefficients in the calculation of the amount of nitrogen present in the different compounds derived from the added 15N enriched urea. The extent of these errors, besides depending on CN and 15N D errors, will also depend on natural 15N and 15N of the added compound, and therefore on the experimental conditions. The model is described by 18 first-order differential equations and is numerically solved by Euler's method with a time increment of 0.01 day. As an illustration, the model is applied to the effect of phenanthrene, chrysene and benzo(a)pyrene to a soil-plant system, following the addition of 15N-urea. These compounds have been chosen as examples of molecules having 3, 4 and 5 fused aromatic rings and are hereafter collectively referred to as PAHs. PAHs at the rate of 2 mg kg-1 soiland 15N-urea at the rate of 166.7 mg N kg-1 soil were added to wheat pots. At harvesting (after 14 days from plantation) the dry matter yield, the total N content and the N concentration of the wheat seedlings were not statistically affected by addition of the PAHs (P = 0.05). The efficiency of N uptake, that is the percentage of fertilizer taken up by the plants at harvesting in the absence of PAHs was 47.3%, while it was 11.7, 15.2 and 14.8% in the presence of phenanthrene, chrysene and benzo(a)pyrene,respectively. The computation of the first-order rate constants of the N transformations showed that N mineralization, nitrification and N-uptake were affected by the addition of phenanthrene, chrysene and benzo(a)pyrene, whilst benzo(a)pyrene inhibited urea hydrolysis more than phenanthrene and chrysene.  相似文献

Erwinia chrysanthemi 3937 is a soft-rotting plant pathogen in Enterobacteriaceae. It attacks a wide range of plant host species. Previously, we identified dozens of E. chrysanthemi 3937 genes induced during plant infection by microarray differential display. Here, we have mutated plant-upregulated and putatively plant-upregulated genes in E. chrysanthemi 3937 using a transposon insertion method. Of 57 mutants produced, 8 were significantly reduced in maceration in African violet leaves. These 8 E. chrysanthemi genes are similar to Escherichia coli purU (formyltetrahydrofolate deformylase; ASAP20623) and wcaJ (undecaprenylphosphate glucosephosphotransferase; ASAP18556), Bacillus subtilis dltA (d-alanine-d-alanyl carrier protein ligase; ASAP19406), Pseudomonas syringae PSPTO2912 (ABC transporter, periplasmic glutamine-binding protein; ASAP15639), Pseudomonas aeruginosa pheC (cyclohexadienyl dehydratase; ASAP19773), P. syringae syrE (peptide synthase; ASAP19989), Vibrio vulnificus VV12303 (unknown protein; ASAP18555), and Yersinia pestis speD (S-adenosylmethionine decarboxylase; ASAP20536). In some of the genes, possible roles in virulence could be postulated based on the functions of their homologues. This work demonstrated that a low proportion of pathogenicity-related genes were among the plant-upregulated genes of E. chrysanthemi 3937. This study and further dissection of these putative virulence genes should lead to new insights into infection mechanisms in pathogens.  相似文献

Interannual variability in the abundances of blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) in populations along the U.S. east coast is well documented, but the mechanisms driving these fluctuations remain poorly understood. Using principal component analysis and dynamic factor analysis we quantified the patterns in variability and the degree of synchrony among blue crab populations along the U.S. east coast to gain insight into the mechanisms regulating the dynamics of these populations. We determined that a latitudinal pattern in the variability in abundance among the states existed and that a combination of the Gulf Stream Index, southern winter temperature, and larval mixing in the coastal ocean may be important drivers for the observed fluctuations of blue crab. The blue crab population in the Chesapeake Bay appeared to be an anomaly in that its abundance did not match the latitudinal trend seen in the other states. Understanding the dynamics of blue crab throughout its range may help managers determine which population responses reflect local dynamics and which may reflect shared, regional responses.  相似文献

An unusual distribution of particle sizes has been observed following the formation of molybdenum particles by argon ion sputtering. Many of the molybdenum particles produced by sputtering at the threshold pressure for particle formation in the vapor appear to be single crystalline cubes. There are two prominent peaks in the edge length distribution of the cubes, one centered at 4.8 nanometers with a halfwidth of approximately 1.3 nanometers and the other at 17.5 nanometers. The peak for the larger cubes is approximately square and has a total width of 7.0 nanometers. Evidence is presented that the larger cubes are formed by a 3 by 3 by 3 self-arrangement of the smaller cubes, which contain approximately 7000 atoms. Self-arrangement in inorganic structures is normally only observed when the building blocks are atoms, molecules, or clusters of less than 100 atoms.  相似文献
